Chapter 157
âYes.â Gary breathed a sigh of relief.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Ryan was promptly placed on a mobile hospital bed.
The hospital room was brightly lit. It was only then that I noticed Ryanâs face, unnaturally pale due to excessive blood loss.
In the car⦠he had been putting on a brave front the whole time to keep me from worrying.
As the doors of the emergency room closed, my heart was seized by a fierce fear.
Even breathing became difficult.
I leaned against the wall, unable to describe the turmoil in my heart.
All I knew was that when the doors of the emergency room opened and the doctor came out saying the bullet had been removed, and as long as he rested well for a period of time, the problem would not be serious, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
I entered the hospital room, and his dark eyes stared at me intensely.
As if he was trying to see through me.
I pursed my lips and poured him a glass of water. âGary has gone back to pack your daily necessities and clothes. When he comes back, Iâll leave.â
He smirked, pulling down the comer of his mouth. âLeave?â
âYeah.â
I nodded. âThank you today.â
If he hadnât come, I might not have been able to leave that place unscathed.
Ryan chuckled, halfâsmiling. âCharlotte, I find you quite heartless.â
âWhat do you mean?â I asked.
He cocked his brows. âWho did I get injured because of?â
I
I didnât know what to say, so I lowered my head. âMe.â
âThen youâre just going to leave me alone here and walk away?â He sounded a little pitiful,
I took a deep breath. âRyan, I appreciate what you did, butâ¦â
Weâre both adults now, I didnât make my words too clear and continued, âBesides, I didnât leave you alone. Gary will take care of you.â
âGaryâs a guy. What does he know about taking care of a patient?â Ignoring the first half of my sentence, Ryan spoke disdainfully.
At that moment, Gary walked in with a suitcase. He froze, his eyes darting between me and Ryan. âYes, Mr. Frost is right. Iâm clumsy and Iâm not good at taking care of patients.â

I hadnât expected him to betray me so straightforwardly
But then again, I could understand. After all, Ryan was his boss.
I pinched my palm. âThen why donât you give it a try first?â
Ryan gave Gary a look. âIâm thirsty.â
âYes.â
water f
Gary quickly picked up the glass of the bedside and handed it over.
Ryan gave him a cold look. âMan, Iâm injured. Do I look like I can hold a glass?â
Depending on a man to take care of someone might indeed not work out.
I inserted a straw into the cup and held it to his lips. âHere.â
âThatâs it?â Ryan seemed somewhat disappointed.
Helplessly, I said, âWhat else can we do? Youâre way too big for me to carry.â
âRyanâ¦

Suddenly, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Jessica rushed in, looking distraught. âRyan, I heard you were injured. Where are you hurt? Is it serious?â
Ryan gave Gary a questioning look.
Regretfully, Gary slapped himself on the mouth and hurriedly explained, âIâI just went to get your phoneâ¦.â âDonât blame him. I forced him to tell me!â
Jessica pushed me aside, snatched the water cup from my hand, and affectionately sat beside the bed.â Do you want water? Let me feed you.â
