Hayden made a long face and put his ear close to the door, listening to Joseph’s voice coming from outside. “No need, I still have things to take care of. I’ll put the presents in here. Let your mommy get a good night’s rest.”

“Okay.” Stella said.

Joseph was speechless.

“See you later, Joseph.”

Joseph was in a hurry and left after handing her those items. What was the point of this?

“He’s apologizing!” Alayna was sitting on the floor, holding the latest handbag model Chanel brought out. And she also explained to Hayden, “Don’t you understand? He has reflected on himself and felt guilty, so he decided to buy this to make it up to you. It’s the latest model, where did he buy it?! It’s a limited edition.”

Hayden glanced at the gifts piled everywhere. She didn’t feel happy after hearing Alayna’s words, but on the contrary, she felt even more oppressed.

“You mean it has something to do with Violet Kidman?”.

“If not, why is she doing this?”. Alayna leaned back on the couch and thoughtfully analyzed.

“Today is no special day. Would it be his personal penchant for sending such gifts? And why didn’t he say anything and leave? Was he trying to appear calm? In fact, he’s just giving you a buffer period while you open the gifts, feel happy and forget about your anger.”

“Oh, yeah?” Hayden was confused.

“Humor me.”

This was the second time he’d heard that.

“Then I’ll give them all back to you.”

“Huh?” Alayna was surprised, “You’re kidding, right? This is a limited edition.”

“I should return it then.”

“Leave this one.”

“Not a single one.” If Joseph was giving her these gifts to cover up his mistake, Hayden would never tolerate this.

Alayna was speechless.

In the evening, the two men were sitting across from each other, drinking at the same bar.

“Did she return all the gifts? She’s really pissed this time.” Kevin stroked his chin thoughtfully, he felt puzzled, “Most women can’t resist such temptation.”

“I’ve already said it, she’s different from other women.” Joseph shot Kevin a look of displeasure.

He thought he was fine until Kevin came up with this horrible idea.

“You’re right!” Kevin realized something: “Hayden is definitely not an ordinary woman. She’s a strong woman, that kind of trick can’t fool her.”

Joseph was speechless.

“For Hayden, what doesn’t kill her, makes her stronger. There’s motivation in competition.”

“What do you mean?” Joseph looked at Kevin with a frown.

“To put it bluntly, she’s a bit of a masochist.” Kevin said confidently, “Women can do anything out of jealousy. You’re giving her an out, but she’s ungrateful. Then you’ll treat her the other way around.”

Joseph was speechless.

…

The three-day vacation had passed all too soon.

“She still hasn’t gotten in touch with you?” Alayna curled up on the couch as she fiddled with her phone. “It doesn’t make sense.”

“You’re like a backseat chauffeur.”

Hayden pulled out the fruit salad and set it on the table. He sat cross-legged on the floor and sighed, “I think it’s fine, it’s not as complicated as you were saying. In fact, it’s simple. I’ll just ask him about that day when I meet him.”

“Oh yeah?” Alayna was puzzled, “In my experience, men are…. Ah!”.

Without finishing speaking, Alayna suddenly exclaimed and jumped off the couch. Hayden was startled by her sudden movement and the grape of her fork fell under the table.

“What are you doing? You scared the hell out of me.”

“My experience has proven me right.” Alayna grabbed Hayden, who was bending down to pick up the grape, and showed the screen of her phone to Hayden, “Did you see this? It’s proved me right. This is life experience.”

The headline, Violet Kidman and a mysterious man were close, appearing at the airport, along with a five-year-old boy, suspected to have been born out of wedlock.

“Isn’t that Joseph and Noah?” Alayna said bluntly, “I can recognize them even being pixelated. They’re probably not just visiting the doctor in Germany, more like he’s bringing his son and his mistress after a vacation abroad.”

Hayden tried to stop overthinking it, “No, this wouldn’t be it. Maybe it’s like what I assumed earlier. Maybe he was only able to make an appointment with the doctor with Violet’s help. I heard Joseph’s assistant mention it once.”

“See a doctor?” Alayna flipped through her phone and opened Violet’s profile, “Would you still say they went to Germany just to see a doctor after seeing this?”

Violet was lying by the hotel pool, with a caption of, “[Appreciating having you on such a special day. Happy birthday to me].”

A week ago was Violet’s birthday, and many blessed her online. However, she was at a resort hotel in Germany. And she had sparked a heated debate on the internet.

“Shameless.” Alayna gritted her teeth and turned off the phone, “Don’t be sad, Hayden. I’ll recruit an army of internet fans to rebuke this cheating couple.”

Hayden was confused, and seemed to have ringing in his ears. He never thought Joseph cared so much. He’d always thought Noah was the main reason for getting close to Joseph.

But now that she had seen him having a secret relationship with another girl, Hayden felt heartbroken. The pain was no less than the pain she felt when she discovered her ex-boyfriend cheating on her.

“Let me think about it.” Hayden stopped listening to Alayna comforting her and locked herself in her room.

“What’s wrong with Mom?” Stella didn’t know anything about what had happened on the Internet and was puzzled.

“Stella, the new daddy you’ve found is no good – even worse than Edison! It’s all clear now.”

“Does it have something to do with Joseph?”. Stella heard it was related to Joseph and made a point of following her.

Alayna was one for action, so she changed her clothes. Then, she pulled Stella out in the middle of the night.

“Shall we go see Joseph? This doesn’t look like the way to Joseph’s house.” Stella leaned against the car window, “Alayna, you’re going in the wrong direction.”

“I’m definitely not going with that cheater. It’s a waste of time talking to him.”

“So, where are we headed?”.

“With his bastard friend.”

“Huh?”

Fifteen minutes later, in the living room of a villa in the western district, the maid left after making tea.

“Tell me about it, what’s going on?”.

Alayna opened the notice and placed it on the small table. She said in disgust, “If he didn’t want to get along with Hayden, let him tell her. It’s too disgusting that he cheated on Hayden.”

“Cheating?” Kevin was perplexed. He was stunned for a moment after seeing the news, and let out a sudden laugh, “Joseph’s acting too fast!”
