The Ending Of The Vengeful Mountain

Taking Spirits Beyond1,703 words~9 min read

Grotesque feeling emerged as my eyes proached open; darkness of a parallel abyss seemed endless. A deepened cave of immediate thoughts, 'Where am I? Where is Satsu?' I looked around; I laid on a bed of flowers, creature shifted in movement. He walked before me. Then I remembered, it was the tengu that had taken me away from Satsu. He moved closer, his eyes lurched everything about me; he read my mind and my thoughts. He took his hand and stroked it against my cheek; I weeped in dispair, his lips grew closer to mine, and my hand struck his face. He hissed loudly; he fled and look down upon me from up in the corner of the hidden darkness.

"Your going to be my bride, human spiritual being. You are beautiful. And for days, I have waited for your presence, when the waters outside my cave which you swam, I saw you, as the previous creatures saw you from the depths of the water. And that male which you were with, you deserve much more. You deserve a tengu like I. Yes- I know that tengus from legends are a hoaxe, large noses and such- my nose is normal length, and the mask which I wear underestimates the true human beings up yonder." His words insisted on luring me into his ways, yet I did not listen.

"Satsu is my one person I have found, he's the one who I deserve. Yet sometimes he is much too kind, I to begin to think that even he deserves much more." I told the tengu.

He laughed; mocking me of my ways, he came closer to my presence, again he looked into my eyes with a menacingly glare. His lips motioned towards mine; I walked away which he followed. It was becoming more of a childish game. I avoided him, yet his wings flew across above me, and landed right in front of me, again his hand touching the side of face. He insisted on touching me, not in a nasty inhumane way, yet he just wanted a mere touch. I could see coldness in his eyes, his skin felt frozen beyond compare. Which then I came to ask myself- why was he so affectionate?

"Tengu," I asked. He looked at me meaningfully. "Yes?" He responded. I seemed to have caught is attention.

"Why do you insist on touching me so?" I asked. He looked at me with unawareness; his expression was emotionless.

"Why shall it matter? A touch is nothing, I'm just trying to gain your love." He said.

I didn't think so. My heart raced; not in a way that he was winning my love, yet in a way that he wanted to touch because he couldn't feel. It is possible that he insists on his hand touching my face; because he had never felt anything nor experienced love. I looked into his eyes, and then my arms wrapped around him into a touching hug. His cheeks burned, and his whole face grew hot, his eyes widened by the sudden outburst of love. His knees slid to the ground, I didn't let go as his heart softened as a tengu. His eyes watered, as he had never known what love was; he was now accepted and loved. I looked into his eyes; his eyes shook from the sudden touch of love.

"Tengu, love doesn't have to mean you have to be betrothed to have love or make someone become your bride." I said to him. His eyes that looked subtle. His eyes looked wide and meaningful. I held his face in my hands, I looked at him in the eyes, and whispered softly;

"You are a creature who is just as great as I; and you deserve love."

A light thin droplet slipped down from his cheek; he wept in my arms. Then I knew that I didn't love this creature as a lover; yet a kind kindred spirit. He is just like every being who deserves one thing; kind consideration, and love. He should not love in a depth of despair just because he became a yokai. I held his head against my chest, and I stood up as he sat there propped up in a still manner. His deep crimson wings folded as he felt terribly gruesome; his eyes looked down sorrowfully towards the ground; not speaking a simple word. I looked into his face, tears slipped against the cold ground; his heart pounded; and his winged body looked completely overtaken of what he had just experienced.

"I have never felt like this ever before." He said. His eyes looked down blankly; again his face grew warmer as each moment led on. I walked beside him and touched him; he shrieked, and moved away.

"You are right." His words became more defensive. "You should not love me or shall I love you. No longer this exists; I should not love. No- not even a mere touch of you. Stay away. You should not come before me!" He cried; he fled into the darkened corners of the darkness within the cave. I stood there not stopping him.

"It was a mistake." He wept uncontrollably. "I saw you; your presence was such enlightment. Then I thought of you as a perfect image of a lover, I wanted you, and I felt as if I needed you. Yet that was a mere delusion. A mistake! Me, a tengu loving a human girl? How could it be possible? How did you even come to this world? Yet your beauty, I have never seen anything like it. Everything about you astounds me! I want you, yet I do not, no I don't at all!"

The ground began to shake. The tengus face looked with a new emotion of fright. The walls started to crumble down; boulders and rocks shed hitting the floor; all around the cave was in the process of being torn away. His face looked so young; and fragile, his eyebrows motioned for helplessness. I looked around to find what was causing this; yet a large boulder blocked the cave. I looked up at the tengu; he looked lifeless and he had not known what was coming before him.

"Tengu!" I cried, "please tengu, you deserve love! Yet I cannot give it to you, because my own love is for someone else."

He flew down beside me, and picked me up from the ground; and threw me up in the air, and he catched me in his arms. He flew around inside the cave as the rocks nearly hit him, until he dodged and whisked through the air as the cave was shedding. We saw an opening- I held on to him and I did not let go. He looked down at me and said;

"Love is kind yet generous; and it comes in several different ways, because I have met you."

I looked at him in surprise as he went; the cave was nearly in ruin as we were almost becoming of it. A rock came from the depths of darkness and hit the tengu in the shoulder. I cried, holding his arm in my hand. It was bleeding terribly. His colored blood was violet; I tried to hold on to his arm, as he flew even higher than before. I shook not knowing what to do; until I ripped a piece of thin cloth from my commoners clothing. I wrapped it around the tengus arm, until he dodged another flying rock; his arm smacked my hand away; causing the piece of thin cloth to go with the falling rocks. We were almost out; there was an opening. Yet the tengu looked as if he was on the verge of fainting; his face grew pale from flying; his stamina levels were decreasing. I looked around hopelessly; until I noticed a faint glowing down under my neck. It had been my magatama beads. They were working with an alluring sensation once again.

I held on to my magatama beads as I had saw an image within the largest bead held in the middle. I looked closely; a face emerged under the essence of pink colors of the bead; and then it revealed Satsu running helplessly in the woods. He ran towards what looked like the waterfall; and the top of a cliff above it was falling into ruin.

"He knows where we are." I said as the tengu heaved him from the feelings of pain; I ripped another piece of cloth and wrapped it around his arm quickly. The dark violet blood- the color of blood from a spirit seeped through the fabric yet I wrapped it enough so he could no longer bleed gradually. I held on to the magatama beads; Satsu was yelling and crashing his face against the rock; he was transforming into his dragon form.

"Eyra! Bring back Eyra!" He yelled forcefully. The tengu listened to his words and eagerly flew upwards into the open crevice of within the debris of the mountain; yet the rocks were moving by force. There was power within the rocks that were trying to crush the tengu.

"There is a barrier held by this mountain. I am cursed; forever I have to stay here, and go along with the debris of this mountain. I have to go down with the ruin; there is no other choice. But thank you Eyra. That you- I'm truly sorry and deeply saddened by the fact of my delusions of you becoming my bride. Yet the idea of you being my bride I mistaken it for you not being my lover for someone who I care for deeply and emotionally. Close you are to me although we have just met, I will never forget you as long as I may die in just moments as we speak."

My eyes widened as he threw me through the crevice, my mind slipped away as I felt myself land on the soft fur of dragon skin; happening ever so quickly, I lost sight of the tengu as the mountain slipped away and crashed into the depths of the underground, taking the tengu away with the remains of fallen rock and detritus.
