They say love is supposed to feel like safety. Like warmth. Like home.
But what happens when the place you once called home turns into something unrecognizable? When the arms that once held you begin to hurt instead?
I used to believe in love storiesâthe kind that made your heart race, the kind that felt like magic. And for a while, I thought I was living one. Tyler was charming, handsome, the boy every girl wanted, and somehow, he chose me. The quiet girl who spent her time buried in books, the girl who never thought sheâd end up with the schoolâs golden boy.
At first, it was perfect. Sweet words, stolen kisses, the kind of romance that made me feel like I belonged to something bigger than myself. I thought he saw me, the real me, beneath the shy smiles and oversized sweaters.
But love isnât supposed to leave bruisesâon your skin or on your soul.
Now, I feel like a stranger in my own life, trapped in a relationship that doesnât feel like love anymore, but like a prison I donât know how to escape. And then he came along.
Aiden Coleman.
The socially awkward guy in my literature class with the dark brown eyes and the dimpled smile. The boy who sees things no one else does. The boy who, with one simple look, makes me feel safe in a way I havenât in a long, long time.
I didnât mean to find comfort in him. I didnât mean to get close. But sometimes, the heart finds refuge in the most unexpected places.
And sometimes, the safest place in the world⦠is in the arms of the person you never saw coming.
I did leaveâthough I most diedâbut it was worth it. Cause now I get to write my own love story and fall in love with someone who loves me as though it's breathing.
This is Beautifully Painted.
