sati married shiv against the will of her father .once prajapati daksha performed a grand yagy and invited every god to this celebration but due to his ego and anger he didn't invited sati and shiv . when sati got to know about this yagya she thought his father forgot to invite them so she told shiv that she would go to the yagya .bhagwan shiv stopped her and said we should not go to the place where we are not invited it always brings bad fortune in our life . she went there everyone was there raja daksh was performing the yagya lord vishnu ,lord brahma ,maharishi Narada and all devta . when dakhsa saw sati he started insulting her and her husband lord shiv , she cannot tolerate insult of her husband and decided to end her life ,she called name of shiv and through the cosmic energy within her she burned herself .and here the story of sati starts ............

After the tragic death of Sati, who was the first wife of Lord Shiva, he was left in deep sorrow and withdrew from the world, renouncing everything. He wandered aimlessly, carrying Sati's body, and his grief turned into a deep meditation.Meanwhile, the world was in turmoil. The gods were worried because without Shiva's participation in the cosmic cycle, the balance of the universe was threatened. They sought the help of Lord Vishnu, who devised a plan to bring Shiva back to the world.he cut the body of Sati into 52 pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra, and wherever those body parts fell, they became the Sakti Pith (centers of strength, spiritual energy).

before she jumped into fire Devi sati crushes Daksha for acting so atrociously toward her and her husband Shiva, and reminded him that his haughty behaviour had blinded his intellect. She cursed him, and warned that the wrath of Shiva would destroy him and his kingdom.{later daksha was killed by bhairav (a form of shiv).}
