She was enraged, it showed in the way she spoke.

Joseph Beckham was confused and asked, “Who pissed you off?”.

Saying this, Hayden burst out, “Who else, who…?”.

He was about to say something, but when he looked at Joseph’s expressionless face, he gritted his teeth and merely said, “No one, I’m tired.”

“Stay the night if you’re tired. I’ll take you back tomorrow morning.”

Hayden was furious as she stuffed all her clothes into her suitcase, “No thanks. I’m leaving now. I have to go back to see my daughter.”

“I’ll drive you.”

“I have my car.”

Hayden had been borrowing Alayna’s car for the past two days. He could finally return it to her tonight.

After he finished talking, he closed his suitcase, pulled the handle, and drove on. Her movements were neat and deft.

Joseph stood in the doorway, perplexed as he watched her go.

…

“So, she let you go like that? It’s late already, and he didn’t give you a lift?”

“I told him I didn’t need it.”

“So he didn’t take you just because you didn’t want him to!”.

Alayna applied a face mask as she listened to Hayden tell her about the whole incident when he returned. Alayna exploded, slapping her hand on the table, and said, “Trust no man, fear no bitch. Kevin Jackman, that son of a bitch, he’s no good. And what would you think of his childhood friend? I’ve barked up the wrong tree by trusting Joseph Beckham.”

“It’s not a question of whether he’ll take me or not. It’s just why is Violet Kidman accompanying him to take Noah to see a doctor overseas? She hadn’t even told me. What’s wrong with telling me? I’m not such a stubborn person. What can I do to stop him if it’s something that requires his ex’s help?”

Hayden was foaming at the mouth.

“This is what you saw. Imagine the ones you didn’t.” Alayna even added fuel to the fire, adding, “Had you seen Violet helping Joseph with his tie? It’s such an ambiguous thing! And it was even at the entrance of the hotel – isn’t she digging up the hatchet against you?”

“They didn’t know I was there.”

“That’s a war against you too! The receptionist should have seen it and Joseph’s assistant should have known too. They are all hiding from you, this is going too far. It’s so humiliating.”

“It’s not that bad!” Hayden hesitated, feeling that Alayna had exaggerated about it.

“Listen to me. Don’t ever try to worry about him right now. Men are very stupid. Let him reflect on himself and let him admit his guilt to you.”

“Admit his guilt?” Hayden curved his lips, “Joseph is not like Kevin. I think that’s a no for him.”

Alayna frowned and disagreed, “Men need to be trained. Take it from me.”

The two friends were in the midst of discussing their men having affairs. On the other side, the men were conversing in a secluded bar.

Joseph described Hayden as unhappy in a nutshell.

“Fact?” Kevin spread his arms wide, “You say she’s angry and you won’t tell me any reason, how can I give you advice?”.

“Maybe, it’s because I’m late coming home this time.” Joseph frowned, feeling puzzled, “Or she’s angry because I left the reception to her alone.”

“Impossible.” Kevin waved his hand, rejecting this possibility. “Women really like it when men confide in them. So this wouldn’t be the reason. In my opinion, the main reason women get really angry is their boyfriends’ exes.”

“You overthink it.” Joseph looked at Kevin with a calm face, “That would be unlikely. I’ve cleared up the matter between Violet and me.”

“And the other one?” Kevin shook the wine in his hand and gave Joseph a meaningful look. “Did you mention anything about her earlier? Perhaps she had seen something at your house?”.

At the mention of this, Joseph gave him a cutting look.

Kevin coughed, “Forget what I said…ahem. Since that’s not the reason, then it would be another.”

“What is the reason?”

“There are many reasons for a woman to get angry, who knows if she got angry over something trivial. The good thing is that they are easy to console.”

“For example?”

“It’s enough to buy anything. A purse, jewelry, clothes, makeup, anything will do.”

“That’s simple.” Joseph nodded thoughtfully, drank the wine. He put the glass down and got up, “It’s late. I’m going back.”

“Huh?” Kevin glared at him and exclaimed, “How could you, burning the bridge for me and leaving me here alone at night?”

“Do you still find the night boring?” Joseph shot him a look, “Didn’t you just open a new bar? Are you bored yet?”

“Don’t mention it.” Kevin felt bitter, “Alayna fought with me the last few days over this issue. She’d break up with me if I ever set foot in that bar again.”

“Isn’t this what you want?”.

“I’m serious this time.”

“You’re always serious.” Joseph got serious bit by bit, “Alayna is her friend. Try not to make things look so bad.”

“Come on. I’ve told you and you still don’t believe me. We’ve been friends for many years.” Kevin waved his hand at Joseph, “Get the hell out of here, don’t mess with me.”

Joseph calmed down as he grabbed his jacket. He patted Kevin on the shoulder before walking away. “I hear there are a lot of people after Alayna.”

Kevin froze for a moment, and came to when Joseph had left. He shouted at Joseph, “Hey, why didn’t you clear it up for me? Who’s flirting with her? How did you find out? Are they from the hotel? Who dares to steal my girl? Is it your assistant, Magnus James, that brat?” Joseph was speechless.

The next morning, Hayden was still asleep in her bed when she was awakened by the loud exclamation coming from the living room. “Wow, Joseph, are these all gifts from you?”

Stella glowered at Joseph’s assistant, Magnus James, who entered with a large bag of luxury items.

“Mr. Beckham, there’s still something in the car. I’ll be back for it.”

Hayden’s hair was still in disarray when he opened the door. He saw Stella behaving spinelessly, hugging Joseph’s neck as she fawned over him for a box of chocolates.

“Joseph, did you come especially to give these gifts to Mom, why isn’t Noah here?”

“Noah is still at home recovering from the trip.” Joseph looked into the room, “Is your mom still asleep?”.

“Yes. I’m going to get Mom up to go grocery shopping. Please stay for dinner.”
