The maid kept nodding her head. She felt uncomfortable, but murmured slowly, âYoung Madam, the air in the guest room smells bad. Mr. Beckham told you to stay in Masterâs room and he would stay in the guest room. Please rest. If you need anything, let me know.â
Having said this, the maid quickly ran away as if something terrifying was chasing her from behind.
Hayden did not catch up with her. The old mansion was so big that he got lost after he saw it. She couldnât find her way out, so she let herself go with the flow.
She took a deep breath and began to look around the house.
Josephâs room was as plain as the courtyard; all the furniture was of scented rosewood. His room faced south and was divided into two parts. The one facing east looked like a study room. The door was ajar and revealed a desk with a brush and thin writing paper.
Was he still practicing calligraphy? Hayden was a little surprised, so he pushed open the door and stepped inside.
On top of the fine, neatly cut writing paper was a paperweight. After looking closely at the contents of the paper, Hayden let out a laugh as he held the edge of the table.
On the paper were two words: â[Extremely Boring]â.
In that straightforward environment and solemn atmosphere, who could imagine that a strict man like him would write something like that?
He laughed at the thought of the man sitting solemnly at his desk, holding a paintbrush and writing those words so contradictory to his image.
Hayden was suddenly curious when he saw some papers lying in the trash can to the side, so he bent down and pulled them out.
The first paper scribbled â[this is so annoying]â, the other one wrote â[what bad weather]â, and one of them even wrote â[wake up early tomorrow]â.
Hayden was laughing so hard at the series of nonsensical handwriting that he didnât even notice Joseph walk in.
âWhat are you laughing at?â Joseph walked toward her and asked.
âWow, why did you show up all of a sudden?â. Hayden unconsciously threw away the paper in his hand and gently touched his chest.
How could this man walk without producing any sound?
âItâs you whoâs too focused on it. I called out to you, but you didnât hear me.â Joseph smiled and leaned against the door.
âYou wrote all this down?â Haydenâs face turned red as he stifled laughter at the mention of his masterpiece.
Upon seeing his âmasterpieceâ, Joseph immediately adopted a ghastly expression and muttered, âIs it a habit of yours to look in peopleâs garbage cans?â
âItâs not a habit of mine, but now that Iâve seen someoneâs masterpiece, I think I can cultivate this habit in the future.â Hayden seemed not to have noticed Josephâs expression as he continued to tease him.
âBoring.â Joseph glanced at the laughing woman and shook his head helplessly.
âItâs extremely boring.â Hayden scoffed.
Seeing Josephâs humiliated face, he laughed even harder. He lost his balance as he wasnât paying attention and fell on his butt. He couldnât get up for a moment.
âHahaha⦠ouch!â. Hayden laughed and felt his butt hurt. For a moment, he didnât know if he was crying or laughing.
Joseph still felt embarrassed when he saw her sitting on the floor.
His humiliation turned to helplessness as he stepped forward and held out his hand, âAll right, get up when youâre done laughing. The floor is very cold, donât catch cold later and annoy me.â
Hayden grabbed her hand trying to get up. She continued to tease him and asked, âAre you going to get up early tomorrow?â.
Joseph became angry at her teasing. He grabbed her wrist and forcefully pulled her upward.
Hayden was helpless as an enormous force lifted her off the ground. She was still smiling when Joseph pulled her toward him. She lifted her head and looked at him stunned.
âAre you still laughing?â Joseph lowered his head, Then warned her in a gravelly voice full of aggression.
Hayden recovered from her surprise. The man at that moment made her feel extremely in danger, so she struggled quickly, âLet go of me.â
âArenât you laughing at me? Now you can laugh all you want.â Joseph couldnât think of letting go, so she couldnât struggle at all.
Hayden suddenly became anxious. âGrandpa said youâd be staying in the guest room, what are you doing here? Iâll tell Grandpa youâre bullying me.â
âOh?â Josephâs final tone was particularly long-winded: âI just had a half-hour talk with Grandpa about work, but I didnât hear him say anything about staying in the guest room.â
Hayden was stunned for a moment before jumping in surprise.
âWhat do you mean, you think I came to your room on purpose? What were you thinking?â
Joseph didnât know whether to cry or laugh. The thought of teasing her faded after seeing her act so cute and serious.
Joseph looked at Hayden as he raised an eyebrow and the corners of his lips drooped into a smile. âYou donât think Grandpa made this arrangement on purpose?â.
Hayden was startled as his face flushed. He lowered his head and thought, âNoâ¦I donât think so.â
âWhy not?â Joseph lowered his head and moved closer to her face. Not knowing if he did it on purpose, he exhaled his warm breath on her face.
Hayden felt her face sting and her heart pounding.
Hayden lowered his head even further. This was the old Beckham Family mansion after all, the atmosphere here inexplicably made her feel like she should be a reserved woman.
But it was really hard for her to do so since Joseph was so close to her!
âYou⦠let me go.â Hayden pursed her lips and stammered, âIâll go sleep in the guest room.â
âYouâre already in my room, do you really think Iâm going to let you go?â A deep voice sounded above her head.
Unconsciously she looked up and saw a hint of mockery in his eyes. His deep gaze seemed to want to swallow her.
âWhat do you want?â
She looked up. Before she could recover from the surprise, Joseph grabbed her around the waist and lifted her into his arms. Then he moved toward the room facing east.
âJoseph, are you crazy? Put me down!â Hayden struggled vigorously.
âWhat, do you want everyone to hear you?â Joseph smiled and sneered at her.
The next second, Hayden was thrown down on the fluffy bed. Before he could react, his vision went black.
The manâs charming face slowly approached her. Hayden quickly closed her eyes and clutched the sheet tightly in her hands.
There was no movement, so Hayden slowly opened her eyes. She saw a man holding his hands at his side and looking down at her with a smile. The mocking expression on his face was even more evident than before.
âDo you expect anything to happen?â.
âYou scoundrel.â Haydenâs face was red as he gritted his teeth to express his displeasure.
âOh? Did you scold me because you were disappointed or because things didnât turn out the way you wished?â The man smiled and his deep voice sounded flirtatious.
Suddenly, Hayden latched onto his neck and planted a kiss on his lips.
âIt seems youâve told me the answer through your actions.â
âShameless.â
The noises of them fooling around sounded inside the room, and there was a hint of sweetness venting in the air.
