Jelaston wasnât a big place. When I decided to return to the country, I had already prepared myself for the possibility of running into him again. I just didnât expect it to be so soon.
As I quickly withdrew my hand, I heard Yasmin said in surprise, âMrs. Frost?â
âYes.â
âSheâs the exâwife.â
Ryan and I spoke almost simultaneously.
I suppressed my irritation, looked at Yasmin, and smiled faintly. âMs. Jackson, youâre busy. Weâll take our leave now,â
âYes, Ms. Jackson, if you need anything, feel free to call me,â Jane also said politely.
As we were leaving. I vaguely heard Yasminâs voice behind us. âMr. Frost, it looks like your exâwife doesnât seem to like you.â
Just as we were about to leave the hotel, a black Continental drove away from the car park.
I instinctively ran outside and saw a license plate that looked somewhat familiar.
Jane chased after me. âWhatâs wrong? Why are you running so fast? Did you see a ghost?â
âItâs not that.â I pointed to the Continental that had already merged into the traffic. âI saw that car at the care home the other day.â
âSo, Frank has come to Jelaston?â asked Jane.
âProbably.â
I handed her the car keys. âYou head back first. I want to check Jelaston Summit.â
Two years had passed, and his death was known to everyone. It was highly unlikely he would still be living in that place. But I still wanted to check that place out,
âIâll go with you.â Jane pulled me back, not letting me getting into the taxi alone.
When we arrived at Jelaston Summit, she stayed in the car while I went to the basement.
She said with a smile, âIf he really still lives here, itâs better for me not to show up at such a reunion. Go check it out, and call me if thereâs any news.â
âAlright.â I nodded.
Once in the elevator, I pressed the familiar floor number. Watching the floor numbers light up one by one, I felt unusually nervous.
Just like Jane said, what would happen if I see him?
What should I say, and what could I say?
Back then, I thought I was making the right choice by giving up.

Ding-
Reaching the floor, I stepped out and stood at the door of the place he had often leaned against with an almost casual attitude.
I squeezed my palms and then pressed the doorbell.
I was prepared for no one to be home.
But unexpectedly, the door opened quickly, revealing a mature and charming woman.
With long wavy hair and delicate makeup, she cocked her brows when she saw me. âWho are you?â
âLâ¦ââ
I was momentarily stunned, then smiled awkwardly. âSorry, I might have got the wrong door number.â
âItâs alright.â
She was quite easygoing and seemed a bit curious about me.
It wasnât until I turned and went back into the elevator that she closed the door.
Inside the living room, Frank was sitting on the sofa with a blanket over his legs. He was handling.
business on a tablet while casting a gloomy glance at her. âHave you seen enough?â
âNot quite.â
She went and sat on a sofa and said, âI want to find an opportunity to get to know her better, to see what kind of woman could make you so devoted all these years.â
Frank smirked and said coldly, âStop causing trouble for her.â
âEven now, youâre still defending her?â
She crossed her long, straight legs and continued, âShe betrayed you back then, yet for the past two years that youâve been âdead,â it hasnât stopped her from being Mrs. Frost. Even when Megan called her, it was Ryan who answered.â
âAlana, shut your mouth if you have nothing else to say
âDid I say something wrong?â
Frank glanced at her. âWhether itâs right or wrong doesnât matter. It makes my heart ache, and I donât want
to hear it.â
âSo, what are you planning to do now? Just continue being âdeadâ?â she asked.
