Luna was stunned as I said this, which was much better than my usual chill. She was so surprised and excited that she tugged at Samuel Lewis and said incoherently, âYeah, yeah, anything will do.â
Samuel Lewis was calm. He raised his hand and patted the back of her hand, looked at her placidly, then beckoned over to the waiter, and asked them to clear the table and reordered.
Luna, probably in a good mood, looked at me and said, âClara, do you have a favorite food? I remember when I was pregnant with you, I used to love sweets. Do you like that?â
There was a special bond between a mother and her daughter. We couldnât change that. It was true that I had loved desserts for as long as I could remember. And It was still the same now. It hadnât changed in years.
This kind of food memory should belong to induction. Seeing her look at me expectantly, I nodded and answered, âYes.â
Not to be ignored, Lunaâs smile grew stronger. Then she looked at me and said, âI heard that Clariana went to H Town these days, and Dennis is busy recently. Why donât you come back and stay with us for a while? Iâve been tidying up your room, and with Folly at home, I see you and she seem close, and you two can have a chance to have a good conversation.â
Then she looked at me expectantly. I looked at her and I thought of Sheila Torres. I didnât like this woman who wore ambition and desire on her face.
But I somehow felt sorry for her. It pained me to hear the past from Rose, and it would have been even sadder if she had told it herself.
Samuel Lewis took the order. At Lunaâs words, he looked at me, too, waiting for an answer with a look of extraordinary earnestness.
I hesitated for a few seconds and said, âIâm doing great at Georgeâs, and Dennis is just busy for a few days, and after that, weâre going to go out for travelling.â
I didnât explicitly reject it, but I made it very clear.
Luna was about to say something, but she seemed to see someone, and for a moment her face fell.
Out of curiosity, I looked back and, not surprisingly, it was Olivia.
one couldnât avoid his enemy. The people you wanted to meet, even if they were right in front of you, you couldnât see them anyway. But the people we didnât want to see was always in front of us.
Samuel Lewis saw Olivia, too, with a slight frown and a subtle frown on his face.
But Luna was all too obvious, clearly with a tinge of disgust.
After all, having been mother and daughter, I thought Olivia would at least be affectionate to both of them.
But when Olivia came over to say hello, Lunaâs face dropped.
âMo... Miss Knight!â Olivia said, smiling at Luna, âAre you eating here, too?â
Luna looked cool, and she spoke without mercy, âMiss Pearson, weâre having a family dinner, so please donât interrupt us if you donât have anything to do.â
That was cold and indifferent.
Oliviaâs face stiffened for a few moments before she said, with some grievance, âDonât give it a second thought. I just came by to say hello, nothing more.â
Luna said nothing, her face grim. Samuel Lewis was a man who, if he had turned his face down, had a vibe that would have made you shy away.
He gave Olivia a dirty look and said, âItâs unnecessary.â
The grievance was clear on Oliviaâs face. Looked like she had been in the doghouse for a long time.
But I was curious. Dennis cut her off, and the Lewis family basically cut her off. But I had been in City P for a long time and saw her several times, and every time I saw her, everything on her was quite expensive. She didnât work, she had no dependents, how could she still have money to pay for that?
Despite being disliked, Olivia said goodbye to Luna and Samuel Lewis with a smile on her face. She still seemed to be their daughter.
As she walked away, Luna let out a cold breath. âThis woman is not a good person. She is not pure in heart.â
Samuel Lewis frowned and didnât speak.
I looked at them, smiled and said sarcastically, âShe wasnât the one who made the mistake. She had somehow been parented, exalted to the skies, and possessed a sense of ritual and status as a rich lady. Then suddenly she knew that she was the one who had been mistaken, and that she had been beaten back to her original form, with nothing. She didnât seem to have done anything wrong all along, did she?â
Luna was speechless, unable to speak. Samuel Lewis frowned and looked at me, âClara, what are you talking about?â
Please Love Me, Mr. George âHey, guys, I appreciate your relationship, and I admire your commitment to your family. But as a human being, please change your position to put yourself in othersâ shoes and think for others. If you had been a little tolerant and gentle, you would not have pushed your own daughter away or smothered your own grandson.â
If it went on, I was afraid I would dig up the past. Without looking at Luna and Samuel Lewisâ pale faces, I grabbed my bag and left.
Nobody was perfect. But it was the imperfection that made each person unique. None of us were good, and none of us were bad.
Anyone in their position would think they did the right thing. But sometimes, we had to think about other people.
This had nothing to do with saints. Wouldnât the world be a mess if we could eliminate someone because we didnât like them?
Dennis pulled up in front of the restaurant. Seeing me go out, he got out of the car and stood beside it waving to me.
When I reached him, I leaned against his chest and put my arms around him.
He put his arms around me, and his voice was deep and sweet as ever, âWhatâs the matter?â
I lay on his chest and wouldnât move. Then I said quietly, âI donât want to be a good person, but I donât want to hurt others either.â
He smiled, with a note of resignation in his voice, âWhat happened?â
I let go of him and looked up at him, âDennis, if, and I mean if, you ever fall in love with someone else, you need to tell me in advance, and I will leave gracefully.â
He frowned slightly, raised his hand to hold my face, and looked me in the eye, âClara, apart from you, Iâm sure Iâll never fall in love again in my life.â
I smiled and fell silent in his arms. We still had a long way to go, and in this world, the most easily changeable things were peopleâs feelings.
He and I were lucky to love each other for a part of our long journey. And that was enough. For the rest of his life, it would be great if he met someone who would make him desperate.
He saw that I was in an abnormal mood, and did not say much, but just hugged me. After a long silence, he pulled me into the car.
Toby took my car and left. When I got into the car, I stared blankly at the road ahead.
