Chapter 173
On the way back, Jack controlled the steering wheel, glancing at me. âAre you still worried about Jane?â âNo.â I shook my head. âShe can handle these things herself.â
Jane weighs everything she does on a scale in her heart. I believe she has the ability to withdraw in time. âYeah.â Jack responded lightly. âAs for the matter with MS, what have you decided?â
âJack, thank you for your kindness.â
After thanking him, I explained, âI canât go to MS at the moment. A lot has happened recently, and I think I need to take a break first.â
Once the matters that need to be resolved are settled peacefully, then Iâll be able to work with peace of mind. Jack didnât mind at all, just chuckled softly. âSo it seems like we canât be colleagues.â
âHuh?â I didnât understand. Jackâs eyes were dark, his thin lips tinged with an imperceptible gentleness.â Some things have to be resolved in advance, so Iâm going back to the Renolds family soon.â
âBack to the Renolds family?â I was somewhat surprised. From what Jack implied, the Renolds family now listened to Sallyâs commands. What good would it do him to go back?
Thinking of the beating he took during the day, I couldnât help but worry for him. Jackâs face was clearly smiling. âWorried about me?â
âYeah, a little.â
âDonât worry.â His clear and elegant face exuded a reassuring aura. âI know what Iâm doing. I wonât let myself get into trouble again.â
I didnât feel it appropriate to say more. I faintly guessed that his return to the Renolds family might have something to do with the girl he likes. Or perhaps, itâs precisely for that girl?
When we arrived at the Lake Garden car park, I moved slower. Jack got out of the car first and came over to help me open the door, gentlemanly. âHead up quickly.â
âOkay.â I nodded, stepping out of the car towards the unit door. I caught sight of a tall and slender figure standing at the entrance, his expression indifferent, clearly tinged with anger. A bit like a husband catching his wife in the act.
I frowned slightly and saw him striding over. The black long coat swayed with his movements, adding a
touch of cold and fierce aura.
He stood next to me, his gaze falling on Jack. In a cold and sharp tone, he said, âCould you stay away from other peopleâs wives a bit more? Donât you have basic manners?â
Tension was palpable, with no room for sentiment. Ryanâs presence was always formidable, yet Jack didnât back down in the slightest.
Jack remained calm and composed, his faint smile unbothered. âIf being married means she canât even have ordinary social interactions, then perhaps you should reflect on whether you have some psychological issues.â
Ryan detected the scent of alcohol on me, his voice icy. âA man and a woman going out for drinks, and

youâre saying itâs just ordinary social interaction?â
âIn that case, Mr. Frost, you should reflect on yourself even more.â Jack didnât back down, picking up my bag from the passenger seat and handing it over, lightly touching his lip. âWhen your wife is out drinking, where were you? What were you doing?â
Ryan stared at my actions, his jawline tense, emotions swirling fiercely in his pitchâblack eyes. He kept a straight face, reaching out to take the bag. âThereâs no need for Mr. Renolds to worry about this!â
With those words, he grabbed my hand, ignoring my struggle, intending to push me into the nearby black Maybach!
âMr. Frost!â Jack stepped forward in one large stride, intercepting his actions without hesitation, his voice deepening. âHave you ever asked Charlotte if sheâs willing?â
For a moment, the smell of gunpowder in the air seemed even stronger!
Ryan lowered his eyes to look at me, raised his chin lightly, a mocking smile almost commandingly.â Answer him.â
