Chapter 395
Jane curiously leaned over. âWhatâs up? Whose message is it?â
I locked the screen. âItâs from Frank.â
âFrank? What does he want? Is he still sulking about how things went down at the restaurant tonight? Does he feel he didnât perform well?â
âNo.â I spoke a bit awkwardly, âHeâs legs are aching, probably a lingering issue from the explosion. I need to check on him.â
Jane glared at me in frustration. âJust now, I was asking if youâd prioritize romance over friendship in the future, and now it seems youâre prioritizing romance already?â
I fawned over her, massaging her shoulders. âJane, how could I prioritize romance over friendship? Iâm just going to check on him. What would you like to eat? Iâll bring back some lateânight snacks for y
you.â
âWell, he has a girlfriend, doesnât he? Whatâs your excuse for visiting him?â
âItâs not his girlfriend.â
touched my ear. âSheâs his cousin.â
âAlright, alright, go on.â
Jane sighed in relief and cheerfully pushed me out the door.
On the way to Jelaston Summit, as we approached the garage, the security guard stopped me.
He said that the property management had implemented a new rule that outside vehicles were not allowed in.
I tried calling Frank, but no one answered.
I had no choice but to leave my car by the roadside, borrow an umbrella from the security guard, and walk into the neighborhood.
Despite the torrential summer rain, my high heels were soaked, and my long dress was clinging to my legs.
Even though it was summer, the cold air in the elevator gave me a shiver.
Ding Dong-
Standing in front of Frankâs door, I pressed the doorbell
After a short while, the door opened. Frank, in a black Tâshirt and olive green cargo shorts, was sitting in a wheelchair.
Under the bright light, he looked weary, and his voice was flat.
âMrs. Frost, visiting a manâs home late at night, wonât it be hard to explain if someone asks?â
I was taken aback. âWasnât it you who sent me the message?â
âI sent you a message?â

He seemed to find it amusing, his lips curving into a cold, mocking smile. âDo you still think itâs like two years ago, when I was your obedient pet, ready to come and go as you please?â
I lowered my gaze. âThen letâs just assume there was a bug with WhatsApp.â
There was a brief pause in our conversation. After hesitating for a moment, I continued, âIf your legs are
achingâ¦
âDonât worry.â He coldly and dismissively interrupted. âEven if Iâm in agony, I donât need someone elseâs wife to take care of me.â
âUm⦠I mean, if your legs are hurting, just massage them yourself. Iâll be going now.â
As I turned to leave, he looked increasingly cold and raised his hand to close the door.
But seeing me drenched, he frowned in displeasure and snorted. âCome in and change. If you catch cold, Mr. Frost will come looking for me.â
âItâs okayâ¦â
âCharlotte, are you used to me begging you and trying to please you? Canât you just listen to a normal conversation?â He rarely spoke so forcefully.
I clenched my fists, remained silent, and stepped inside as he maneuvered the wheelchair to make way.
âYour slippers are on the top shelf,â he said lightly, then maneuvered his wheelchair to the living room.
I opened the shoe cabinet and found a pair of slippers on the top shelfâexactly the ones I had worn when I visited two years ago.
There was only one pair of shoes on that shelf.
Frank watched me from a distance, his expression icy. You can find clothes in Alanaâs room. Pick whatever you like. She wonât mind.â
âThere are clean towels in the bathroom,â he added.
âOkay, got it.â I nodded in acknowledgement.
Having been here before, I still remembered the layout. Five rooms and two living areas. One bedroom was his, one was the study where I had once broken a piggy bank, and one was an eSports room.
The two guest rooms were occupied by Megan and Alana, respectively.
I didnât search too carefully. I simply picked a dark green spaghetti strap dress and got changed in the bathroom.
I carried my wet clothes out and found him working on his laptop in the study.
stood at the door, hesitated briefly, and said, âPlease let Alana know that Iâll wash the clothes and return them later.â
He didnât even glance my way, merely responding with a terse, âOkay
âIâm leaving now. Sorry for the inconvenience.â
âOkay.â

I was about to leave when I suddenly saw him bending down as if trying to massage his calf. He seemed to struggle a bit, as if his legs couldnât support him properly.
âIâll give you a massage.â I walked over. âIâve learned some massage techniques over the past two years. My skills are pretty good. Want to try?â
This situation was somewhat ironic.
After arriving in Frankes, there was an old lady from Cheria next door. She was an expert in traditional medicine and acupuncture.
She was very kind to me and would always bring me a portion of whatever delicious food she made.
Once, when I had a sore neck, she gave me two massages that had immediate effects.
She even asked if I wanted to learn her skills.
Frank sneered and taunted, âPlaying the dutiful wife and mother so diligently?â
I halfâsquatted down and placed my hands on his calf muscles, adjusting my technique to apply moderate pressure.
After nearly two years of learning, I hadnât expected to put it into practice like this.
As I massaged, I asked cautiously, âWhat did the doctor say about your legs? Is there still a chance your might stand up?â
âStand up?â Frank seemed momentarily stunned, then shifted the topic, his words harsh. âYour technique is quite good. Itâs clear youâve done this for others before.â
Seeing he didnât want to elaborate, I took it as an implicit admission and didnât press further. I followed up with, âIâve only massaged Dilan before.â
âDilan?â
âYeah.â
I nodded, looking up at him with a smile. âDilan is a big dog I raised. Heâs very wellâbehaved. He never bites when I massage him.â
Frank squinted his eyes. âWhat do you mean? Are you comparing me to a dog?â
âNo, youâre much better than a dog.â
âCharlotte.â
He had a complicated look on his face before he finally laughed angrily. âIs this how you talk to Mr. Frost
as well?
âWeâre divorced.â I lowered my gaze, pressing my fingers firmly into his leg as I repeated, âFrank, Iâm divorced.â
