Chapter 7

CHAPTER 7: Natalie stared at herself in the mirror, unbelieving of the girl she saw staring back at her. She wore a blood red Calvin Klein dress, her hair down around her shoulders with diamond stud earrings. It was simple, but elegant and she couldn't believe that this was her. She pulled on some nude pumps and sighed heavily as she felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.

She didn't want to go and force a smile for people that were probably hard-core criminals, murderers. She had no doubt that's the type of people that would be there and it scared her.

She didn't know if something were to happen that Giovanni would protect her, because she was something that he could afford to lose.

Sure, he needed her to be his personal incubator, but she was sure he could find someone better...Right? Natalie turned and walked out of the room and down the hallways to the large spiral staircase.

She stopped at the top, her breath lodging in her throat.

Giovanni stood at the bottom wearing a beautiful black tux with a simple black tie.

He looked breathtaking.

She tried to calm herself and the raging wave of desire that had her squirming as she set a hand on the twirling railing as she began to slowly make her way down the stairs.

Giovanni's eyes never left hers and he couldn't believe how beautiful she was. Natalie could hear music playing loudly and was surprised she could hear it over the pounding of her heart in her ears. She noticed, barely, that it was 'Crazy in Love (2014 Remix) by Beyonce' as she finally stopped at the last stair and was left staring into darkening blue eyes.

She could tell that he was trying to put a hard and cold exterior but was failing with the lust that shone brightly and hot in his eyes. She saw him swallow as he inclined his head.

"You look...magnificent, mi amour." He murmured and she blushed.

"You look good, too." She managed and saw his lips curl, but not even a moment later it was gone and his lips were set in a hard line as he stared down at her, his eyes having gone cold.

He gripped her neck tightly and she yelped with shock.

"Two things. First, you don't speak unless spoken too. Second, you are mine. Miniera, and I don't share. Any male smiles at you and I will pull out his teeth and make you watch." He murmured in a silky dark voice.

His voice washed over her like warm heated honey and she had to stop the warmth that pooled even as disgust and fear raced through her with his horrible words. She swallowed hard, made herself meet his cold eyes before she gave a nod, glaring.

He smiled slowly and let her go only to take her by the waist and pull her close to his side.

They walked into the large ballroom and she had to stifle a gasp at the beauty before her. Ivory marble floors with swirls of grey, big glass windows that were draped with midnight blue velvet curtains that dusted the floors.

Music played throughout the room, along with the light murmur of conversation and the 'ting' of champagne glasses. They went through the room and she did as she was told, much to her anger and dismay. She felt as if she was on display and she hated the cold and greedy eyes she felt on her.

She felt the malevolence of each person in the room and couldn't even begin to imagine the horrible things these people had done in their lifetimes.

Much to her surprise, when Giovanni handed her a glass she saw he was enjoying this as much as she was. His jaw was clenched and she could tell he was holding back a sneer of disgust. That didn't stop him from sending her belittling glances and hard stares.

"She is beautiful." A woman with long red curls was saying. Her skin was pale and freckled and she wore an emerald green dress that clung to all the right places.

Lips, lush and full that had men begging for a taste. Giovanni managed a nod, even as jealousy speared through him.

The man that was on the woman's arm nodded in agreement as he sent an appreciative glance towards her. Natalie had to hold back a shiver of disgust as he eyed her like a large banquet he wanted to devour.

Sensing her discomfort, Giovanni pulled her closer, gripping her tight as he warned her silently- 'Don't say a word'. She glowered down at her champagne, anger and disgust filling her.

She couldn't stand to be in the same room as these people-hated their calculating, covetous gazes. Finally she had enough and stepped out of Giovanni's embrace, ignoring the cold that she felt as she did so and the furious glare he shot her as she excused herself.

She didn't care. He could go fuck himself for all that she cared. Moving through the throngs of people she finally made it to a large set of French doors and she stepped out onto the large wraparound porch that twined around the large mansion.

She looked out at the large green grassy fields that went on until a large big black iron gate wrapped around the property. She took in gulps of the night summer air, enjoyed the gentle kiss of a passing breeze.

She let out a shocked cry as she was suddenly shoved hard up against a wall. Blue eyes glaring hatefully down at her.

"What are you doing!?" Giovanni snarled and her own anger flared to a hot spark in her chest.

She shoved him off her, surprised when he stumbled back a step. She clenched her fists, gritted her teeth.

"I HAD to get out of there. I don't give a fuck how mad you are. I couldn't stand being in the same room as you or those horrible people. I'm not stupid and I know when people are criminals!" she shouted.

His nostrils flared as his eyes blazed with the hottest, yet coldest of rages.

He took a step forward and she stumbled one back and ducked out from underneath his arm as he attempted to cage her in against the wall.

"And you think I do like it?!" He growled and she blinked.

"I hate associating with those people as much as you do." She forced the glare to stay in place.

"I don't believe you!" She hissed and he stepped forward and pulled her around her waist until every spot of their bodies were touching.

Her body instantly reacted and she tried not to moan at the feel of hard muscles against her. His eyes darkened as they dropped to her lips.

"What if I made you believe how much I would rather be alone in a bed with you..." he whispered, his voice thick and husky. Her breaths came in shallow pants and she found herself leaning into him when he lowered his head.

Just a little bit more and she could feel those warm soft lips against hers, taking hers with the ferocity she knew he would unleash once their lips touched, once his control he tried so desperately to control snapped.

Their lips were just about to make contact when large cracks rang out and the sound of glass shattering filled the air.

She heard screams, almost distantly through the haze even as she was thrown to the ground.

She let out a cry of pain as her skin was scraped and she hit her the side of her head painfully to the ground.

White stars exploded in her vision and she felt warmth trickling down her temple.

Blood, her blood, she realized.

Gunfire...someone was shooting at them. Giovanni cursed above her even as he pulled her closer to him, his body flush against hers as he shielded her from the gunfire.

Through the pain she noticed Giovanni's bodyguards running out and over to them, their guns out and firing out, flashes of white appearing on the muzzle as they blocked both Giovanni and Natalie. More gunfire and soon it stopped until the world was silent. Natalie finally gave into the darkness waiting for her even as she heard Giovanni shouting at her to stay awake.

Darkness wrapped thick snaking fingers around her and pulled her under until it was all she  felt....
