Hayden floundered in the water. All his senses had awakened. There was a new surge of excitement. His eyes widened and unfocused, his whole body began to shake uncontrollably. Then her body fell into Joseph’s embrace.

Finally she passed out.

In her daze, she seemed to realize that someone was drying her body. She was placed on a large, clean, comfortable bed, then covered with a blanket.

She was exhausted, so she fell asleep. As she slept, she had a strange dream.

She dreamed she was in the most luxurious part of the city of N-Town. The evening sky was red and she was walking alone down the street, suddenly she felt blank.

M๏гє ยק๔คՇєร ןภ ɢคlภ๏שєlร.ς๏๓ “Hayden…”. Then a familiar voice was heard. When she raised her head, she didn’t know she was clutching Joseph’s arm.

Stunned, she wanted to pull her hands away, but Joseph held her and said tenderly, “Let’s go back to dinner. Go quickly and pick up the children.”

“Go home?” She didn’t understand and looked at Joseph as she asked, “Go home to whose house? We…”.

“Why are you so confused?”. In the dream, Joseph was very spoiled and looked at her, “We’ve been married for a year now Are you still asking me whose house we’re going back to?”.

“Married?” Hayden followed behind him.

“Dad, Mom!” The two children ran from a distance and rushed into his arms. Their voices rang like bells in his ears.

Joseph carried Stella to sit her on his shoulders. The perfect scene made her dispel a strange worry she had.

The scene suddenly changed to a Beckham Family reunion.

Harrison Beckham was all praise for her, “You are so good to Noah, you really treat him like your own son. Joseph was so lucky to marry you. I’m sure of it.”

Several unfamiliar faces nodded and agreed with what Harrison said, “Yes, yes, Joseph is very lucky.”

The two children clutched his hands on either side. Their innocent eyes were full of trust and love for her.

Then, a burly person pulled them aside and held out his hand to reveal an emerald necklace. She asked in a chilling voice, “What is this?”

The emerald necklace was hers and had been in her possession all these years. After the marriage, she had clung to it and hadn’t expected him to find it.

“What is Noah and Stella’s past?” The sudden question made her tense and she was unable to answer right away.

“You knew everything from the beginning. Was this the reason you approached me? You’re disgusting, Hayden.” There was no warmth in Joseph’s face as his voice was utterly cold and icy as he continued, “You won’t be able to see the children after today.”

His fears churned like tidal waves as he hugged the two children tightly, “No, the children are mine…”.

“Servants, take the children away…”.

“No!” Hayden shouted. Her voice broke the dream as she woke up. She was like a drowning person gasping for air.

The room was dark as blue-gray curtains covered the blue sky outside. It was night now and it looked very much like the dream sky.

Hayden broke out in a cold sweat, thought about his dream and had a nagging fear.

Knock, knock, knock…

The maid knocked at the door, “Miss Downey, are you awake?”.

Hayden came to and was about to answer. Then she realized that she was sleeping in Joseph’s room, so all the servants in the villa must have known what had happened.

“Erm.” Her face flushed as she answered.

It was as if the maid knew she was embarrassed, so she didn’t open the door, just said to him from outside, “I’ll put the clothes outside the door, so you can rest a while longer.”

Once the footsteps moved away, Hayden let out a sigh of relief and lifted the coverlet to look at himself. He was wearing baggy pajamas that must have been Joseph’s, they still had his scent on them.

Once he had his clothes on, he went downstairs and saw that among several servants were busily working in the kitchen. The delicious fragrance of the dishes wafted into the dining room.

The maid who had brought her clothes was picking up the toys from the sofa. As soon as she saw Hayden come downstairs, the maid greeted respectfully, “Miss Downey.”

Hayden blushed and tried to hide his discomfort by asking, “Where’s your boss?”

“The boss instructed us to expect him for dinner. But if you’re hungry, I’ll bring him something to snack on.”

“No need.” Hayden awkwardly replied, “No need, I’ll leave now.”

“But the Young Master has gone to pick up little Noah and Stella. They should be back soon.”

Hayden could only sit down when he heard that.

“Please take a seat while I bring you some snacks.” Said the maid.

Hayden said it wasn’t necessary, but she still ran to get some snacks. Although the Beckham Family servants were new, they all knew Hayden. Since Hayden had come numerous times, they naturally thought Hayden would be the future mistress of the house. So they treated her with immense respect.

After a while, the sound of a car engine was heard coming from the yard. The servant opened the door and Joseph led the children into the house. The children ran to Hayden as soon as they saw her.

“Mommy, Mr. Beckham said we’re having stew tonight.”

The food was laid out on the dining room table, steam rising from the boiling pork rib soup. The servants busied themselves with preparations and there was a warm atmosphere in the house.

Hayden raised his head to look at Joseph and his face flushed like a ripe tomato. He plucked up his courage and said, “I think I’ll take Stella now. We may not get a cab home if it gets too late.”

“I’ll take them back after dinner.” Joseph looked at her and slowly took off his jacket to give it to the maid. He changed his shoes and went into the house, it was as if nothing had happened for the evening.

Hayden always believed in not losing with dignity. When she saw that Joseph didn’t flinch, she too plucked up her courage and nodded her head.

It was just dinner. If he insisted on leaving, then it would look like he felt guilty about something. The children were the happiest when Hayden decided to stay.

The servants also exchanged glances as if they all knew the hidden message. Then, at the dining room table, Stella gave up the seat next to Noah and she climbed onto Joseph’s thigh.

Hayden gently scolded her, “Stella, go back to your seat.”

“The chair is too low, I can’t reach the table properly.” Stella said pouting.

Hayden was about to say something when Joseph interrupted her, “It’s okay, we’ll eat like this.”

After saying this, he hugged Stella and gently asked her what she wanted to eat. They were like a father and daughter eating together.

Hayden suddenly remembered the dream and his emotions stirred. How would Joseph react if he found out that the little girl in his arms was his daughter?
