Again we had to work for the land spirit. He had been away for a moment, off to go wash off in the large washroom where spirits go to get clean. Giant showers were overhead within the room where the land spirit currently was. Satsu and I dusted the large window that out looked the whole valley. The green grass lured over the mountains, and the bed of flowers stood right below. The both of us had gazed until the land spirit came back.
"Ah yes, my work is done." The land spirit exclaimed. Satsu and I looked up from the window in dismay.
"What- why?" The both of us cried.
"Why do you shout as if that was a bad thing?" The land spirit said. Well of course it was a bad thing. It had meant that his job was done which is good, but it was time for him to depart from the house to go do more work in the area. We probably could never see him again even if we tried.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing much that I can do. But those figures I had given you, take those to remembrance of me. I must be off. The both of you have done wonderfully." His whiskers waved in the air as he bowed. Satsu and I bowed as well in appreciation.
As the wind flowed outside, it had made the windows rattle during the silence. The land spirit got up, packed his bags, left us two separate pieces of candy that had a warm filling and a soft rice cake texture on the outside. He thanked us, and told us that forever we will be remembered by him. He left, paying his dues in the front, and was gone.
Satsu looked out of the door, and we still stood there since he left. I looked over at Satsu, and the both of us were in silence. Until Utma had came and ordered us to take a break. We went in the kitchen and sat down at the large table where spirits would come and go to eat. There were a few beasts that ate, but then would leave right away. Satsu and I would just sit there, taking our time to eat as we talked. Utma gave us an extra plate of sweet buns, mochi, sweet potato, and tempura as a token of her appreciation. Slowly Satsu as he ate, he spoke more and more. It was just hard to have met a really kind spirit and then have him leave so soon. I guess that is what it's like nearly all the time for Satsu, even though there were still spirits who lived here everyday. Most likely there could have been spirits just like the land spirits who came and left.
"This may have been the easiest task I have ever done." Said Satsu. I looked at him and listened.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yes, because usually I wipe grime from under the beds of spirits." Satsu and I laughed. We had finished eating, so we got up and left as the servants picked up our plates. We walked until our beads had flashed again. We were back in Utmas room.
"Now, the both of you are assigned for the same job." Utma proceeded as planned. "They are different from the usual. Both of you have to send off these potions to a head spirit. He is living here right now, and he needs these potions immediately. He said that he is working on something very important for all of the spirits. It has something to do with our health of the sort. I believe him because he helped me once before when I was young like you." Utma folded her arms. "This is another test as well."
Satsu and I nodded, as Utma coughed and put her handkerchief against her mouth.
"This potion is fragile. You cannot break it, not for anything or even by accident." She pulled it from her cabinet. It was the darkest and deepest color of purple within a glass bottle. The particles slowly fell to the bottom. Light was spewing at the top under the cap of the bottle. Satsus eyes widened as he looked at it and took it in his grasp. It was fascinating looking. The liquid looked perfectly symmetrical.
"Take it to his room. It is on the 123rd floor, and his room number is 9877 CD. Do not get lost, Satsu. It is also your job to help Eyra and for Eyra to help you." Utma looked at him intently. Both of the twins had made sounds from the cradle. Satsu held the potion in his hands and we left, and walked down the large corridor and into the hallway.
"What did she say again? Not to break it?" Satsu joked. I laughed, and we walked down the hallway as the paintings of spirits and of the scenery's of rivers hung. The house consisted of many antiques. Some were left from spirits. Everything looked old, and so much looked as if they were passed down by centuries.
We turned down another corridor, and we proceeded to keep going. Spirits walked passed us and sniffed the bottle. Satsu has to look down at them to warn them not to bother us. We walked up a spiral case of stairs, and it was ways up. We had to rest for a moment as Satsu held the bottle close to him, and then we walked up even more. Finally we had reached the floor of 123. Our legs burned as our faces were red as we were tired.
This floor was different. It had large master bedrooms instead of small rooms that consisted of only a Matt and a dresser. We looked and tried to find the room number, until we had encountered an spirit who was short in size, but very stout. He had white hair, and he looked like a Komodo dragon. His tail rolled around his feet, as he looked up from under his spectacles. The scales on his skin looked sharp, yet shriveled, as he seemed to have aged. Satsu and I breathed slowly.
"Ah yes, my potion. Much gratitude. Thank you kind ones." He thanked us. Satsu gave him the potion as he grinned towards it, and held it in the light.
"This is much very important. Oh yes indeed it is." He hissed softly in admiration as he looked at the potion. Satsu and I shivered. We felt something odd from this spirit. He was creeping Satsu out, I could tell because instead of looking down he's folding his arms and his shoulders are up against his ears.
The spirit looked at us.
"Call me doctor Komo." His tongue wavered out of his mouth as he spoke. He crawled on the ground and had walked back into his room, saying no more.
Satsu gulped, and my eyebrows scrunched as we walked down the stairwell, not making a sound.
