Joseph felt more relieved after Magnus took Benjamin away. He looked at Hayden and said, âCome on, youâre not his mother. Magnus will take good care of him.â
Hayden came to, looked around the room, then rubbed his nose and smiled awkwardly, âItâs a habit. Benjamin is about the same age as Freddie. I miss my brother and thatâs why I felt like taking care of him. Maybe the others find it strange.â
It was better that she didnât mention Freddie, but once she did, Josephâs expression turned even darker.
âYou treat brothers and sisters like trash you can pick up anywhere?â Joseph sneered.
âTrash?â Hayden glared at him and demanded, âWhat trash? I accidentally hit Benjamin, how many times do I have to say it?â.
âSo, what about Freddie?â. Joseph glared at her and continued, âYou hit him too? You seem fearless, and to think you went to the underground fight club when you were fifteen.â
Hayden was stunned, âHow do you know?â.
From Josephâs tone, he had already thoroughly researched Freddieâs background. Joseph even found out that Freddie was an underground wrestler before he was adopted by the Downey Family.
âAre there very few people who knew that?â. Josephâs expression became rather stern and he continued, âHe wanted to become a celebrity, but his past was a liability and if he didnât clean up his act, who knows when it would resurface and deal him a severe blow.â
What he said sent a shiver down Haydenâs spine and he then realized that he hadnât contacted Freddie for a while after returning from the Maldives.
Hayden also let out a sigh of relief when he agreed to Josephâs suggestion to let Benjamin stay at the hotel. That night he packed Stellaâs luggage and planned to take her to the office the next day before sending her to Josephâs house after work.
âNoah!â Stella let go of Haydenâs hand and ran into the main lobby. Hayden looked over and saw Mark holding Noahâs hand, it looked like they had just arrived.
âAs soon as little Noah woke up, he insisted on seeing you, Miss Downey. Since today was a weekday, I figured you would be working and thatâs why I brought little Noah here.â
Mark looked over and saw Hayden pulling a childâs suitcase. His eyes lit up and he said, âThat must be little Stellaâs suitcase, Iâll put the suitcase in the car and then bring them together.â
It seemed that Joseph had informed his servants that Stella was coming to his house for a summer vacation.
Hayden didnât refuse and gave the luggage to Mark. With a child on each side, he led them into the reception room and arranged for someone to bring them fruit and snacks. Then he said tenderly, âI still have to work and canât stay with you. Play here and donât run, can you do that? Stella you must take care of Noah, OK?â.
Hearing this, Stella immediately jumped off the couch, waved and said, âI guarantee I will complete the mission.â
Hayden smiled warmly and left the reception room.
He could stay with the kids on a normal day, but today there was a filming party that would be arriving to stay at the hotel. He looked at the list of names and noticed that Violet was on the list. Therefore, he thought that today could be a complicated day and that he should not be distracted.
As soon as she arrived at the office, the phone rang to inform her that the group had arrived.
âMiss Downey, we shouldnât be so nervous. Isnât it said that Violet is Mr. Beckhamâs fiancée? Iâm sure she wouldnât make things difficult for us for Mr. Beckhamâs sake.â Jeff whispered to Hayden which elicited a withering look from her.
âWho told you sheâs Mr. Beckhamâs fiancée?â Hayden asked.
âEveryone said so, especially those tabloids.â Jeff replied.
Hayden was about to reproach him when several cars pulled up, attendants and security guards cordoned off fans before the celebrities entered the main lobby. All the fans remained outside the hotel.
âThe rooms are ready. This is our room attendant and she will take you to your rooms.â Hayden politely explained to the group leader, she was brief and concise.
Before the group leader could speak, a voice was heard, âMiss Downey, itâs been a long time since we last saw each other. So now you work here. Congratulations.â
Hayden looked up and saw Violet remove her sunglasses as she raised her chin arrogantly.
Hayden stayed in place and calmly replied, âThank you.â
âSince we are friends, I donât need to be brought up by the headwaiter, can I trouble you to escort me to my room so we can also chat on the way?â
Hayden agreed since he couldnât turn her down in front of so many people. He instructed the room steward to arrange for the rest of the film crew to check in and led Violet and her agent to the suite on the twelfth floor.
âAs per the previous request, the room temperature has been set at twenty-seven degrees Celsius. The humidifier has been running to ensure the humidity of the air in the room. The room was sprayed with your favorite perfumeâ¦â.
âItâs okay, I know youâre very capable.â Violet coldly interrupted Hayden, âYou donât have to prove to me how capable you are, Iâve experienced it personally. One trip to the Maldives and you were able to snatch someoneâs fiancé. Hayden, you really are capable!â.
The great hall of the suite echoed with Violetâs shrillness and Hayden could hear the anger in her voice. The outburst was entirely directed at her.
Hayden frowned and reflected for a moment before replying, âIâm sorry, Miss Kidman. I donât understand what you mean, I never intentionally affected your engagement and I never did it unintentionally either.â
âOh, stop it, do you take me for a fool? Donât play innocent and pure, who are you acting like this for, dare you say with a clear conscience that you have no feelings for Joseph?â
Violet was furious as she held these words for a long time. She was trying on her wedding dress when she received the call from Josephâs assistant. She almost fainted when she was informed that the wedding was off.
âI have seen many women like you. You act independent and strong while using work to get close to Joseph. Even us professional actors are no match for bitches like you.â
Hayden scowled as he endured Violetâs slurs. His gaze was icy and cold as he looked up and said, âMiss Kidman, you better watch what you say.â
She was responsible in her work and respectful of the guests, but that didnât mean she had to put up with all kinds of verbal expletives .
