“What do you want?” Hayden put down the silverware and asked in confusion.

“What do you think?” Joseph questioned back with a smile on his face.

Hayden instantly blushed as she lowered her head, muttering, “Can’t you wait until I’m done with dinner? Why do you always have your mind in the gutter…”.

Before she could finish speaking, she lifted her head, saw Joseph getting up and leaving the table. He looked tall under the lights.

“What are you doing?” Hayden was confused as she watched Joseph head for the couch.

Joseph picked up a sizable purple gift box on the couch and untied the ribbon on the edge of the box. Opening it, inside was a greenish black cheongsam with a dark red flower print embroidered on the flap.

It was graceful and elegant.

“This is your attire to take Hans and the others to visit Garden H tomorrow.” Joseph’s tone was light, but she could still hear the mockery in his words when she listened carefully.

Hayden felt very embarrassed that she had put her foot in her mouth.

Ironically, Joseph aired her dirty laundry, “What did you just say about me?”

Joseph furrowed his eyebrows, looking at Hayden with confusion.

Hayden grabbed the clothes and ran into the room behind the screen abruptly to avoid his gaze, “Nothing. I’m going to try this on.”

Joseph flashed an ambiguous smile. Hearing the scraping noise coming from behind the screen, he entered the room decisively.

Hayden had her back to Joseph as she tried to fasten the cheongsam she had just put on. She didn’t think much as he entered.

She lowered her head as she asked in a choked voice, “Why is this button on the collar so hard to fasten?”

As she grew frustrated, someone from behind picked up her hair. And she was about to turn around. “Don’t move.”

Hayden froze immediately, feeling her gentle movement. And he seemed to have his heart fluttering.

“Thank you.” She pursed her lips, pretending to be calm. She was tangled and couldn’t button it as she fidgeted.

“Let me help you.”

Joseph’s husky voice coming from behind her was melodious.

Hayden lowered his head and could see his slender fingers on either side pinching the button. He managed to fit the button into the buttonhole with ease.

“Does it fit?” Hayden looked at herself in the mirror. She was tall and slim, she looked even prettier in that cheongsam.

She felt sad not to get a response from him. She looked at the man in the mirror.

In the mirror, Joseph was bowing his head slightly behind her and then walked in front of her. His right hand lifted her chin and gently turned it towards him. Their faces were close together and he replied, “That’s splendid.”

Hayden felt his warm breath next to her ear. She remained pinned in place, bewildered.

Meanwhile, Joseph lifted her head and kissed her.

Hayden came to and tried to push him away.

But unexpectedly, when she had just touched his chest, her hand was grabbed tightly by Joseph. And immediately, he pulled her into his arms tightly.

Hayden felt like she was running out of air. She was flushed and her body was shaking with nerves.

Joseph let go of Hayden and scoffed as he felt her trembling in his arms.

“Are you blushing yet?” He teased.

Instantly, Hayden felt very embarrassed.

“Looks like we need to practice more in the future.” He spoke with a smile.

“Get over it.” As Hayden said, she lowered her head, walked around Joseph, and headed out.

In the next moment, she was caught, only to be lifted up.

“What are you doing?” Hayden was surprised as he struggled to get down.

“What’s the matter, do you want to do it here?”.

“You’re a scoundrel!”. Hayden was speechless. He really was shameless.

In the bedroom, Joseph led Hayden into the bathroom. She was embarrassed, folded her arms and alert.

She was about to ask Joseph to come out, but Joseph spoke first, “Take a shower first. I have something to take care of.”

As she watched him go, Hayden hit her head mercilessly. Hayden, what’s on your mind?

As she stepped out of the shower, Joseph was closing his laptop and walked into the bathroom.

Hayden let out a sigh as she lifted the blanket and lay down on the bed. Dazed, she felt someone lie down on the bed next to her. And then a strong arm took her in his arms.

“You’re here.” Hayden leaned against Joseph in a daze.

The sounds he made were soft, as if he had just fallen asleep, and it tickled her heart.

“Hold still.” Joseph furrowed his eyebrows and stood slightly away from Hayden.

But then Hayden seemed dissatisfied with the person. He frowned in dissatisfaction, pouting with his mouth he leaned in again.

“Damn it.” vociferated Joseph as he was about to make a move, but Hayden turned away and took a slow deep breath.

He had no choice but to get out of bed and walked back into the bathroom. It took him a long time to suppress the strange feeling in his heart.

…

Darkness fell. Joseph held Hayden in his arms, watching her sleep. He felt warm for the first time after being alone for so long.

He once felt that people were born to be alone and would always be alone. Love was an illusory thing and he didn’t need it.

But he would be lucky when he truly found it.

This woman had a magic that attracted him, making his world less boring. And it seemed like everything was going well with her around.

At that moment, Hayden in her arms frowned, and she seemed to have a dream that filled her with anxiety.

“Noah…”

Joseph heard her murmur and came back to himself. He hugged her tighter and heard again, “Come to mama…”.

She had a dull look with darkened eyes, looking down into his arms.
