It had been three days since Caden decided we should be attached at the hip. I thought he was exaggerating with that statement.
I was wrong.
I thought it was a we'll-be-close-like-in-the-same-room-at-all-times. Not a we'll-hold-hands-and-step-on-each-others-toes-until-I-want-to-rip-my-hair-out-due-to-frustration close.
Unfortunately it was the latter.
And my stomach is getting bigger quickly with the twin pups which only adds to my frustrations, not to mention the hormones. Woman problems.
And Caden with his food insistence is driving me crazy. I truly do love the man, but if he forces me to eat anymore food I will throw it up on him.
You know I caught that beautiful? He asked as he put his hands around my waist.
Consider it a warning. I playfully scowled at him.
He wrapped his hands around my waist from behind and rubbed my stomach, I'm sorry babe.
I understand Caden it's just extreme.
I'll back off. But I'm still not letting you out of my sight.
I know Caden.
In the past few days Paul had trained fighters nearby on our land and together all of the wolves were training to take on the rogues when they attacked. We knew they were going to attack, they wanted me.
Good news: they wanted me alive until I gave birth to the pups.
Bad news: they wanted to kill me and raise the pups after altering their fate as soon as they were born.
It would be an understatement to say I wasn't scared and nervous. And extremely mad. What kind of wolf wanted to determine the fate of all others? How much power does one think they need? It disgusted me.
We sat down in our office, "So what else did Benji and Daniel find out?"
"They know how to change DNA, that much is obvious but actually playing with fate... Is that in our genes? And if so do they know which part?"
"I've never been a biology student but it seems extreme to be able to play with fate. Honestly Cade it scares the hell out of me."
He pulled me close, "Me too Bee. They won't have a chance at our pups' fates but we know they're out there. I hate to think they could take over packs by making rogue children fated with the alpha heirs."
We both stopped, They're here. It was Daniel.
Who?! Caden growled.
Rogues. They're about two miles out. They're getting closer.
We couldn't attack until they were on our land since we didn't have enough evidence for council to agree to that. Caden hated this since they were going to be close enough to put me in a ton of danger, but with the extra fighters he tried to convince me nothing would happen to me.
Caden told Zeke and the fighters were instantly gathering into the groups they would defend in. I hated that so many lives would be lost because of me, but then again it wasn't me. It was me and my two pups.
And they wouldn't touch them. Ever.
Caden and I left the room and he brought me into the basement below the foyer. Few people knew it existed, it was really only used during times of war for children but we had them in certain houses that were being guarded.
Soon multiple fighters joined us and the pack got into position to fight. They were surrounding the territory of both packs- hopefully they didn't know where we were- and already shifted as the rogues moved in. They were stealthy and quiet and I thanked Benji and Daniel for getting out the information they did through said "interrogating" because otherwise they might have caught us off guard.
Cadene had me behind him and the fighters were by the door. Don't leave this room.
Caden you say that like-
Nothing will happen to me. But in the event I have to fight you do not leave this room. He said as he held my face by his.
I nodded and held onto him tightly before he slowly pulled away, kissed my lips hungrily, pecked my forehead and we both shifted.
He stayed closer to the door than me and the other ten fighters in the room actually had me pretty calm right now.
How many rogues Zeke?
Maybe a hundred, not even. They're attacking in waves. We're slaughtering them.
Good. Keep it up. Nobody gets to either house. Or the houses with children and women.
Yes Alpha. Copy that.
I heard Zeke send off mass messages and Caden got in touch with Daniel and Ben.
Dan. Ben. Positions?
Daniel replied first, Just finished off another rogue. Man they taste awful. We're up. If they get to the house bro I get an invite. Nobody touches cupcake.
Yes Dan. Everyone will know right before I kill them.
My stomach leapt at that but I forced it down. I've found with these pups that I have a lower tolerance for that stuff.
Benji replied right after, These rogues don't have any stamina Alpha. They won't last an hour at this rate. Invite expected here too.
Of course. Keep me informed. Cadene said and I made sure my mother and sister were safe in the designated houses.
I suddenly felt a pain in my side and curled in a ball with a slight whimper.
Caden turned around and I saw his wolf's eyes grow worried. Bee what's wrong? What hurts?
I'm fine. It was just a pain in my side.
Caden instantly spoke to the doc, Is it okay for Bee to shift?
Not if she can help it. The pups are growing faster than normal, if she can avoid shifting she should. How is Luna?
If she shifted can she shift back safely?
He hesitated and Caden began clenching his jaw, Doc!?
Yeah she should be able to. The pups will be fine either way but she may feel pain when she shifts. After she shifts she should remain laying in her back. Her bones need to settle and form.
Thanks doc. He looked to me and I nodded. I was about to shift when his voice stopped me, What are you doing?
Shifting.
He said it'll hurt you.
It'll be a bit of pain but it'll save the pups. I'll go through the pain Caden.
He nodded and nuzzled my neck, Don't block the pain.
I quit blocking it and shifted back. The pain was worse than I prepared for and laid on my back as soon as possible. It lessened the pain.
I'm so sorry Bee.
You didn't do anything.
I told you to shift during the attack.
Neither of us knew this was coming. It's not your fault-
I was cut off by the sound of scuffling upstairs.
They're in the house. Caden said to Zeke, Daniel, Ben, and the guards in the room.
I went to sit up but his look stopped me.
Don't move. I won't let them in the room. Lay down.
I was going to argue but his eyes had me laying down without a word.
Two guards from the room had their ears to the door and backed up ready to pounce.
Suddenly Zeke was telling Caden in a relieved voice, Few left. No other ones entering the land. Few casualties.
Clear the houses of women and children. And clear the pack houses. Have a team walk the perimeter and another clear the land of rogues.
Yes Alpha.
Caden was a few feet in front of me in his massive strong wolf form. Low growls escaped as wolf paws sounded like they were nearing. Another fighter backed up to protect me and at the sight of the first rogue Caden leapt at him.
Caden had his neck snapped before the rogue knew what had happened to him. He had backed up just enough when I heard more paws upstairs.
Caden took out two more and a few of the other fighters finished off a couple more.
Daniel and Benji burst into the room and hovered near me.
Perimeter cleared. Zeke announced. Land in process.
Houses? Caden asked and Zeke said half were cleared.
A pain went up my side as I shifted and Caden backed up to rub his nose in the crook of my neck.
How bad is it babe?
I'm fine.
He took up his stance again as paws made their way towards the door. Caden leapt and pinned him down before growling, I could've hurt you!
"Sorry Alpha. I wanted to tell you in person that no rogues are free. We have a few in the prison handcuffed but the rest are dead."
Caden sighed in relief and shifted as he came towards me. I stood up and hugged him to me.
Everyone go home. It's over.
------
It did feel like the attack had lasted over eight hours when we were going through it, but it was now four in the morning and we were making sure everyone survived and was healing. I had helped the doctor and those in the waiting room hearing about their loved one's state of health as Caden dealth with the fighters, rogues bodies, prisoners, and the aftermath of war.
"I'd like to give you a checkup Luna. Just in case."
I nodded and half hour later he said I was fine. I thanked him and sat down in the waiting room exhausted. I hadn't sat down in hours. I was just about asleep when I felt Caden pick me up.
"Come on beautiful. Let's get you to bed."
I nodded, "We're really okay? It's really over?"
"Yes Bee. Our pups' fates are safe and I'm going to hold you forever."
I laughed lightly as I rested my cheek on his chest. I was exhausted. My eyes closed and I fell asleep.
