"Caden will be here in twenty minutes. Be packed and ready to go." My father said through the door.
It echoed because I was curled up in a ball in front of it. I had fallen asleep against it.
I slowly sat up and looked around my room. I would miss the balcony. I used to put the curtains over the railing and slide down them and Grandpa would catch me. I would miss the room. The dents and cracks from me and Dana throwing things when we just needed to let off some steam. I would miss the closet, where we used to throw all my clothes out and play dress up.
I blinked back tears and stood on the balcony. I couldn't make out the lake from here, but I would miss that too. And I would miss the rocking chair Grandma gave mom when grandpa died. I would miss this pack. I tried to get to know everyone. I went out of my way to do projects at school with different people just because grandpa always told me that a pack is a family and you should know your family like you know your mate.
Turns out I shouldn't have talked to anyone in my pack, then I would know them like I know my mate, I thought.
I sighed and changed my tank top and shorts before packing my clothes into the last two labelled boxes.
"Honey, I'm only a phone call away, okay?"
I nodded, "I'll try to call often."
"And I'm going to call you, so answer."
I laughed, I never checked my phone, it was just one of those I didn't see a point in having.
I had the pack link, why did I need a cell phone? Glad I have one now though, the pack link will disappear when my father decides I don't get it, since he's alpha.
I'll have Caden's pack link but I doubt I'll use it. You have to have someone to talk to, to use it.
"And we are going to go to the beach all summer Blake. It's halfway between the packs, so no excuses."
"Trust me, every opportunity I get I'll meet you at the beach."
She smiled, "Good. I need to get back in the water."
"Don't push yourself Dana. It will happen, baby steps."
"I have short legs, all I can do is baby step."
I laughed at the joke we always talked about. We've laughed about this for as long as I can remember.
"Seriously though, don't push yourself."
"Should I make a 'you' comment and say 'I can't push myself, it's physically impossible.'"
"Well, I almost have mom making the comments, but at least I'll be remembered for something."
"You'll be remembered and then you'll be Luna before anyone can forget about you."
"Dana, seriously. Don't get your hopes up. Prisoners don't get a say in things."
I heard Caden exit the alphas office and sighed, "Okay, I will find a room for you guys, and a day or six for the beach this week."
"Good," they both said as Ben came in.
"He's here." Ben said solemnly.
"We know. But give your oldest sister a hug okay?"
"Sure thing."
He wrapped his arms around tightly and stood up, lifting me off the ground like usual. I laughed and nuggied him like I always used to do, back when I was taller.
"Oh man! I just put gel in it!" He joked.
"Bull! You just let it get greasy and run your hands through it.
"Same effect." He said and we all smiled as Caden walked in and my father greeted him.
"Okay, you're the boy, you get the boxes." I told Ben and he sighed but piled three up and carried them outside. Dana and I each took one and followed him.
"Finally. One thing you're on time for." My alpha said.
"No, I'm not ready yet."
Caden opened the trunk and we packed the boxes into his tiny little sports car. They weren't large boxes so they fit, its not like I had a lot to take with me.
Thirty minutes later I had said my goodbyes, most of the pack came to see me off, although they think it's my choice, and was sitting in his car as he started it.
Luckily, he hadn't said a word to me. He exchanged words with my father but that's it.
I sat as close to the door as possible and put my head on my arm on the edge of the window. I stared out at the passing trees.
He sighed a couple times quietly but didn't say anything. I knew his pack was about forty minutes away.
No, it doesn't sound like a lot, but we take our packs seriously. I could've been forced into the pack beside us and it would've felt far away. It's how we're raised. It's a natural thing, we're part wolf.
"We didn't have to leave right away."
"Too late now." I said with an obvious edge to it. He sighed and mumbled something but I didn't catch it.
"Did you bring everything?"
"Yeah, don't worry. My whole life fits in the trunk of a car." I wish I could bring the rocking chair though. Not that I'll have a place to put it.
"I didn't mean it like that."
"Whatever."
I felt my pack link break and blinked back tears. I moved closer to the window and kept staring at the trees. He said some other things along the way but I ignored him, I couldn't even tell you what he had said, I just didn't care.
"We're here," he said as he turned into a long driveway that was at least a ten minute drive from any store or house.
I didn't reply, just put my shoes on and opened the door before he even stopped. I unloaded all my boxes but Caden got some of his pack members to bring them into the house. I had my wallet and phone, that's it.
"I can show you around."
"Don't worry about it." I said and started walking behind the house. He started to follow but I stopped, "Seriously. Leave me alone. I can find trees and water on my own too."
I left him standing there rubbing his face with his hands as I started towards the woods.
Three hours later I had gone quickly through most of the woods, all but part of the front. They had a crystal clear lake and I already knew it was going to be my favourite place. I wanted to hang a rope out there though. The lake was long, running through most of the territory, but ended near one side with a pond.
I wanted a swim to relax but didn't want to be caught naked when I came out. Especially since I didn't want that to be the first impression someone got of me. I slowly made my way back to the pack house but stopped when I heard a limb snap.
I turned to see a boy a few years younger than me with dark hair and pale blue eyes. He looked familiar, but his eyes caught me off guard.
"Hey, you must be the new girl!" I didn't get the normal horny feeling from him and that was rare, but calming.
"That's me."
"Want me to show you the woods?"
"Nah, I scoped them out. Nice lake, it's beautiful, and the woods have so many different types of trees."
"Yeah, I guess so. And the lake is nice."
I nodded.
"Want to swim?"
"Maybe later."
"Sure, let me know. Nobody here likes being in the woods."
"Well, I'm always up for it."
"Just swimming?" He didn't seem like he was hitting on me or even trying, it was relaxing just talking to him. I wished other guys were like this.
