Chapter 2 of 26

The Opening

Taking Spirits Beyond512 words~3 min read

The fire crackled, as the ashes waved into the moonlight. The moon had turned a vibrant color of Maroon. Sounds of the creatures around us whisked their whines as the rays of the verging moon had caught all of the creature's eyes. My mentor had told me that it was the day of importance. The creatures could not define why they had loved this time and of today. He had guessed it was an anniversary of the moons oneness. My eyebrows scrunched, I never exactly knew what he meant. He made cod against the pan over the open flame. We ate, and then slept on mats under the dark crescent of the moon. Again the feeling had come back again. I whimpered silently under the covers.

Moments later, my mentor was gone. His mat was covered and traced with a light spot of blood. It was dirty as well. Prints were masked on against the mat. Something had caught him- although I was not sure of what. I had whined, as a child I was panting. I started to cry. I was left with my mentor; all the while I was born and raised with him. There was never such a thing of my parents. They then now didn't exist. And now I had a feeling that soon did my mentor. He will soon not exist. I felt that I didn't know what to do, because I was young I was taught to be wise. How could I be wise? I am much too young! There was no such thing of age number, I could only tell by my height, my facial features, and by the size of my feet. I was taught that independence was far more important than accuracy. Again I was crying.

As the rain pattered against the trail, I ran. Still there had been no trace of my mentor. Now I had to guide my own path. This thought feared me. What shall I do? Reluctantly I looked out down into the trail. Something took hold of my hand.

"Do not fear, do not hesitate to be yourself. You are free." The voice whispered against my ear. I started to whimper even more. Who was this? I had started to cry.

"Please do not hurt me." I had begun to tear up, tears had been built up below my eyes and then started to fall as I had tried not to blink.

"Hurt you... Why would I do that?" The voice echoed. I looked up and grimaced. I turned around; there was no one, but the large house I was once at. The doors were no longer chained. They were opened. The voice that had called me must have been the voice of the spirits of this house. They had lured me here, I knew. And then everything had suddenly felt as if the meaning of everything had made sense, but of what? I started to walk on inside. This was a start to my path. I wasn't sure of what, yet it was for me to decide.
