Chapter 320
While she chatted with Frank, I was on the side hanging up and carefully ironing the clothes I had made
for her.
âCharlotte!â
Madam Shaw pretended to be unhappy and pulled me onto the sofa. âThese things are for the servants to do. You should just sit down, have some tea, and keep me company. Why do you have to do everything yourself?â
I chuckled. âThis is part of my job.â
âYou silly.â Madam Shaw held my hand and looked at Frank. âYou just said you plan to have Charlotte help you fool your parents?â
Frank and Madam Shaw had a deep relationship and spoke openly to each other. âYes.â
Madam Shaw looked at me with concern. âHeâs not pressuring you, is he?â
âGrandma, what do you take me for?â said Frank, half laughing, half exasperated.
smiled and added. âNo, I have something to ask of him too.â
Madam Shaw didnât press further but made a point of dissatisfaction.
âLily⦠may not come back.â
Madam Shaw held back her tears and, with an elderâs demeanor, addressed Frank, âWhether you and Charlotte are real or just pretending, Iâm happy with it. But one thing, even if itâs an act, itâs not right to stay at the Smith familyâs residence when meeting the parents for the first time.â
âShe should stay in my house these days. Every night before ten, bring her back to me.â
âGrandmaâ¦â
I felt a warmth in my heart.
Madam Shaw patted my hand and looked at me seriously. âYouâre a girl all alone, and itâs not easy. Since Iâve asked you to call me Grandma, Iâll be your support from now on. Are you willing to accept my help?â
Even Frank was slightly taken aback by this.
His expression momentarily turned cold.
I knew he felt unfairly for Lily.
Bethany had replaced Lily and now Madam Shaw wanted to use me as a substitute after all these yearsâ¦
So, I almost instinctively wanted to shake my head, but Frankâs expression softened and said, âHave it
randmaâs way.â
I wasnât sure of his intention.
After lunch at the Shaw familyâs place, when no one was around, I tried to explain. âI didnât expect Grandma to suddenly say thatâ¦â

Frank looked at me with a puzzled expression. âCharlotte, why do you always explain first when
something happens? The mistake can be mine or Grandmaâs, but itâs never yours. Why do you need to explain?â
âIâ¦â
I didnât know.
Maybe the Shaw familyâs high status made people inadvertently think there were ulterior motives.
I had been overly cautious.
Frank abruptly stood up and walked out. Halfway there, he turned around, grabbed my hand, and led me out of the dining room, taking me into the courtyard from before.
Lilyâs courtyard!
He released my hand, pushed open the door, and looked at the furnishings inside. After a long while, he said, âI donât blame Grandma, because I often feel like youâre her. If it werenât for Grandmaâs frail health being unable to withstand great joy or sorrow, I might have even thought about dragging you both for a paternity test.â
I bit my lip. âHavenât you already checked?â
When Bob made me doubt my origins before, Jack had also investigated for me.
I had always been Charlotte, not Lily.
Frank looked at me, smiling wryly. âIsnât it ironic? Reality tells me youâre not her, but I subconsciously want to be close to you.â
He closed his eyes, a look of pain crossing his face as he struggled with inner conflict. âSometimes I feel like Iâm betraying her.â