"Biking, running, hiking, swimming, you name it. I just love the woods."
"Me too. Good to know I'll have company now." He wasn't even flirting, just talking. I actually felt so calm and relaxed talking to him, it was nice.
I gave a halfhearted smile.
"Did you bring your bike in the move?"
Oh no! "No, I actually forgot it."
"We have a shed full of extras, I'm sure you can borrow one of those. Actually, you can probably keep one."
"Why?"
"You're Luna."
"No, I'm not. Not yet."
"Well what do I call you for now?"
"Blake."
"Daniel, but people call me Dan." He held out his hand and I hesitantly shook it, "Well Blake, it was nice to meet you. I know everyone will love you."
"Nice to meet you too Daniel."
"Daniel. I like that."
Wait that was his name right? "That's what you said...?" I trailed off unsure. Maybe it was Dave and David. I don't know.
"Everyone here calls me Dan," he sighed, "Mom used to call me Daniel."
"Sorry-"
"No. I like it. Bye Blake."
"Bye, Daniel?" I questioned his name.
He smiled and nodded, "See you later." Then he jogged off.
He seems nice, but I don't know why I thought he was so familiar. His bones are pronounced and with his dark hair he has power come off him, but not enough that he's alpha. Maybe he's beta, I thought.
"I thought you got lost." Caden said as I turned the corner.
I shook my head and started towards the front door. I didn't know what I was going to do once I got in but figured I might as well see if it's really as big as it looks. It was definitely bigger than my pack house.
"I'll introduce you." He followed me in.
"Whatever."
He walked, making sure I was following, to what I assume is the living room. Everyone looked over and nodded at Caden respectfully before he growled at a couple guys for staring at me. Wow, he needs to calm down, I thought.
"Everyone, this is Blake," Some guy winked at me and Caden growled, "My mate." The guy looked down.
I smiled at them and waved back to a girl who waved and greeted me,"Hey! I'm Sam, it's good to meet you."
"Likewise."
"If you get sick of him just find me."
He growled, "Sam."
"I know, I know, I'm just kidding. But you can find me anyway."
"Thanks."
He showed me the dining hall, a gaming room, movie room, and his office introducing me as we went through.
"And this is the kitchen," he said as he led me around a corner.
"Everyone this is-"
"Blake! I was just telling them about you," Daniel called motioning to the guys around him.
"Hey Daniel." It was nice to see a familiar face, I was tired of wearing a fake smile.
"Daniel? Dan do you two know each other?"
"Not really, we just ran into each other about half hour ago before I came in. She came out of the woods."
"Well, let me formally introduce you, Dan this is Blake, my mate. Blake, this is Dan, my brother."
Brother? How can they be so different? Caden is closed off and always business, whereas his brother is easy to talk to and seems like a genuinely good guy, which is rare for me.
He smiled and I nodded back.
"Oh, I looked in the shed for you, there's three different kinds and I can raise or lower the seats for you."
"Any will work." Caden looked confused but I didn't care.
"Just let me know and I'll help you with them."
"Thanks Daniel."
Caden left and reluctantly I followed him hoping he would show me my room so I could sleep for the next week straight and hope I went back in time. The time before Caden.
He pointed out certain rooms of people I met but I only remembered Daniel and Sam. And I forget where he said their rooms were.
"You look tired, would you like to sleep?"
I shrugged with a nod. We climbed stairs and he opened the door on the left. There were two doors on the right.
It was huge. The bed was massive, there was a window seat, two doors, a couch, chair, TV, and two nightstands. There was also a bookcase and some more furniture that filled the giant room.
I slowly walked in.
"Make yourself at home." Yeah, that's what every kidnapper tells his prisoner, I thought.
"Where are my boxes?"
"The closet. Oh, this is the bathroom," he opened one door before another, "The closet," he opened the third, "And a small bedroom off of here."
Holy crap, this is huge, I thought.
I walked through the bathroom to find a tub, shower, toilet and two sinks. There were big mirrors all over too. I looked in the small bedroom and found a crib, dresser, folding table, and more. I'm assuming it was for a pup.
I opened the last door and found it half empty. One side had his things and one side was empty with my boxes on the floor.
"Where is my room?"
"This is your room."
"Then why is your stuff here?"
"Well, it's our room."
"No. I'm not sharing a room with you."
"We're mates-"
"No. I'm being forced to mate with you, but until that happens, we are nothing, and after that happens I will try my hardest to keep you out of my head. Now where can I sleep?"
"This is our room, you can use our bed."
"I'm am not sharing a room with you, not to mention a bed."
"Blake-"
"No." I cut him off and left the room. I jogged down the stairs and started wandering around the house until I finally found the living room.
"Oh, hey Blake." I think it was Sam.
"I'm sorry to bother you. Is there an empty bedroom somewhere?"
"Um, yeah. I'll show you."
"Thanks. I really appreciate it."
I heard him coming but ignored it.
"Right down here. Last one on the right."
"Thanks."
"No problem. Any questions at all, come find me."
I gave half a smile and when she left I went into the room but didn't even shut the door and Caden was standing there.
"What are you doing?"
"Sam said nobody was using it."
"There's a perfectly good bed upstairs you can use."
"No, your perfectly good bed is upstairs and you can use it. I'm sleeping here. Now excuse me, I'm exhausted."
"Our perfectly good bed is upstairs."
"I told you. It's not happening."
He must have seen that I wasn't going to change my mind and sighed, "Fine."
I stood there waiting for him to leave and closed the door behind him. Luckily the bed had sheets and I crawled in.
I closed my eyes as I heard a laugh echo through the house and I missed my pack. Everyone except the alpha.
