Chapter 68
I couldnât help but laugh.
Ryan was going to take responsibility for her.
What did she want from me?
She should be going to Ryan.
Jessica touched her belly. âYou need to finalize your divorce quickly, or itâll delay getting my child registered.â
âThen you should go tell Ryan to hurry up.â
The companyâs headquarters had constant temperatureâcontrolled air conditioning throughout the year. I took off my coat, hung it up, and picked up a spray bottle to water the row of plants in front of the French windows.
Since Ryan refused to draw clear boundaries, I wasnât in a hurry either.
I could just let Jessica make a fuss.
Jessica sneered coldly. âDonât play this game of pretending to be indifferent while clinging to Ryan. I can actually understand you. Being an orphan, with no parents, grabbing onto the Frost family tree that ensures your comfort, you donât want to let go. Itâs human nature. But Charlotte, as a woman, you know when to feel shameful.â
She crossed her arms whilst laughing. âDonât cling so desperately to a man like this, itâs embarrassing if it gets out.â
I furrowed my brows. âWeâve met more than once, why are you still introducing yourself?â
Jessica was taken aback by my response. She snorted and got up to approach me.
âDonât think having that you can act recklessly just because the old man favors you. Youâre just waiting until after his 80th birthday. I wonder what excuse youâll have then not to divorce Ryan.â
âAre you done?â
âWhat?â
âLeave if youâre done talking.â
I pointed towards the door of the office.
She gritted her teeth. âDonât rush me. Donât you want to participate in the MS joint design competition?â âThere are only two slots. Are you being so kind?â
âOf course.â She lifted her chin as if bestowing a favor One for me, one for you. How about that?â
I thought she was deliberately teasing me, then saw her wave outside.
Her assistant brought in a document.
She handed it to me. âHere are the requirements for the MS joint design competition. Take a look. The deadline is next Friday. Send your design to my email by Wednesday.â

I took itâand flipped through it. âIt says here that I should send my design to the MS Groupâs email.â
For some reason, I didnât feel at ease giving her my design for the competition. Perhaps because we were already standing on opposing sides, I couldnât help but be cautious.
Jessicaâs expression flashed with a hint of unease, then suddenly she smiled disdainfully. âDo you think! want to plagiarize your design? Thatâs ridiculous. Have you ever heard of someone picking on someone less skilled than themselves to copy? A director copying a vice director, youâre really imaginative!â
âFine, if you want to send it directly to MS, go ahead, itâs up to you,â she said.
âThen, I wonât be seeing you out the door.â
I raised my lips, dismissing her once more.
Jessica remained unmoved, staring at me intently. âArenât you curious who the father of my child is?â
âCould it be mine?â I smiled ambiguously.
âWhat nonsense are you talking about?â
âSince itâs not mine, why should I be curious?â
âItâs Ryanâs. Iâm carrying his child. Itâs the offspring of our 10âyear relationship.â
She was quite proud, her slender fingers occasionally touching her flat belly.
âAlright, noted.â
âWhatâs with your attitude?â
âWhat attitude do you want me to have towards an illegitimate child?â
I tossed the document onto the desk and gave her a puzzled look. âAll affluent families would have a few illegitimate children. Itâs quite normal. Youâre making a big deal out of nothing.â
She glared angrily. âIllegitimate child? You call the child between Ryan and me illegitimate? Charlotte, youâd better watch your words. Once I marry into the Frost family, itâll be effortless for me to deal with you.
