Chapter 411
Danny was the first to react, sliding off the sofa with agility and running to open the door, âUn⦠Thank you, sir!â
The takeaway I ordered had arrived.
I went over to take it, closed the door again, and patted Dannyâs little head. âDo you miss your uncle?â
âUh⦠No.â Danny shook his head. âI donât miss him. I just want to be with you. Charlotte, can I sleep with you tonight?â
âOnly if your uncle agrees.â I took his hand and led him to the dining area, then turned to Jack. âJack, I ordered from a local restaurant in Jelaston. Come and try it.â
âAlright.â Jack was not picky and would eat anything.
As he moved to sit next to me, Danny climbed onto a chair from behind him, patted his waist, and said cutely, âSir, can you sit on the other side? I want to sit next to Charlotte.â
Jack looked down at him, pinched his cheek, and said, âOkay.â
The meal, consisted of five dishes and the atmosphere was quite
relaxed.
Danny was very wellâbehaved. Given a spoon, he could manage his small plate of food on his own. When he needed help with vegetables, he would call me.
âCharlotte, what about Uncleâs dinner?â As we were eating, the little one. suddenly remembered something and looked at me with big, puzzled eyes. âUncle is so pitiful. He canât cook for himselfâ¦â
âHe can also order takeaway.â I chuckled and tried to guide him. âAnd since we have a guest at home, we should take care of the guest first,

right?â
âThatâs true. Uncle is family!â Danny happily waved his little spoon. âWe donât need to worry about him!â
Jack looked startled for a moment, âYou and Frank⦠are together?â
âNo.â I smiled and explained, âHe just lives in the sar building.â
Jack nodded thoughtfully and smiled. âSo youâre very close now. It seems like heâs going to make the most of his proximity.â
âJackâ¦
I was about to say something when the doorbell rang again.
Danny, wiggling his bottom, was about to go open the door, but I pressed him back down. âYou stay here and eat properly. I will go.â
It should be Frank coming to pick up Danny after his meeting.
I got up to open the door and, sure enough, faced a pair of slightly displeased and scrutinizing brown eyes.
Frank leaned on his wheelchair, looking up at me. âPush me inside.â
âCanât you do it yourselfâ¦â
His wheelchair was electric.
Frank yawned and said nonchalantly, âIâve hurt my hands.â
âAlright.â I walked around behind him and pushed him in. âDanny is still eating. Do you want to joinâ¦â
âYes.â He spoke with an ambiguous tone, âIâm already hungry. I thought you would call me for dinner.â
There was a hint of reproach.
As if I were some heartless person who didnât even call him for a meal.

I sighed. âYou were the one who said you had a meetingâ¦â
He slightly curved his lips. âSo you thought of calling me?â
âThat did cross my mind,â I answered honestly.
A smile appeared in his eyes, and Danny, sitting at the table with his short legs dangling, said brightly, âUncle, you fina, came!â
âYes,â Frank responded indifferently, and I noticed Danny quickly jumping down from his chair, struggling to pull it out to make space for him.
Danny said cheerfully, âUncle, sit here so that youâre next to Charlotte!â
Jack cocked his brows but didnât say anything.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Frank took his time serving himself. âThis should be the place we went to before, right?â
âWell, the taste doesnât seem to be affected by the delivery.â
It was still quite good.
Frank nodded. âItâs quite good, suitable for entertaining guests.â
Jack pursed his lips. âMr. Smith, does the Smith family approve of you marrying Charlotte?â
âThe Smith family?â Frank smiled with mockery, but his words became cold. âDo you think I have to consider the familyâs opinions like you?â
Jackâs expression remained calm. âIf you didnât have to consider the familyâs opinion, your legs wouldnât be in this state now, would they?â
âJack!â I suddenly stopped him. âHis legs arenât as serious as you think. They will get better eventually.â
Jack looked somewhat helpless. âCharlotte, if it werenât serious, why would he still be in a wheelchair after two yearsâ¦â
âYes.â Frank smiled indifferently, showing no intention of rebutting, and said lazily, âBut Jack, your legs are fine, and yet she hasnât chosen you. Friends should have boundaries and not interfere too much.â
Jack clenched his cutlery tighter, turning white at the tips. âFrank, do you know what the biggest difference between you and me is?â
Frank said nothing, just slightly raised his chin, indicating for him to continue.
Jack put down his cutlery, adjusted his shirt cuffs, stood up, and looked at Frank with a cold yet firm expression. âThe person who is always by Charlotteâs side when she needs the most is me.â
âJust based on that, donât think about interfering in my relationship with her.â
After Jack finished speaking, he turned to me and said gently, âEnjoy your meal. I need to get back to Jelaston. Iâve got to go now.â
âJackâ¦â
I got up to see him to the elevator.
A large hand grasped my wrist, clearly indicating disapproval.
I looked at Frank and explained softly, âIâm just seeing Jack off. Iâll be back soon.â
âNo, youâre not going.â
