“You’re acting like this because of this business? What did Addison tell you?”. Joseph looked at her with a complicated expression.

When he couldn’t find Hayden the night before, his first thought was that maybe she had known something. After all, he knew that the CEO of SG Group was Addison only after she had checked into the hotel for several days.

“She didn’t tell me anything.” Hayden snickered, “She doesn’t care much about me either. After all, she’s your childhood friend, your lawful fiancée and your sweetheart. What does she have to say to me? All she has to do is stand by your side. You are perfectly compatible with each other and that’s a well-matched marriage?”

“Hayden.” Joseph interrupted her and said in disgust, “Do you know what you’re talking about?”

“I don’t.” Hayden turned her face away, unwilling to look at him.

“If you want to find out about the Addison thing, let’s go to your office, I can tell you. But I really don’t like a woman who deliberately makes trouble out of nothing. you shouldn’t be this kind of person.”

Hearing this, Hayden clenched his fists. The accumulation of thoughts she had been doing all night collapsed the moment she saw Joseph. The loss of her rational senses turned her into a resentful woman who deliberately made trouble out of nothing.

Although she herself also agreed with this kind of description, hearing such words from Joseph, she still felt pain as if a knife was cutting her.

She hurried into the elevator.

“Forget it, I’m not in the mood for this right now. Let’s talk about it later.”

She opted to escape as she needed some time to digest last night’s affair.

Benjamin’s packing was done. As she listened to him talk about general trip planning, Hayden was distracted and didn’t hear most of his sentences.

“You don’t look well today, are you sick?”. Benjamin frowned as he looked at her. His eyes were full of concern.

“I’m fine.” Hayden regained his composure and changed the subject, “By the way, what time does the flight you just mentioned leave? I’ll walk you to the airport.”

“No need, it’s at three in the afternoon, you won’t be able to make it.”

“Yes, I can.” Hayden smiled faintly, “I just need to take temporary leave.”

After leaving Benjamin’s room, Hayden went straight to his office to work. When he passed by the office, most of the employees who normally worked in the morning had arrived. Except for the greetings, Hayden still felt that they were looking at her in a strange way.

After opening the door to her own office, only then did she understand what the strangeness was about.

Surprisingly, Joseph did not leave, he even came to her office.

“Why are you here?” Hayden’s hand gripped the doorknob and he looked stunned.

“I need to talk to you about last night’s business. If you want everyone to hear you, I don’t mind if you keep the door open for the duration of the conversation.”

Hayden was slightly dumbfounded. Unconsciously he glanced toward the back. The office was so quiet you could clearly hear a pin drop. Everyone was bending their ears and seemed to be trying to eavesdrop.

He frowned and closed the door.

“What do you mean?”

“Regarding the matter of Addison being the CEO of SG Group, I didn’t know that at all before yesterday.” Joseph went straight to the point where he explained for the first time that he knew nothing about the relationship between Addison and SG Group.

Hayden’s expression lightened slightly but he said nothing.

Joseph continued speaking.

“As to the point that you think I haven’t told you about the past, there’s nothing I can’t tell you if you wish to know. Addison and I are normal friends, it’s like having a sibling relationship. When my father was alive, I was very fond of him. Originally there was a marriage contract, but since my father died, coupled with her marrying someone else, the marriage contract was invalidated.”

The situation described by him was not much different from what Kevin said, but Hayden didn’t feel good to hear this.

“I don’t like to be misunderstood so I must explain this matter clearly before I leave.”

“Leave?” Hayden raised his head, “Where are you going?”.

“I’m going to P-Town to discuss a real estate development project. I’ll have to stay there quite a while.”

Joseph’s deep, gravelly voice echoed throughout the office.

It seemed that from the moment he said he was leaving, the jealousy Hayden originally held in his heart and a bit of resentment seemingly disappeared. This unexpected parting made him lose his patience.

“Do you have anything else to ask me?” She asked him.

Hayden looked at him and shook his head after hesitating for a long moment.

He had known everything he needed to know. The only thing he couldn’t get over was that he was still worried about the matter. Whether or not Joseph would be reunited with Addison was not something she could control. Also, whether or not she could overcome her emotional conflict was not something she could decide.

“My flight leaves at two this afternoon.” Joseph took two steps closer to her with a complicated expression, “I hope that when I get back, I can talk to you clearly about all the things in the past. You can ask me all you want about mine, but I want to know about yours too.”

He had done some research on Hayden when they first met, but the information was inconsistent, especially when she was overseas. Apparently, it had been modified by someone and Magnus was still unable to find out the real information despite trying very hard.

Compared to her affair in the past, which she had no intention of hiding from Hayden, Hayden seemed to hide more secrets when she was abroad those years.

After Joseph left, Hayden sat in the office chair alone thinking.

These few months were like a dream. Everything happened quickly and time passed quickly as well. His original plan fell apart. As time went on, she became increasingly unsure about whether to tell Joseph that she was the woman who had used him as a surrogate.

Their time together was too short. Just when she thought Joseph loved her passionately, Addison appeared from and told her that she, Hayden, was not the only woman in the world who could be treated gently by Joseph. This easily broke her confidence.

The ringing of her phone interrupted her thoughts.

“Hayden, I got some news out of Kevin.” It was rare for Alayna’s voice on the phone to sound so serious, “Mentally prepare yourself for it.”

“Say it.”

“It seems Addison’s relatives have been in touch with Harrison these past two days, planning to talk about the marriage again.”

“Really? This basically doesn’t qualify as news.” Hayden heaved a sigh of relief and didn’t take this matter seriously.

In terms of marriage, Harrison couldn’t decide for Joseph. As for who he wanted to marry or even whether or not he would marry at all, it would all be up to him to decide.

“You are truly magnanimous as you don’t seem to be bothered by anything!” Alayna shouted on the other end of the phone.

“If you really consider it for yourself, you’d better go home and ask your father for some dowry. It’s better than taking nothing. I’ve heard from Kevin that Addison’s family has gone all out this time. The stocks, stores and properties are ready. They plan to do everything they can to get their daughter into the Beckham Family.”

“Isn’t this selling the daughter, but losing money on the opposite?”. Hayden laughed, “You think I’m stupid.”

“How can you still laugh?”. Alayna’s tone sounded like she was surprised. She corrected, “You have to know that her action is called inversion.”

“Didn’t you advise me to end it last night, saying that a man like that is not worth paying and keeping?”

“But regarding this matter, he hasn’t made any big mistake. It’s just that he doesn’t tell you things in advance, but even if he tells you beforehand, it’s also in vain. He’ll just make you feel bad and nervous in advance, won’t he?”.
