The fact that Noah was unable to speak was unfortunate for Harrison. After all, the accident had happened in his home, when Joseph had let him take care of Noah. He felt guilty for many years about this incident and always thought that he had not taken good care of Noah at that time.
He smelled a rat in the accident back then when it was mentioned by Hayden.
After dinner, Mark escorted Hayden and the others to the outside door of the mansion and said through the car door, âDonât worry, Miss Downey. Although they have dismissed the nanny, there is a record of her time here. Iâll do a check tonight and let you know if there are any leads.â
âOkay. Sorry for the inconvenience.â Hayden nodded his thanks.
On the way home, the two boys fell asleep in the back seat. Benjamin looked in the rearview mirror and saw that Hayden was worried. He asked him, âAre you worried about running out of steam to keep investigating, even if you get any leads?â
Hayden came to and nodded, âHow can you know what Iâm thinking?â
âIâm just trying to help.â Benjamin said weakly, âIf you trust me, you can leave it to me.â
âTo you?â Hayden was flabbergasted, âWhat are you going to do?â
âFirst, we need to get the information from all the babysitters who took care of Noah back then to find out all the ones who might be related to this incident. Then we would determine their current living status and that of their bank accounts to check if there are any suspicious transfers when Noah had the accident back then. Then you should have guessed what will happen next.â It was clearly organized and logical.
But she was puzzled about him. âBenjamin, did you remember anything?â
âA little. I think it has something to do with my work in the past.â Benjamin smiled and scoffed, âMaybe I was a cop.â
âImpossible.â Hayden twisted his mouth, âYouâre twenty at best. Youâre not even qualified to do your internship or be a graduate.â
Benjamin was speechless, and his face shadowed into the night.
Hayden didnât go to work the next day. He got a call from Freddie early in the morning, and they would meet at the management company to discuss the PR crisis.
âIâm sorry I caused you all this trouble again, Hayden.â Freddie felt guilty looking at Hayden, âThose reporters are going crazy. They write whatever they want.â
Hayden patted Freddieâs shoulder, then let his assistant take Noah and Stella off to have some fun.
âThere was nothing wrong with this business, but a new situation arose this morning.â Freddieâs agent, Atwood Bartley, sighed and pulled a long face.
âChelsea Downey.â interrupted Hayden, âI saw the news on my way over here. She dared anything.â
In the wee hours of the morning, someone claiming to be Freddieâs girlfriendâs best friend broke the news that Freddie, who had a good relationship with his girlfriend, was still being harassed by Hayden. Freddie had no choice but to compromise out of gratitude, but also because of Haydenâs strong background.
It was all nonsense, but netizens bought it and kept sharing the post.
âWe sent a letter from a lawyer and the court accepted it. But a defamation lawsuit takes a long time. And if we donât take action, this matter could ruin Freddieâs career. Heâs just started his career and heâs not even a fixture yet.â
âLet it be then.â Freddie was grim, âI would never use your plan, even if it had to end my career now.â
âA plan?â Hayden frowned, âWhatâs your plan for dealing with this?â
Freddie looked at Atwood, âHaydenâs here, do you dare tell him?â.
Atwood looked at Hayden, âWe are thinking about Freddie admitting his relationship with Chelsea. We had contacted Chelsea, and she promised to clear up about the photos.â
âNot happening unless heâs crazy.â Freddie rolled his eyes, looking at Atwood.
Hayden hesitated for a moment and confirmed again, âAre you sure you contacted Chelsea and she agreed to help?â
âYes, Iâm sure.â Atwood was ecstatic.
âHayden, are youâ¦?â. Freddie was nervous.
Hayden gave Freddie a meaningful look and said, âWhat are you worried about? Iâm not agreeing to this, I have another plan for it.â
Chelsea readily agreed and promised that her help in clearing things up would work well.
This meant that Chelsea was the one behind the scenes.
It would be easy to come to an agreement after knowing the source.
As night fell, Hayden heard Benjaminâs voice through the headset, âHeâs here. Estimated time of approach, ten minutes. Hide well and donât get spotted.â
âOkay.â Hayden pressed the handset, pulled the mask over his face and rang the doorbell.
Someone soon opened the door. âWho is it?â
When the door opened, he saw a person with curly brown hair, pale skin, and looked a little like Freddie. Just that, this tall guy had a feminine air about him.
He was wearing a hotel bathrobe and stood watching Hayden.
âI didnât call room service.â The man frowned.
âItâs a hotel promotion. Western meal for two served with red wine.â
âIs that for all rooms?â
âNo, sir. Itâs for VIPs only.â Hayden lowered her voice, feeling more respectful.
As expected, the man raised his eyebrows at the word âVIPâ and opened the door, âCome in, Iâm glad for this promotion, the service in this hotel is not bad at all. Be careful, donât step on my stuff.â
As Hayden pushed the trolley from the dining room to the room, he saw lots of candles and rose petals on the floor, it looked quite romantic.
âSet it up and leave, why stop here?â.
âLet me decant the wine for you.â
Hayden was quiet as she pulled out the decanter and poured the wine. He looked around and placed a spy camera inside a vase on the dining room table when the man wasnât looking.
After finishing, Hayden pushed the cart out of the room. On his way out, he saw someone familiar in the hallway. Despite wearing sunglasses and a mask, Hayden could identify the person by the way he carried himself.
âWait.â
Hayden panicked as he tightened his grip on the cart and turned away, lowering his head, not daring to look at her.
âPlease bring me a bottle of wine later.â Hayden was relieved and nodded.
Then he lowered his head and walked past the person.
When Hayden heard the sound of the door opening and closing in the hallway, he quickly pulled out the hotel key card and pushed the trolley to a room opposite the door.
As soon as she entered, Alayna grabbed it, âYou scared the hell out of me. I thought Chelsea recognized you. And it turned out she just wanted a bottle of wine, the way she flaunts her status and being dismissive of others is really out of character.â
âWell, cut that out.â Hayden pulled off his mask, âIs the screen tight?â.
