Chapter 38
Her words almost caused me to explode with anger.
Ryan had spoiled her so much that she had no shame whatsoever.
I curved my lips into a sneer and said, âAre you a member of the Frost family? Last time I remember, your dad had to beg Grandpa to allow you to have Frost as your surname. I donât think youâre accepted into the Frost family since Grandpa hasnât given the word yet. According to you, then I have more reason to say that this car belongs to me, because I am Ryanâs lawfully wedded wife.â
I spoke deliberately, watching her expression change bit by bit, and a sense of satisfaction surged within
Jessica gritted her teeth. âThe two of you are getting divorced soon!â
âBut weâre not divorced just yet, are we? As long as weâre still married, I have more right to claim ownership of this car than you.â I smirked.
âYou have no shame!â She was furious as she glared at me fiercely. âIf youâre going to divorce him then do it already! Why the hell are you still married to Ryan then?â
âThatâs a question that youâll have to ask himâ
âWhat do you mean?â
She seemed to have heard something unbelievable. A disdainful look appeared on her face. âAre you telling me that itâs Ryan whoâs delaying the divorce?â
I sneered. âWhy donât you ask him? Who was it that came to me drunk last nightâ¦â
Slap!
Her eyes widened and she could no longer hide her jealousy anymore. She raised her hand and slapped me in the face. I didnât expect Jessica to slap me at that moment. The force caused me to tilt my head and my face was burning.
All the employees of the Frost Group around us were shocked to see such a scene.
I lost my temper as well, so I raised my hand and was about to slap Jessica back, but a large hand grabbed hold of my wrist.
Ryan appeared with a dark face and asked in a serious voice, âCharlotte, since when did you start having a habit of slapping people?â
After hearing those words, he swung my hand to one side.
My sprained ankle hadnât fully recovered yet, so I stumbled a little and my back collided with the car. I then groaned in pain.
It was a good thing that it wasnât my belly that collided with the car!
I was taken aback and looked at Ryan in disbeliefâ¦
That was when I saw him looking worriedly at Jessica âAre you okay?â
fine It was a good thing that you got here in timeâ Jessicaâs eyes turned red and tears welled up in
them. This made her look weak and pitiful.

After hearing those words, Ryanâs voice turned cold again. âI told you not to provoke her. Donât when to listenâ
you
know
âI didnât want to provoke her. I just wanted to hitch a ride back to the residence in her car. You know Iâm a new driver and can be a little scared if I drive alone.â
Her tone carried a hint of defiance as if she were the rightful owner of this car.
âWhy did you buy this car if you werenât going to drive it then?â Ryan said with a serious voice, but still decided to dote on her. âGet in my car.â
âOkay,â Jessica said in a soft voice. She then reached out and asked Ryan to give her the car keys. âIâll wait for you in the car.â
When she walked past me, she looked me provokingly.
The onlookers gossiped among themselves. I could hear some of their comments clearly.
âIt looks like the new director of the design department is the real Mrs. Frost.â
âYes, she even dared to slap Ms. Wilson and Mr. Frost is on her side as well.â
âIsnât that obvious? Who would you protect, your wife or an outsider?â
âYou have a point. I feel sorry for Ms. Wilson though. I wonder how she managed to offend Mrs. Frostâ¦
I paid no attention to the gossip and just looked at Ryan indifferently.
Finally, he turned his head lazily to look at me. His eyes were dark and cold. âShe just wanted to hitch a ride. Did you have to resort to violence?â
My heart ached. I blinked my eyes to force myself to remain calm. I walked up to him, straightened my back and showed him the side of my face that was still burning from the slap.
I didnât need a mirror to know that there was a mark on my face. If he gave me a closer look then he would realize that I was merely swapping an eye for an eye.
But he didnât. All his attention was on Jessica.
I was so disappointed that I could barely breathe. âRyan, take a closer look. Sheâs the one that slapped me first.â
Only then did he notice the red mark on my face. He furrowed his brows and asked, âWhy didnât you say something just now? Does it hurt?â
