“The news isn’t quite real – did you get something wrong?”

Joseph Beckham was relaxed as he took the lead in talking about the news that had been making a lot of noise since last night.

Despite the feeling of dissatisfaction, Hayden did his best to remain calm as he looked at him.

“Since the reporter’s news isn’t everything, then let’s see what’s behind it. Don’t tell me you just happened to meet her at the airport and the reporter casually taped it.”

“No.” Joseph furrowed his eyebrows, “I didn’t keep the matter from you that Violet helped contact the German doctor. When I took Noah to Germany, it just so happened that she was also shooting a commercial there, and that’s why we saw each other. As for the matter of the sneaky photo of us returning from abroad, Magnus has already taken care of it. It will be removed from the internet very soon.”

Joseph explained it as plain as day in a nutshell.

Hayden was about to believe him. If it wasn’t for Alayna’s words the night before, at that moment she would feel scolded for being so stubborn and refusing to believe him even on such a trivial matter.

Hayden took a deep breath as she looked at him with cold eyes, “Are you done talking?”.

“You don’t believe me?” Joseph frowned. He thought he had explained it clearly. He’d never bothered to waste spit on a woman over something unreal.

“I believe you. Of course I believe what you said.” Hayden looked at him and lifted his wrist, glancing at his watch. “Only you should go since you’re done talking. My free time is about to end. Five more minutes and I have to get back to work.”

Joseph was puzzled by her nonchalance. Hayden was still behaving this way after a moment of silence. He questioned, “Hayden, I don’t like playing mind games with you.”

“Neither do I.”

Their conversation went quickly, and the situation became even awkward.

After a while, the office door clicked against the wall, emitting a loud sound. Hayden clenched the fist holding the corner of the desk as he watched Joseph leave.

Joseph made a fuss over this only to see Hayden get angry that he was with another woman, right?

Joseph got into the car after leaving the ST Hotel. He had never felt so upset.

Magnus was unaware of it as he held the steering wheel while he reported the status of the reservation, “Mr. Beckham, I made a reservation for six-thirty tonight.”

“Cancel it…” Joseph said from behind without letting Magnus finish his words.

Magnus was stunned to see Joseph’s face shadowed through the rear view mirror.

“Alright, I’ll do it, will Miss Downey be working overtime tonight?”. Magnus asked nonchalantly.

As he asked, he could see Joseph looking at him with cold eyes through the rear view mirror window. Joseph was making his hair stand on end.

Why did he have to bring it up?

Luckily, the phone rang in time and saved Magnus’ life.

It was a call from Kevin. Joseph glanced at it, then answered, “What’s up?”

Kevin spoke cautiously, “Did Hayden know about the news?”

“Yes.” Joseph replied in a cold voice.

“Did they argue?” Kevin boldly proceeded to the next question.

“No.”

Kevin, on the other end of the line, was silent for a moment after hearing Joseph’s incompatible reply, “Joseph, I intend to take a vacation in the next couple of days. If there is anything that needs me in the company, get my assistant. I won’t be back for the time being.”

It was customary for Kevin to take a vacation, especially when he got in trouble with some girls. Joseph had gotten used to it after so many years, and agreed without asking any reason.

“When will you be back?”

“Depends.” Kevin’s tone was unnatural. “Erm, I have something to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“Actually, Alayna had heard the news and came to my house last night along with Stella. I got careless and accidentally blurted out about you faking it. I didn’t know you were so slick, making it all up in one night, with the news being published as well.”

“What?” Joseph was perplexed.

“Joseph, I know you would be upset to see me in the days to come, so I would just stick to avoiding you. I’m so sorry…”

Kevin hung up immediately before Joseph finished questioning him.

Looking at the screen, Joseph remembered what Kevin said. Suddenly, he realized something and immediately called back.

“I’m sorry, but the number you have dialed is no longer in service.” A female operator’s voice repeated.

Joseph hung up and texted Kevin instantly, “[Stay abroad and never come back].”

Joseph had come to his senses as he realized what Kevin wanted to tell him a moment ago. It was no wonder that whatever Joseph said, Hayden just looked at him, unconcerned, as if she knew everything.

This was so wrong.

“Magnus, there’s no need to cancel the reservation for tonight. Go back to the hotel.” Joseph’s voice rang throughout the car.

“Okay.”

Magnus was stunned to see Joseph’s look of disgust through the rearview mirror.

Joseph went straight to Hayden’s office when he returned to the ST Hotel, but she wasn’t there.

“Mr. Beckham.” Hayden’s assistant, Jeff, walked in and looked nervous when he saw Joseph, “Why is she back?”

The hotel was in an uproar with Joseph and Hayden having a confrontation in the cafeteria at noon. There were many stories about it. Some said Joseph slammed the door and left, some even heard that Joseph had also broken up with Hayden.

Why had he come back now?

“Where’s Miss Downey?”. Joseph saw Jeff’s ID card and remembered him as Hayden’s assistant.

Jeff came to and replied, “Miss Downey is taking a leave of absence this afternoon. She just left ten minutes ago.”

“Taking a leave of absence?” Joseph frowned, even regretting having said some very nasty things just now.

Would she feel aggrieved and not even want to stay for work anymore?

Jeff looked at Joseph and said cautiously, “Mr. Beckham, today is Freddie’s first concert. It looks like Miss Downey is going to the concert tonight.”

Hearing this, Joseph was dumbfounded, “She went alone?”.

Jeff shook his head hesitantly, “No. I saw Benjamin waiting for her at the entrance for a long time. I think they go together and I heard Miss Downey say something about going home to get her daughter.”

Hearing about Benjamin, Joseph went cold. This kid was good at taking advantage. He was everywhere .
