Before Alayna answered, Kevin had arrived. Standing at 6â6â³ tall. His model body figure brought out the best in the white suit he wore.
âWhy are you here?â As expected, the first person Kevin spoke to was Alayna.
âWhy are you asking, are you saying I canât be here because your family owns the place?â
âI donât mean that.â Kevin smiled awkwardly, âSomeone told me that we had come to an end and that we had come to a farewell. Not too long agoâ¦â
âSorry, I keep meaning what I said last night.â Alayna rolled her eyes. Then suddenly she waved at Kevinâs back in a sweet tone, âHoney, Iâm here.â
A blond-haired, blue-eyed man approached them. He was the youngest of tonightâs guests. His broad, muscular western manâs figure made him look a size older than Kevin.
Alayna took his arm affectionately as he arrived. âLet me introduce you to my boyfriend, Spencer.â
After greeting Spencer, Hayden quickly pushed Joseph away from the scene.
Alayna and Kevin would never admit defeat. Their pride was their priority, the way they fought with each other was a norm for the people around them. But this time, Hayden thought Alayna had gone too far. Kevin looked terrible.
After Hayden and Joseph left, Kevinâs expression worsened. He said angrily, âAlayna, if Iâm not mistaken, we broke up last night, have you found a new boyfriend yet?â
âIs there a problem?â Alayna glared at him, âAfter all, I got a new boyfriend after we broke up, but someone likes to find a new girlfriend before they break up.â
âI told you she was a friendâs sister.â
âYour friend must have a lot of sisters then.â
ââ¦â.
On the other side, Hayden was drinking some red wine with a guest while grabbing Josephâs arm. After a while, his face flushed. Then he leaned on Josephâs arm.
Music was playing in the lounge and a guest asked Hayden to dance.
Hayden accepted and entered the dance floor.
Hayden was wearing a burgundy red dress. Her dress swirled as she danced and looked stunning under the ballroom lights. It was so striking that people began to stop and watch Hayden dance.
Kevin approached Joseph with a glass of wine in his hand.
They clinked glasses as the music played. As they watched Hayden dance, Kevin insulted, âArenât you jealous that men are looking at her?â
âShouldnât they be jealous?â. Joseph calmed down and took a sip from the wine glass, âAfter all, all they can do is watch. She belongs to me.â
âItâs good to be positive. I used to be like that.â Kevin shrugged, âBut as I get older, I canât be so positive anymore.â
Joseph looked at Kevin and corrected him, âYou werenât being positive. You didnât care about anything in the past.â
Kevin would change girlfriends so fast that sometimes he wouldnât even remember his ex-girlfriendâs name after a day, that wasnât being positive. It meant that nothing mattered to him, having girlfriends was just an act of psychological necessity.
âAre you saying I care now?â.
âYou care, but you acted like you didnât care.â Joseph looked at a point from afar, âIf you keep pretending you donât like her, she wonât be yours.â
âWhat do you mean?â Kevin frowned.
âTake a look.â
Kevin turned and looked over to where Joseph was looking. He saw Alayna and her new boyfriend standing on the other side of the dance floor. They were standing very close to each other. Alayna was holding his arm with one hand and giving him fruit with the other.
Kevin immediately went crazy.
Alayna wanted to find someone new to make him jealous. Thatâs fine, but this time she went too far.
Kevin gulped down his wine in anger. Then he put down the wine glass and left the scene.
As a song ended, another man approached Hayden to ask her to another dance. Hayden shook her head and turned the man down, saying she had a headache after drinking. She then quickly crossed the dance floor and returned next to Joseph.
âI thought I saw Kevin here a moment ago.â Hayden took a sip of water from a glass Joseph held out to him.
âHe just left.â
Hayden nodded and then sighed, âHow soon do you think theyâll be back together?â
âBefore the partyâs over.â Joseph replied in a nonchalant tone.
âWhat?â Hayden raised her head in surprise, âWhy?â.
Joseph looked in a direction across the dance floor. Hayden also looked in the direction Joseph had pointed. He saw Kevin pull Alayna away from her new boyfriend and head for the nearest VIP room. The atmosphere was filled with ambiguity and passion.
âWhat did I miss?â Haydenâs eyes went wide.
Joseph hugged Hayden and briefly explained, âYou missed the show, with a prodigal return.â
The party ended around ten oâclock that night. Other than Alayna and Kevin, all the other guests were staying at the hotel. Therefore, the aftermath of the party was much easier. There wasnât much to do, so Hayden headed to his room after instructing the staff to clean up the place.
Haydenâs schedule filled up with the itinerary of guests throughout the week.
Joseph was with her the first two days, but disappeared on the third.
âMr. Beckham had to take care of a few things. The guest will be under your concern from now on, Miss Downey.â
When Hayden asked about Josephâs whereabouts, Magnus was evasive and suspicious.
âWhat things?â Hayden asked.
Magnus coughed and answered carefully, âI donât know everything about Mr. Beckham, it was a private matter.â
Hayden frowned. Joseph didnât seem like a person who didnât know how to prioritize. He didnât usually put important guests aside to attend to his private business, unless it was urgent.
Joseph didnât return until after midnight.
Hayden was asleep, but woke up when Joseph opened the door. She sat up in bed with puppy-dog eyes and asked Joseph, âDid you just get back? What time is it?â
Joseph sat up in bed and hugged Hayden. âGo back to sleep. Itâs only midnight.â
Hayden hugged Joseph around the waist again and rested his head on his chest like a tender kitten.
âSleep.â Joseph stroked Haydenâs back., his eyes filled with tenderness.
Hayden closed his eyes as he heard the sound of running water in the bathroom. But suddenly, he heard the notification tone of the phone, he took it from the bedside table with half-opened eyes and read the message. â[Donât forget tomorrow, Iâll meet you at the airport].â
Hayden frowned. He thought it was a message sent by mistake, but realized he had the wrong phone when he saw the senderâs name.
In the senderâs column was Violetâs name.
