âYouâre acting like this because of this business? What did Addison tell you?â. Joseph looked at her with a complicated expression.
When he couldnât find Hayden the night before, his first thought was that maybe she had known something. After all, he knew that the CEO of SG Group was Addison only after she had checked into the hotel for several days.
âShe didnât tell me anything.â Hayden snickered, âShe doesnât care much about me either. After all, sheâs your childhood friend, your lawful fiancée and your sweetheart. What does she have to say to me? All she has to do is stand by your side. You are perfectly compatible with each other and thatâs a well-matched marriage?â
âHayden.â Joseph interrupted her and said in disgust, âDo you know what youâre talking about?â
âI donât.â Hayden turned her face away, unwilling to look at him.
âIf you want to find out about the Addison thing, letâs go to your office, I can tell you. But I really donât like a woman who deliberately makes trouble out of nothing. you shouldnât be this kind of person.â
Hearing this, Hayden clenched his fists. The accumulation of thoughts she had been doing all night collapsed the moment she saw Joseph. The loss of her rational senses turned her into a resentful woman who deliberately made trouble out of nothing.
Although she herself also agreed with this kind of description, hearing such words from Joseph, she still felt pain as if a knife was cutting her.
She hurried into the elevator.
âForget it, Iâm not in the mood for this right now. Letâs talk about it later.â
She opted to escape as she needed some time to digest last nightâs affair.
Benjaminâs packing was done. As she listened to him talk about general trip planning, Hayden was distracted and didnât hear most of his sentences.
âYou donât look well today, are you sick?â. Benjamin frowned as he looked at her. His eyes were full of concern.
âIâm fine.â Hayden regained his composure and changed the subject, âBy the way, what time does the flight you just mentioned leave? Iâll walk you to the airport.â
âNo need, itâs at three in the afternoon, you wonât be able to make it.â
âYes, I can.â Hayden smiled faintly, âI just need to take temporary leave.â
After leaving Benjaminâs room, Hayden went straight to his office to work. When he passed by the office, most of the employees who normally worked in the morning had arrived. Except for the greetings, Hayden still felt that they were looking at her in a strange way.
After opening the door to her own office, only then did she understand what the strangeness was about.
Surprisingly, Joseph did not leave, he even came to her office.
âWhy are you here?â Haydenâs hand gripped the doorknob and he looked stunned.
âI need to talk to you about last nightâs business. If you want everyone to hear you, I donât mind if you keep the door open for the duration of the conversation.â
Hayden was slightly dumbfounded. Unconsciously he glanced toward the back. The office was so quiet you could clearly hear a pin drop. Everyone was bending their ears and seemed to be trying to eavesdrop.
He frowned and closed the door.
âWhat do you mean?â
âRegarding the matter of Addison being the CEO of SG Group, I didnât know that at all before yesterday.â Joseph went straight to the point where he explained for the first time that he knew nothing about the relationship between Addison and SG Group.
Haydenâs expression lightened slightly but he said nothing.
Joseph continued speaking.
âAs to the point that you think I havenât told you about the past, thereâs nothing I canât tell you if you wish to know. Addison and I are normal friends, itâs like having a sibling relationship. When my father was alive, I was very fond of him. Originally there was a marriage contract, but since my father died, coupled with her marrying someone else, the marriage contract was invalidated.â
The situation described by him was not much different from what Kevin said, but Hayden didnât feel good to hear this.
âI donât like to be misunderstood so I must explain this matter clearly before I leave.â
âLeave?â Hayden raised his head, âWhere are you going?â.
âIâm going to P-Town to discuss a real estate development project. Iâll have to stay there quite a while.â
Josephâs deep, gravelly voice echoed throughout the office.
It seemed that from the moment he said he was leaving, the jealousy Hayden originally held in his heart and a bit of resentment seemingly disappeared. This unexpected parting made him lose his patience.
âDo you have anything else to ask me?â She asked him.
Hayden looked at him and shook his head after hesitating for a long moment.
He had known everything he needed to know. The only thing he couldnât get over was that he was still worried about the matter. Whether or not Joseph would be reunited with Addison was not something she could control. Also, whether or not she could overcome her emotional conflict was not something she could decide.
âMy flight leaves at two this afternoon.â Joseph took two steps closer to her with a complicated expression, âI hope that when I get back, I can talk to you clearly about all the things in the past. You can ask me all you want about mine, but I want to know about yours too.â
He had done some research on Hayden when they first met, but the information was inconsistent, especially when she was overseas. Apparently, it had been modified by someone and Magnus was still unable to find out the real information despite trying very hard.
Compared to her affair in the past, which she had no intention of hiding from Hayden, Hayden seemed to hide more secrets when she was abroad those years.
After Joseph left, Hayden sat in the office chair alone thinking.
These few months were like a dream. Everything happened quickly and time passed quickly as well. His original plan fell apart. As time went on, she became increasingly unsure about whether to tell Joseph that she was the woman who had used him as a surrogate.
Their time together was too short. Just when she thought Joseph loved her passionately, Addison appeared from and told her that she, Hayden, was not the only woman in the world who could be treated gently by Joseph. This easily broke her confidence.
The ringing of her phone interrupted her thoughts.
âHayden, I got some news out of Kevin.â It was rare for Alaynaâs voice on the phone to sound so serious, âMentally prepare yourself for it.â
âSay it.â
âIt seems Addisonâs relatives have been in touch with Harrison these past two days, planning to talk about the marriage again.â
âReally? This basically doesnât qualify as news.â Hayden heaved a sigh of relief and didnât take this matter seriously.
In terms of marriage, Harrison couldnât decide for Joseph. As for who he wanted to marry or even whether or not he would marry at all, it would all be up to him to decide.
âYou are truly magnanimous as you donât seem to be bothered by anything!â Alayna shouted on the other end of the phone.
âIf you really consider it for yourself, youâd better go home and ask your father for some dowry. Itâs better than taking nothing. Iâve heard from Kevin that Addisonâs family has gone all out this time. The stocks, stores and properties are ready. They plan to do everything they can to get their daughter into the Beckham Family.â
âIsnât this selling the daughter, but losing money on the opposite?â. Hayden laughed, âYou think Iâm stupid.â
âHow can you still laugh?â. Alaynaâs tone sounded like she was surprised. She corrected, âYou have to know that her action is called inversion.â
âDidnât you advise me to end it last night, saying that a man like that is not worth paying and keeping?â
âBut regarding this matter, he hasnât made any big mistake. Itâs just that he doesnât tell you things in advance, but even if he tells you beforehand, itâs also in vain. Heâll just make you feel bad and nervous in advance, wonât he?â.
