Demonic Soul

Taking Spirits Beyond2,194 words~11 min read

The land below us was halfway living, and in ruin due in the process of the land decaying.Flames whisked in the field in a round circle below, a field where multiple stems of stalk were being burned. It was obvious that Kusubata had something to do with this form of elements that are currently taking place.

"Be careful." Satsus voice transformed into my mind. He could speak! In my mind that is. His thoughts transferred into my own.

"I sense my father is up to something; I'm not sure of what yet stay hidden. I'm sure my fur will cover you. Lay down; don't make a sound, and hold on. And keep your fears away and put hope within your magatama beads."

I gasped for air as we flew closer through particles of smoke; and we flew inside the circle of where the fire was not perishing in its path. Satsu intently waited; and he had started to growl. My ear was pressed into his back; and the fur whisked beside my face and I could hear inside his body. I could feel a sensation of growling against my skin. I did not panic; for I held on to my magatama beads.

Moments of waiting Satsu stood there straight and he did not cower. His eyes intently looked out into the flames as he waited for Kusubata; he would not give up. He looked up into the moon and stared fierce fully- for he was sending a message.

A figure emerged from the depths of the flames. Satsus neck lifted upwards to see.

It was Kusubata. He had changed into a Kitsune, and his eyes were colored deep red; and his teeth was sharp enough to pierce through a stone wall. He had eight to nine tails; all thin and then large at the tips. His cream colored fur was specked with stains of smoke and blood. He growled intently; and his fangs moved into an evil and frightening look as he spoke.

"Satsu my son, you will never take this land. I am much stronger and forever I will be immortal. You do not belong into taking my place. I will forever and always be the god of the awakening of spirits."

The voice from Kusubatas mind transferred into Satsus and into my own. I did not dare to look up. I tightly held onto Satsus back; and I was clenching onto his fur. Satsu growled intently as he received Kusubatas message.

"Father for I have worked for all of my years in childhood; I never had the chance to experience a fulfilling and happy childhood. I worked endlessly and I have always been told that I am nothing; I am no longer good to live In the spirit world. Needless to say, I am done with feeling worthless; heed my words father. For I am destined for greatness." Kusubata jolted as his thoughts transferred back to him. His sharp teeth showed as his mouth opened. He was willing to fight Satsu.

Satsu quickly put me ways into the bushes so I wouldn't get harmed. I cried for him; yet he ignored me, and I stood there not speaking; as my eyes watered for the reassurance of his safety. I held on to my magatama beads as they shook in the palm of my hands; trying to give out more power to Satsu yet it was far too much. I weeped for the safety of Satsu as his father reached into Satsu to bite his neck; he moved to the side, causing Kusubata to miss. Satsu roared and smacked his head against Kusubata; causing him to fall into the flames. He roared in pain; and then flew back out to bite Satsu again. His fangs pierced his neck as Satsu tried to move him away with his horns. I cried out as my magatama beads were shaking more violently than before.

A crack was beginning to break from within a magatama bead of the necklace. I was crying as I had placed another bead on the necklace Lady Kita had given me. I was overtaken with fear; I had no choice but to hold on to my beads hoping that the power will not break away. Satsus voice roared and echoed into the sky's of the deep moonlight; Kusubata was scratching into his flesh. Satsu drew blood from his mouth and his eyes widened as Kusubata pierced his teeth into his fur. I screamed with terror; I was crying for the life of Satsu. Kusubata did not care wither or not his son was going to die at this moment. I realized how cruel of him it was to think this way.

Until a thought had came into my mind. What caused such pain and thoughts within Kusubata? Why had he become far more evil as the god of the spirits? How could a god dare to deceive his own son?

I had realized there was something within Kusubata that was not him thinking these notions. It was possible that it could be that he is possessed. Possessed with such evil souls; his mindset could not be broken out of such horrible ways of thinking. Something was horribly wrong, and it was not his true self that was thinking this way. It had to be something else that was farther than what an innocent god could have ever comprehend.

I cried for Satsu. I cried and cried, until I cried out words to say.

"Satsu! This is not like your father. He must be possessed." I cried. Satsu did not hear me. Kusubata was beating him nearly to death, Satsu was almost in flames. I was crying, my voice cracked as I had thought on what to say or do. Until I noticed something from off of the distance.

I looked at Kusubata. The calves of his legs, there I looked there was something in him that I could not understand. I Iooked closely, trying to figure what it was that was stuck inside him.

It was a half of a spear. It was not an average spear; it was a large spear that was made with harsh and rough wood; and it was sharp like a thorn of a rose. I looked into Kusubatas eyes as I walked further. I held on to my magatama beads as each step I took, I looked into Kusubatas eyes. I stood on between Satsu and Kusubata. They stopped fighting yet they were angered by the fact that I had interrupted their fight.

