âOne really couldnât avoid their enemies.â The first word that came to mind when I turned around and saw Frankâs bright handsome face.
Jack also glanced at him, furrowing his brows slightly. âYou live here, Mr. Frank?â
That was exactly the question I wanted to ask.
With his background, he could have chosen any villa district casually. How could he be living in a place like this, with its humble atmosphere?
Frank smiled casually. âKeeping someone company.â
âKeeping someone company? Wasnât he earnestly searching for a young fiancee? How did he end up with a child already? But then again, in wealthy families like theirs, it was common to have a couple of illegitimate children making an appearance.â
Jack smiled and exchanged a few pleasantries with Frank, then brought his luggage from the elevator lobby and carried it into his apartment.
Watching him prepare to continue helping me unpack, I quickly waved my hands. âJack, no need. Jane will be here soon to help me. You should go focus on your own work.â
He had just returned to the Renolds family, and with Sally causing trouble, he must be overwhelmed.
âAlright.â Jack glanced at the time and didnât insist further, but asked with concern, âSo, are you
satisfied with this house?â
âOf course, more than satisfied.â
Most of the appliances were already there, I just needed to add some daily necessities.
âThatâs good then. Iâll send you the password to the door on WhatsApp, and you can change it whenever you want.â
His gaze softened. âIâll take my leave now. Call me anytime if you need help.â
âOkay.â
I agreed and saw him off into the elevator. Once the doors closed, I turned and headed back to my new home.
âRunning away from trouble?â
Frank, looking like he had just woken up, had wandered around his own apartment and was leaning against the doorway with a cup of water, lazily asking.
I looked at him with no good humor, âAsking the obvious. Hurry up and manage your sister. Donât let her harm innocent people.â
With the relationship between the Smith and Shaw families, he and Bethany should get along well.
But then again, they were practically siblings, how could they not? When he finally finds the lost young

lady of the Shaw family and fulfill the engagement, he would be Bethanyâs brotherâinâlaw.
I inevitably treated them as one family and felt somewhat irritable.
Frankâs eyes curved slightly, clicking his tongue. âDonât do what the elders do to me. Donât give me a sister out of nowhere. I donât like people saying that Iâm their brother if theyâre not related to me by blood.â
I nodded, feigning surprise. âI didnât expect you to have principles.â
It was really sarcastic.
That day at the Renolds familyâs residence, he was obviously quite intimate with Bethany.
The way they bantered back and forth was reminiscent of the old days with Ryan and Jessica.
âCharlotte.â He suddenly smirked, his lips quirking up mischievously. âAre you going to keep your promise from that day?â
I frowned. âWhat promise?â
He pressed on. âForgot?â
Caught off guard by Frankâs teasing gaze, I suddenly rememberedâit was that day at the Renolds familyâs residence when he caught me off guard and I casually agreed.
I didnât want to get entangled with him. Besides, words without evidence were just talk. I decided to play dumb, âI donât remember. Do you have any proof?â
âNeed proof?â
âWell then, Mr. Smith, you surely understand the concept of âno proof,â right?â
He looked amused, gesturing with his finger. âCome here.â
âWhy?â
I watched him warily. Based on my few encounters with him, it was unlikely to be anything good.
Frank pulled out his phone, tapped a few times, then handed it over. Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a glow on him, accentuating his unrestrained arrogance in his eyes and smile. âTake a look at this.â
