âWhatâs wrong?â
Joseph adopted a frightened expression and Hayden didnât know why.
After taking the earring out of the jewelry box for quite a while, Joseph seemed to have confirmed something. He went to the studio across the street and pulled out an aged black and white photo. It looked old because the corners of the photo were yellowed.
The photo was of a young woman in a cheongsam, about eighteen or nineteen years old. She was an indifferent looking beauty. She wore a gold necklace around her neck with two different sizes of jade. Although the jades were old, you could still clearly see their smooth outline.
âThis is it?â Hayden was a little puzzled.
Joseph compared the earrings and put the photo down.
gαâηÏνððsâ¤com is your fiction sanctuary âThis was my grandmother. The necklace she wore around her neck was an heirloom from her family. It had two jade inlays, one large and one small. Later, they got caught up in the war and the military took the Beckham mansion. The Beckham Family had changed, so he sold the smaller jade to subsidize his household expenses.â
âThe smaller one?â Haydenâs eyes fell on the pendant in his hand. The outline of the inlaid jade was very similar to the jade in the photo, âIs this the one?â
Joseph nodded.
No one had expected that jade to travel all the way to Jenniferâs hands.
Now, it was back in Haydenâs hands.
âAnd the other one?â She asked hurriedly.
When she mentioned this, Joseph frowned.
âGrandfather gave me the remaining jade. I made it into a necklace, but unfortunately I lost it six years ago.â
Hayden was stunned. He couldnât help but clench his fist tightly, his face looking a little nervous.
The necklace she was referring to must have been the one Hayden had ripped off her neck that day.
âWhatâs the matter with you, what are you thinking about?â
Josephâs voice snapped her out of her thoughts. She distanced herself as she absently said, âNothing, I was just quite surprised. I didnât expect this earring to have anything to do with the Beckham Family.â
âMaybe itâs fate.â Josephâs eyes were warm and it was the first time he had spoken of fate, which was previously not worthy of mention on his part.
Hayden was in a very complicated mood. After saying goodbye to Mr. Beckham, he was still thinking about the necklace when he took his children home.
After all, it was true that fate liked to play tricks on people. The existence of that necklace would always remind her of what had happened six years earlier, reminding her that she was hiding her identity from Joseph. At first it was a clue to finding her son, but now it had become a difficult problem to solve.
When she moved out, she put the earrings and necklace in a safety locker. When she closed it, it was as if she had locked all the memories she didnât want to remember in it for a while and sighed heavily.
âYou two will live here from now on, do you like it?â.
He spent a whole afternoon tidying up the house before picking up the two little ones from Alaynaâs house.
Stella was very excited. She opened all the doors in the house and looked around, âWow, this is beautiful. Itâs so much bigger than my room at Aunt Alaynaâs house. I really like my room.â
âIt was your grandmother who decorated it for you.â
Hayden followed her and looked at the beautifully decorated dolls in the room. She felt very warm.
Her aunt told her that this house had always been empty and no one had ever bothered to take care of it. But after she arrived, the house was fully furnished and simple everyday necessities had been added. Even Stellaâs room was painted pink and filled with childrenâs toys. The clothes in her closet were all new.
âNoah, this is your room.â Hayden opened a door and motioned to Noah, âCome take a look.â
Noah nodded obediently and walked over. He stood in the doorway of the room and looked at it for a while. Like his father, he couldnât see if he liked it or not.
âDo you like it?â Hayden took the initiative to ask, âThe decor is pretty plain. Grandma probably didnât know you were going to live here, so Iâll come back and decorate your room in the future, so you can tell me what you like.â
Noah ran back to the couch and grabbed his little drawing board. He looked down and wrote a few words on it. Then he held it up, â[Anything is fine as long as I stay with you and Stella].â
When Hayden saw this, he suddenly felt a little sad. He bent down and hugged him.
The doorbell suddenly rang.
âDing-dong!â Someone shouted outside the door, âHayden, open the door quick. My hands almost broke, I brought stew too.â
Stella poked her head out of the room and shouted for joy. âGodmother!â
Then she ran for the door.
Alayna carried large and small bags of ingredients into the house. As she entered she deliberately teased her, âItâs a good place, isnât it? No wonder youâre in such a hurry to move out of my little house.â
Hayden raised his eyebrows, âHow about this? Iâll trade you my house for yours. Iâm already used to living in your house. Since yours is mine, mine would be yours too.â
Hearing that, Alayna laughed satisfactorily. âWith these words from you, I will personally cook tonight to congratulate you on your housewarming.â
If Alayna were to cook, it would be normal for her to burn down the kitchen. Fortunately, she was aware of her own abilities and brought everything needed for a stew instead. However, there was one problem:
âI donât have a pot for that.â Hayden shrugged and felt a little helpless.
âHow is this a problem? Wait.â Alayna turned on her phone to call someone and raised her eyebrows looking at Hayden.
The call connected quickly.
âHayden has moved into a new house, so he asked me to call you. Come here for dinner if youâre free tonight.â
ââ¦â.
âOkay, come quickly then, and buy some stew pots on the way.â
ââ¦â.
âItâs not that much trouble. We donât need anything else, Iâve already bought everything.â Alayna suddenly raised her voice, âHayden, what else are we missing?â
Hayden was suddenly mentioned, so she answered staunchly, âThe pot.â
âOh, did you hear that? Hayden said we still need a pot.â
ââ¦â.
After hanging up the call, Alayna sat down on the couch, âAll settled.â
Hayden tugged at the corner of his lips, âWhy do I feel like youâre using me to do something bad to a good person?â.
âA good person?â Alayna pursed her lips, âKevin is a liar. He has nothing to do with a good person at all.â
âWell, thatâs true too.â
Hayden nodded his head as he agreed with her. The guilt in his heart dissipated in an instant. Then, he asked Alayna to call Kevin back to bring Benjamin.
Half an hour later, Kevin arrived with a pot and Benjamin.
As soon as Benjamin arrived, he handed everything directly to him and went to the kitchen to help. Alayna also sent Kevin into the kitchen to help. The two women lay on the couch chatting while eating pieces of cantaloupe.
When Alayna thought about Benjaminâs classist and indifferent attitude that day, she spat out the melon rind, âWhy do I get the feeling that this kid has become someone else? Wasnât he acting like a silly kid when he woke up in the hospital?â
âReally?â As far as judging people, Hayden was a bit of a simpleton. She didnât realize something was wrong, âMaybe he has some thoughts in his mind that bother him. Why, whatâs wrong? Do you sense something wrong with him?â
Alayna raised her eyebrows and looked towards the kitchen with a meaningful look, âNo, I mean now this boy looks much more handsome than before. How old is he, is he already twenty years old?â.
âDonât tell me youâve fallen in love with him.â Hayden looked wary .