"Stupid, worthless girl. Why had you come into this world? You are such a useless being. I do not understand why the higher gods would even consider opening the doors for you. Such a waste of space you are; you don't even deserve to stand in this field." Kusubatas words seemed harsh; yet I did not listen to them. Something told me to walk towards Kusubata; and then I did.

I lifted my hand out and pressed my hand against the fur of his leg. He jolted upwards and insisted on telling me why I had been touching him. I didn't speak, yet I pulled out my beads and two of the berries I had gotten from the village. I threw the berrie into Kusubatas mouth without him knowing, and he hissed loudly as I had done so. I quickly grabbed onto the spear that was stuck inside him.

"Satsu!" I called. Satsu quickly walked towards me. "Distract Kusubata. I know what is wrong with your father! He has been pierced with evil powers. Hold him down." I ordered.

Satsu nodded. He quickly took his horns and held Kusubata down. He roared and he had tried to break free, yet he couldn't. Satsus power was beginning to grow stronger each moment. I quickly took hold of the spear and pulled. It didn't budge; yet the pain of the spear jerking in Kusubata made him screech and tried to pull away from Satsus grasp. The pain had caused Kusubatas words to torment into cruel words that came from his mind.

"What if the two of you will never meet again? What if the both of you meeting was a mistake?" Kusubatas mouth parted into a one sided grin as his eyes glared at us with his eyes spreading nothing but words that came out as nothing but cruel remarks. "The both of you are worthless. He is just a boy; how could you care for him so? Why would you ever even consider saving a helpless girl? It is all full of stupidity. The two of you will just keep getting each other lost. The feelings you have for each other is useless. It is worth nothing." The voice from Kusubatas mind grew into meaningless laughter.

My mind was in outrage. Tears came from the corners of my eyes as I held on to the spear trying to pull it out free. How could Kusubata know about my feelings? I have grown tired of being told how or what I should feel. My tears were uncontrollable as I thought of all of the happiest moments I've had with Satsu. How could all of that mean nothing? How could my beating heart race with such passion in the need of helping Satsu?

And then I had realized something within my mind.

Kusubata is not me, or Satsu. He is just himself. He had never even saw or become one of us; meaning he couldn't experience the moments of what Satsu and I had. Kusubata is his own inner spirit and he has his own thoughts. And this was his demon speaking. Yet I chose to never listen to someone who isn't you, since you are the only one who experiences your feelings. I truly believed; deeply I believed that I had met Satsu for a reason. And that reason was to protect him.

After a brief moment the spear slid out slowly out of Kusubata. My eyes widened as my magatama beads glowed with beckoning light; I held the spear in my arms as Kusubatas cry reached into the distance. He fell as Satsu dropped him; and he was now laying in the middle of the field and he was now human. The flames perished; all that was apparent was smoke. Moments after as we watched Kusubata lie there on the ground; Satsu transformed back to his average form as well. The both of us quietly walked towards Kusubata. He had been passed away into a dreary sleep.

"Is your father still alive?" I asked as Satsu stood there in silence.

"I'm sure he is." He answered.

Kusubata lied there until he had noticed that we were standing over him. He had awoke from his sudden outrage and outburst of his demonic form. He was now himself again.

"Why... Am I here in such condition?" Kusubata looked over at Satsu with his expression in complete worry. "Please tell me I did not cause ruin, or any sort of damage. Please tell me, please... If I had ever even said anything wrongly to the both of you, I am deeply, and truly sorry. I am sorry."

Satsu and I had no words to say. His words did hurt us, yet we should forgive him I had thought. He did not mean those words. He was in a complete lost form as a demon. He was just scared; and why should words effect us if it comes from an unknown demonic spirit? We are the only ones that can choose wither or not to listen to a demon. Yet we must find out who those demons are, and pass them away and pull out the spears and heal them. We are the only ones that are in charge of what we feel, and no other spirit or thing can take those feelings away. Only you; yourself.

"No you didn't hurt us." I answered him.

Satsu looked down at Kusubata with a warm smile, and helped him up. The both of us looked at Kusubata. He was finally alive and well again; so I walked closer and hugged both Satsu and Kusubata. We all hugged together; Satsu was a bit hesitant but I still managed to get a hug out of him. I had chosen the path that we should forgive our peers... Even when they do not understand others on how we feel as we are young. From then on, I knew deep down that we should take words that are meaningful to us and keep them. Yet if those words come from a peers mouth and it truly doesn't feel right; we should take it with great assault and believe in ourselves first. And then we will see what our future holds.

The land was now full and alive again, we waved Kusubata away and we were finally back on our journey. Kusubata promised that he will not tell Utma and he'll keep this a secret. Since we had planned that Satsu was going to be away for a while from the house of spirits; so Utma won't find Satsu and delay on my journey back home.
