Chapter 316
He chuckled. âDoes the holidays begin the day after tomorrow?â
âYes.â
He then said abruptly, âThen weâll leave for Jeswood at seven oâclock in the morning the day after tomorrow.â
I looked at him. âArenât you supposed to help me deal with Ryan first?â
He cocked his brows and said with a sense of entitlement, âNow youâre asking me to cooperate. Shouldnât you show me your sincerity first?â
Every businessman had their tricks.
Ryan was like that, and so was Frank.
Realizing something, I preemptively gave him a warning. âI can put on an act and deal with your parents. However, Iâm a divorcee, so they probably wonât accept meâ¦â
Frank didnât take it to heart. âThatâs my problem.â
The elevator reached the designated floor, and I took a deep breath. âAlright, I agree.â
As soon as the words were out, the door opened.
We went our separate ways, but as soon as I stepped out, I was a bit surprised to see Jack standing at the
door.
I couldnât believe the Renolds family would allow him to visit me.
Frank glanced at us and continued his way without pausing, unlocking the door, entering, and closing it
without hesitation.
Outside, the only sound was the howling wind of the winter night.
With Jenniferâs warning in mind, I felt a bit uneasy. âJack, what are you doing here?â
Jack glanced at Frankâs door and asked in return, âWhy are you with him again?â
âWe ran into each other downstairs,â I didnât think much of it and answered casually.
He relaxed slightly and smiled gently. âI think I just heard you say you agreed to something with him?â
âYes.â
He was good friends with Tom, and Tom was close to Ryan. I was afraid it might reach Ryanâs ears, so I chose to say only part of the story.
agreed to something personal with him.â
Jackâs brows furrowed slightly, and then he seemed to ask casually, âAre you still comfortable living here, or would you like to move somewhere else?â
âItâs fineâ¦â I answered instinctively, but then realized something and changed the topic. âIs my staying here causing you any trouble? If so, I can move out immediately.â

I could stay with Jane anytime.
we?â
Jack was surprised by my reaction, and then, realizing something, his expression darkened slightly, âHas someone from the Renolds family contacted you?â
âYes.â I nodded honestly. âBut they didnât say anything unpleasant.â
I then lowered my head slightly and took the opportunity to clarify. âJack, letâs remain friends, now and in the future.â
Just as Jennifer had said, if I couldnât help Jack, it would only cause him more trouble.
Jack asked sternly, âWhat exactly did they say to you?â
âThey didnât say much.â
âWas it because of him, or because of Ryan?â
When he mentioned âhim,â Jackâs gaze shifted to Frankâs door.
I couldnât understand why he doubted my relationship with Frank more than with Ryan.
But right now, I truly had no interest in either.
I couldnât go back to Ryan, and I had no intention of elevating myself with Frank.
I just wanted to quietly manage the the Charlotte Jewelry my parents left behind.
I shook my head. âNeither.â
âCharlotteâ¦â
Jack looked at me with a dark expression, his eyes filled with a mixture of emotions. âCan we really only be friends?â
I lowered my head. âYes, Iâm sorry.â
âYou silly, itâs alright. Iâve said it before, as long as youâre happy.â
He suddenly reached out and touched my head. âThen letâs⦠just be friends!â
âOuch..â
As he spoke, I felt an unexpected pain on my scalp, and I looked up at him abruptly.
A fleeting emotion crossed his face, but his gaze remained as gentle as ever. He said softly, âDid I hurt you? Iâm sorry, my cufflink accidentally caught your hair.â
