Chapter 14

Hush little baby1,607 words~9 min read

"Daddy..." I felt little hands poking at me and I turned around, looking up at my baby boy.

He was clutching his stomach and he looked really pale, more than he already was.

"Yeah baby?" He pointed to his stomach.

"It huwts weally weally bad." I could tell he was in little space, and I instantly got up, and put him on my knee.

"How long has it been hurting for?" He looked dazed, and his skin was hot to the touch.

"I woke up and my stomach huwt." He didn't elaborate much but since he wasn't feeling good I wasn't going to make him.

"Ok baby, I'll get you some medicine." I took him off my knee, setting him on the bed and I got up to get some medicine.

When I came back with the liquid, he somehow looked even worse. He was hunched over holding his stomach, small whimpers coming out of his mouth.

"Baby, here." His hand was shaky as he reached out for the medicine.

"Here I got it." I decided to just hold it for him while he drank it.

He slowly drank the medicine, making a face at the taste. I would usually coo at how cute his face was, but this definitely was not the time.

"How about you lay do-" I stopped talking when I saw his eyes widen.

He put a hand over his mouth and I instantly knew what was happening, I picked him up and ran to the bathroom, making it just in time.

"BELCKRNDBA" A series of noises came out of that littles mouth that I thought never could.

He started to cry between the times he was throwing up all the contents in his stomach, and all I could do was sit there and rub his back.

"Daddy..." He looked up at me, His hair stuck on his forehead from sweat.

I wrapped my arms around him, rocking back and fourth trying to ease his cries.

We must've stayed like that for a while, because he eventually fell asleep. I picked him up and carried him out to the bed, undressing him and leaving him in just his underwear. I didn't cover him up either because he was sweating a lot.

I went back into the bathroom and flushed the toilet, spraying air freshener to block out the bad smell.

When I came back he was curled into a ball, shaking and crying silently. My heart broke instantly.

"Baby..." I reached over to touch him but he moved back.

"Hot..." I basically sprinted over to the air conditioner, lowering the temperature.

I walked into the hallway and opened the closet, grabbing a box fan, bringing it back to the bedroom.

After I set it up I positioned it perfectly for him. I myself never really got sick, and I was the only child at home so I never had to care for anyone.

"Daddy..." I rushed over to his side, not touching him because he didn't want me to last time I tried.

"Yes baby?"

"Make the pain go away..." My heart broke because I didn't know what to do for him.

"Baby, can you swallow pills?" He nodded his head and I went into the bathroom.

The scent of puke was mixed with the 'ocean breeze' sent of the air freshener. I ignored it though and opened the medicine cabinet, grabbing Tylenol and some sleeping pills.

I went to the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle, bringing it to Theo.

"Here baby." He took it from me and drank the water. He had a bit of a difficult time swallowing the pills at first, but he eventually did it.

After about an hour he fell asleep, and I went into the living room to watch some TV. I randomly clicked through channels, nothing really interesting being on.

I eventually fell asleep on the couch, and by the position I was in I knew I would hurt in the morning.

"Oh my fuc-" I grabbed the phone and answered it. My limbs hurt from sleeping weird.

"WHAT!" I instantly straightened up though when I heard my bosses voice on the other end.

"I really hope that wasn't towards me..."

"Umm, N-No! Of course not... it was the Tv." I scratched the back of my head, already knowing that she knows that I just lied.

"Right... I have work for you." I slouched back down again, I literally just finished my last one, and just got my baby back.

"Ok... when do I start?"

"In three hours I want you at the company, don't be late." Before I could say anything she hung up.

Great, just great. I just got my baby back and now I have another mission.

What am I gonna do about Theo? I can't just leave him alone, nor will I put him in any danger by bringing him on my mission.

I dialed my friends number, hoping he'll pick up and agree to watch Theo.

"Hello?" His voice sounded raspy, like he just woke up.

"Hey, I have another job to do. Can you watch Theo for the time being?" I heard a long sigh on the other side of the phone.

"Come on please, he's really great. You probably won't even see him much, you'll only really have to take care of him when he's in little space." My friends know about Theo, as I told them. I tell them almost anything really.

"Finneeee." I smiled.

"Ok be here in an hour, thanks." I hung up before he can object, and walked into the bedroom for my baby.

To my surprise he was already up, and dressed.

"I'm going with you." What?

"What are you talking about baby?" He crossed his arms over his chest. He was no longer in little space, that was clear.

"I don't know what you're job is, but I'm going with you! You can't make me stay here." He stomped his foot and I laughed at his cuteness.

"No." I simply stated, while grabbing a bag and putting some clothes in there as I didn't know how long the mission would last.

"What do you mean no?!"

"No, I'm not going to put you in danger like that." He grabbed onto the bottom of my shirt, pulling at it.

"Why, How would you put me in danger?!" I started to get a little irritated, not at him but the situation. It's not like I wanted to leave him for another period of time, I had no choice.

"Because..." I kept on packing my bag.

"Because why!!"

"BECAUSE I KILL PEOPLE!" He let go of my shirt, not saying anything.

He stepped away from me shaking his head.

"No... no you don't." I nodded my head.

"Yes, yes I do. I kill people for my job." He backed away until his back hit the wall.

"Why..." His eyes were teary, and fear was drawn all over his face. There's no going back now. My secret is out.

"It's not like I kill innocent people... I kill the bad ones, the ones that have killed other people but have gotten away with it. Or the ones that have done unspeakable horrible things to others." I walked towards him but he flinched. I stopped instantly, hurt but not wanting to push him.

"But you still kill people!" He was speaking in a yell like whisper.

"This is why I didn't want to tell you.." He shook his head, wiping his eyes before tears could fall.

"How many..." I could barely hear his voice from how quiet is was.

"What do you mean?"

"How many people did you kill?" I shook my head.

"I don't know..." I know it wasn't a lot. And the people that I did kill did some horrible things.

"Baby, listen to me. The people that I did kill, they were really bad people. They were mass murderers, horrible rapists..." I've never really been scared of anything before I met Theo. Now the only thing that scares me is the thought of loosing him.

"Why didn't you tell me?" There are multiple reasons.

"I was afraid how you would react, and I also didn't want to tell you to keep you safe. It's a dangerous job."

"Tsk yeah sure, so let's say one day you never came back because you got killed, is that the day you planned to tell me? The day I would have to find out from someone else?"

I didn't know when I wanted to tell him honestly, whenever I would plan to I would chicken out. I guess the secrets out now though.

"I'm sorry..." He pushed past me, and laid down on the bed, pulling the covers up over his head.

"Baby..." I could see him shaking through the covers, shaking from crying.

"Please... just leave me alone." I was about to walk out the door, but I stopped.

"I don't know when I'll be back, but my friend is here to help you if you need anything..." I didn't want to straight out say 'Hey I got you a babysitter' that wild just tick him off even more.

He didn't answer me and I sighed, walking out of the bedroom, closing the door behind me.

Minutes later my friend came in, and that was my signal to leave. I told him a couple of things about what to do and then went on my way.

I'm afraid...

Afraid that I really lost him this time.

Afraid that I won't be able to get him back...

Afraid that I lost his trust...
