Chapter 217

I pondered deeply, trying to simplify the complicated mess of relationships and explain it to Jane in the simplest way possible.
In the end, it was a failure.
I gave up thinking and just started tidying up while explaining everything to Jane clearly and
straightforwardly.
Finally, she understood.
She summarized with a question, âSo heâs Ryanâs future brotherâinâlaw?â
I was stunned, unable to decide whether to laugh or cry. âWho else can keep up with your quick thinking?â
Aunt Laura must have come early to clean up the house, leaving it spotless.
After organizing our belongings, we collapsed on the sofa.
Jane glanced at me. âDidnât you say you had something important to discuss with me? What is it?â
I handed her the documents that Jack had given me. âI want to start my own business. Are you interested in joining?â
âOf course!â Her eyes lit up with excitement.
I chuckled. âSo, when you told me about quitting at the hospital last time and said you had plans, were you lying to me?â
âIsnât your plan more to my liking?â Jane said with a smile, looking through the documents. After hearing about the Charlotte Jewelryâs background from me, she became more serious. âSo when are you planning to start?â
I smirked. âRight now.â
Some things, once you decide to do them, couldnât be postponed even for a day.
Janeâs personality is even more energetic than mine. As soon as she heard, she clapped her hands in agreement.
After lunch, we started discussing various matters.
She was in charge of choosing the office and deciding on the companyâs location, while I took care of preliminary preparations.
After a rough estimate, selling the apartment at the Lake Garden would provide more than enough initial capital.
The next day, I contacted the real estate agency to list the the Lake Garden apartment.
Late at night, Ryan called with an unpleasant tone. âAre you selling the house?â
âYes.â

âYouâre not allowed to do that.â
His voice was authoritative.
I lifted my head from work and stretched my neck. âWhy not? If I remember correctly, the apartment is
in my name, and the divorce agreement clearly states it belongs to me.â
He sneered and questioned, âWhere did you move to?â
I fell silent for a moment and replied calmly, âThatâs none of your concern.â
âIs Jackâs house more comfortable for you than the one I gave you?â
His voice was indifferent but unsettling.
Furrowing my brows, I said firmly, âAre you still having someone follow me?â
Once knowing my whereabouts could be coincidence.
Twice would be unacceptable.
On the other end of the line, he seemed to sigh lightly and softened his tone as if trying to coax me. Come out and open the door for me.â
This was what I had once eagerly awaited. He would coax me as if we were just an ordinary couple and be nice to me.

But now, my heart wasnât moved at all. I peeked through the peephole and indeed saw his flawless. facial features, slightly drooping with weariness.
I supposed he was busy with company matters and issues with Lauren.
He was playing the role of a domineering CEO and a filial son.
I pursed my lips. âYou should go back. Ryan, since the apartment was given to me, I should have the final say.â
There was a crisp âclickâ outside the door, like the sound of a lighter. âNeed money?â
âYes.â
âHow muc
âItâs hard to say, but selling the apartment will suffice for now.â
Ryanâs voice lowered huskily. âDonât sell the house. Iâll transfer the money to you now.â
I suddenly opened the door. All the words I had wanted to vent vanished when I met his crimson eyes.
He looked less spirited than usual.
Perhaps he knew I disliked the smell of smoke. He extinguished his cigarette. His dark eyes stared straight at me. âCan come in?â
