Chapter 69
I kindly pointed her in the right direction. âIf you hope your child isnât illegitimate, go find Ryan and ask him to hurry up with the divorce, understood? Donât make a scene here. If you end up having a miscarriage, youâll lose one more bargaining chip to marry into the Frost family. See her out.â
Finally, I instructed her assistant.
Jessica was furious and probably thought I had a point, so she just left.
And the direction I pointed her in worked quite
effectively.
As for how I knew, in the afternoon, I received a call from Ryan.
âWhat did you say to her?â he asked as soon as I answered the call.
I paused and said, âI didnât say much, just that she urged me to divorce you and I told her to talk to you.â
His tone became colder. âYou didnât tell her to go die?!
Was she trying to exaggerate things?
I ãnât surprised that Jessica would do this. Softening my voice, I said, âI only said that because I was provoked. She called me a prostitute pretending to be virtuous, a disaster for my step-parents, and said Iâm shameless for clinging to other men and threatened to have someone beat me to deathâ¦â
After finishing, I recalled Jessicaâs words earlier.
I felt like I was stating the facts.
Compared to fabricating lies, I was just adding some color.
Ryan was momentarily stunned, his voice was as cold as ice.
I said, âYou should know her better than me.â
Did she tally rau that to you?â
There was silence on the other end of the line for a moment before he sighed. âSheâs been spoiled by my dad since childhood. Just donât argue with her.â
I smirked. âSure.â
It was typical for men to have two standards.
On the one hand, he questioned me because of Jessicaâs words, and on the other, he could ask me not to argue with her.
Why didnât he say that to Jessica?
Jane heard about this and was so angry in bed that her curses were like a string of firecrackers exploding
âBoth of them are crazy. Theyâre out of their goddamn minds!â
âAlright, alright. Youâre almost fainting, and you still have the spirit to curse?â I quickly handed her a cup of water to help her rehydrate.
After work that evening, I received a call from her. Nothing unusual, she was hospitalized for food poisoning.

When I arrived, she was lying alone in the hospital bed, receiving an IV, looking pitiful. I almost pitied her if it werenât for the snacks that other people in the ward had given her.
Being beautiful would make one popular wherever they went.
Jane glared at me with her beautiful eyes. âYou heartless bitch. Wasnât I standing up for you?â
âIâm not actually upset.â
After what happened during the past couple of days, I had gotten used to it.
Jane peeled an orange to toss into her mouth, which I snatched away. âThe doctor said you that you canât eat too much cold food.â
She watched helplessly as I ate the orange. âWhose seed is Jessica carrying in her belly?â
âNot Ryanâs.â
What Ryan said to me in the car last night didnât sound like a lie.
And if Jessica really was pregnant with the Frost familyâs child, she wouldnât just cause trouble for me She would cause trouble for the Frost family, at least to my father-inâlaw. Considering his favoritism towards her, he would fight for her status, even if it meant angering Grandpa.
I heard that my fatherâinâlaw only cared about Jessica,
Compared to Jessica, Ryan seemed more like a burden.
His mother was gone and his father didnât love him at all.
âThatâs good.â Jane lay back in bed, holding her stomach. âI suppose so. Even if Ryan loves her dearly, he wouldnât be foolish enough to rush into fatherhood.â
However, she didnât anticipate that within a couple of days, her words would be contradicted.
