Chapter 27
âDo you really want to thank me?â Jack walked to the car, pushed Tom into the back seat, leaned against the car, and looked at me with a smile and lowered eyes.
I nodded. âOf course.â
âThen promise me, donât always say thank youâ to me in the future.â This remark had a slightly unusual flavor. Before I could figure out what he meant, he added with a smile, âIt makes things too formal.â
I chuckled. âAlright, got it.â
He got into the car as well and then said, âIâm leaving, you should ad back upstairs now.â
When I went upstairs, the living room was empty. Ryan wasnât there. I felt my heart sank for a moment. But just for a moment. Leaving silently was his style. It was probably another âurgent matterâ from Jessicaâs side.
Back in the bedroom, I gently patted Jane. âJane, wake up. Iâll help you change into pajamas so you can sleep more comfortably,â
âMm.â Jane moaned slightly, and upon seeing me, she reached out to hug me, letting me take off her top. She then murmured, âCharlotte. youâre the best, no one is allowed to bully youâ¦â
âSilly girl,â I couldnât help but laugh.
The next day, when I woke up, Jane wasnât in bed. I heard faint noises coming from the living room. I walked to the door with sleepy eyes and saw Jane doing yoga.
Seeing me up, she maintained her pose and raised her chin smugly. âDo I look good?â
âYou look fantastic.â I couldnât help but smile.
She was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. The kind that would take
oneâs breath away at first sight, the kind that would make one exclaim Now, wearing yoga clothes, her figure was even more stunning.
Jane nodded in satisfaction. âOf course, itâs because you have good taste, Charlotte
I chuckled and went into the bathroom to freshen up. While doing my makeup, Jane finished her yoga and ran in, staring at my empty ears. Where are the earrings from last night?â
âIn the drawer.âI was drawing my eyebrows and casually pointed to
their location.
She took them out, put them on my ears, and said. âThese ruby earrings. suit your temperament perfectly.â
âWhat temperament do I have?â I asked with a smile.
âWell⦠calm and confident, gentle and graceful.
I stared at her slightly upturned foxâlike eyes and clicked my tongue twice. âWith you praising me like that, Iâm afraid that I might fall in love with you.â
âIf I can help you get over Ryan, I donât mind being a lesbian.â She chuckled.
âItâs not that serious.â I couldnât help but laugh. When I raised my hand to take off the earrings, she stopped me and said admiringly, âDonât take them off, they look so good on you!â
âAlright, Iâll listen to you.â Anyway, my hair would cover them when I let them hang down naturally. They were too expensive, and I was afraid someone might snatch them.
After arriving at work, Jane and I parted ways in the elevator. I headed straight to the Design Department. To my surprise, before the computer could even boot up, an unexpected visitor pushed the door open.
In the entire Design Department, actually, in the entire company, there was only one person with such good manners, and that was Jessica.

âWas Ryan with you last night?â
I leaned back in my chair, giving her a meaningful look. âYou should know better than me where he was last night, shouldnât you?â
âWasnât she the one who called him away last night?â I wondered.
âStop pretending, Charlotte. You donât really want a divorce, do you?â Jessica closed the door, still with a gentle expression, but there was a trace of ruthlessness in her eyes. âDonât you know why Ryan married you? Do you really think heâs that obedient and would do anything his grandfather told him to?â
