âIt was aborted.â Mario said coldly, his eyes still on Clarie.
I was shocked, âWhat?â
Turning on me, he said seriously, âThe fetal position was instable. Even if the baby was born, it was probably not able to survive. So it was aborted.â
Dennis frowned, looking at Mario, said, âWhat went wrong?â
Mario replied, sitting straight, âShe had aborted pregnancy before that. But she didnât tell. This time she was emotionally unstable and finally the baby had to be aborted.â He was very indifferent and cold, as if it were a puny thing.
I repressed my anger, âWhat are you going to do next?â
I had expected a straight answer but he asked, looking at me, âDoes the death of Diana have something to do with Nova?â
Shocked at this, I dropped my chopsticks on the ground.
I replied, coldly, âI donât know.â
I had caused Dianaâs death indirectly. Luna made her come to City P in order to get me out of the house.
If I hadnât gone out that evening, she might have been still alive and all of what happened next might not have happened.
I didnât know how what Nova said hurt Diana. Alex was there then, but he didnât catch all.
Mario sneered, with his eyes on Clarie, âI wonât marry Nova. Clarie is the child of the Bennet family, and she will return someday.â
I was shocked at his straightforwardness.
I wanted to repress my feelings but failed, âMario, Clarie wonât go to the Bennet family. This is Dianaâs decision and also my decision since we have been living together for four years. I wonât let you take her away.â
Dennis was unhappy at Marioâs words too, âClarie wonât return to the Bennetâs. You agreed with us on taking care of her.â
Mario sneered, turning on Dennis, âYou promised me that you would take care of Moly but what happened then?â
Moly?
Who was Moly?
Dennis became serious, âYou know why those things happened. Mario, you know it was not an accident that Diana and Moly died.â
Mario seemed hurt, âSo? You now blame all that on me?â
Dennis frowned, turning on me, âYou take Clarie downstairs, okay? Iâll be right there.â
I nodded.
That was what I had wanted to do because Clarie shouldnât have heard this.
While we two left, Mario looked at us, silent.
Downstairs, afraid of being recognized, I took her out of the restaurant and into the garden near the car.
Clarie, after hearing those words, asked me, âMom, why will Mario take me away from you?â
Suddenly I had a headache and felt sick in my stomach.
Touching my belly, I said, "Mario wants a daughter like you."
"But, isn't the woman pregnant? He will have his own baby! "
My stomach hurt so much that I couldn't speak. Lowering my head, I spit out all the food I had just eaten.
Clarie was scared, âMom, are you okay?â
After quite a while, I recovered a little and pulled Clarie into my arms.
Suddenly Nova appeared. She looked haggard.
Seeing me like this, she was a little surprised, âAre you pregnant?â
Then she sneered ironically, âDennis is impotent and you are pregnant? The father must be Hank. I thought you werenât a slut!â
Not in a mood to argue with her in front of Clarie, I was silent.
Then Dennis came.
Seeing those vomits, he looked at me and then at Nova, âWhat did you do?â
Please Love Me, Mr. George His voice was intimidating, and Nova stepped back, her voice quivering, âI didnât do anything. She is just not well.â Then she walked away quickly into the restaurant.
Dennis came near me, âIs there anything wrong with the food?â
I shook my head, with a weak voice, âLetâs go home.â
He nodded, took Clarie into the car, then me onto the passenger seat.
I had no strength to speak, so kept silent. Then I felt asleep.
When I woke up, it was midnight. Dennis was not around. I got out of bed and went to Clarieâs room.
She was sleeping soundly, like an angel, in the cozy room, which was designed by Dennis.
I looked at her for quite a while. Suddenly I found Dennis standing behind me.
He walked towards me and took me into his arms, then led me out of the room.
Back into the bedroom, lying on bed, I asked, âWhat did Mario tell you?â
I had been too weak to ask on the way home.
He replied, âIt was about Clarie. The Bennet knew her existence and wanted her back.â
âNo way!â I swept the bedside lamp to the ground out of anger.
He sighed, and picked up the broken pieces patiently. I was still angry.
Then he looked at me, in a calm voice, âI know you donât want Clarie to be taken away, I will try to persuade Mario. But Clara, we should let Clarie make her own decision.â
âHow could she make her decision? She is only four years old! I have been with her for four years and I cannot be separated from her. I will never let Mario take her away from me. I may not be rich but I can take good care of her with love. But what if the Bennet family treats her badly? What if Mario cannot look after her well? I have raised her for four years, and I will never send her away.â
