I scowled. Did she mean I was a shameless mistress and Dennis was a rich philanderer?
It was kind of an interesting plot.
I looked at her and said, âIf a person never reflects on himself, but only blames his faults on others, he will not only suffer, but also fail more thoroughly.â
I didnât want to meddle too much in other peopleâs affairs. When you got to a certain age, you just wanted to live your life the way you liked.
I went back to the yard and saw That Clariana had been picked up by Dennis. She had picked a lot of fruit and was spooning watermelon in the yard.
When she saw me, she said excitedly, âMom, youâre back!â Then she put down the watermelon and ran towards me.
She threw herself into my arms and said softly, âUncle George promised to make us some spaghetti tonight when you get back.â
Seeing that Dennis wasnât in the yard, I said, âWhere is he?â
Clariana pointed to the back yard. âHe said some of your clothes donât go in the washer, so he washes them by hand in the back yard.â
I was stunned and went to the backyard. What clothes couldnât be washed in the washing machine?
Then I saw the man in the back yard squatting by the washbasin, scrubbing clothes. He had changed out of his usual dark suit.
He was wearing warm pajamas that I had bought for him downtown the other day.
But he was so used to high quality and bespoke clothes that I didnât think he would wear them.
I couldnât believe he was wearing it. When I saw him washing the underwear I had taken off last night, my face burned.
Hearing the noise, he looked back at me with gentle eyes. âHey, Iâll be all right in a minute. Clariana picked watermelon. Go and eat some. But donât eat too much, itâs bad for your stomach.â
I didnât know what the daily necessities should be like, but I always felt that it should be like this.
I didnât say anything, but walked toward him and took the clothes in his hands, blushing a little, âLet me do it.â
He frowned, âMy hands are already wet anyway, you can go inside first!â
Then he nudged me with his arm. When Clariana came, he said, âTake Mommy to eat watermelon.â
Somewhere along the way, he was not the Dennis George I used to know. Came to think of it, he was in his mid-thirties. Perhaps old age had made him more stable.
Knowing I couldnât beat him, I got up and went out to the front yard, feeling a little dazed.
Iâd seen a little bit of what Antonia Gilbert said. The Internet developed quickly, and they were famous people in City P.
Rich and cool single men were more attractive than handsome young men.
Reporters and the media were looking into his private life, and inevitably they were going to dig up something. Iâd become numb to Oliviaâs existence.
As for Bernice Miller, she burst onto the entertainment scene two years ago. After several TV series became popular, she also became famous. Along with the George Groupâs investment, Dennis occasionally took her to dinner parties.
As time went on, there would naturally be a topic about them. It didnât really matter if it was true or not.
I was living with Clariana in HL Area. I would not refuse him when he came, and I would not detain him when he left. There were too many things in life that you couldnât get, even if you strove for them. And if we didnât go for it, we wouldnât be afraid of not getting it.
Dinner time.
Dennis cooked. The meal was set when the door was knocked. Clariana ran to open the door.
It was Nathan and Joey.
They were carrying crayfish, alive and obviously fresh.
When he entered the yard and saw Dennis there, Nathan froze, but only for a moment. He handed me the lobster and smiled, âWhen I picked Joey up this afternoon, there was an old man selling it, so I brought it in. Joeyâs allergic to lobster, but Clariana likes it. You can make it for her tomorrow.â
I nodded, took the lobsters and beckoned them to sit down.
Dennis and Nathan had met before. The two men, not far apart in age, shook hands and smiled.
Speaking of which, it was the first time they had actually met at my place. Nathan was introverted and all he talked about with Dennis was the economy.
Dennis George looked at me and smiled. âDo you have any alcohol here?â
I nodded. âI have wine. Is that all right?â There were too many grapes in the yard to eat, so I made a lot of wine.
He smiled.
âYes, itâs not polite to have guests in the house without wine.â
Nathan froze slightly, looking surprised.
I smiled and got up to get the wine. When I returned, I found them chatting lightly. The conversation seemed to be about me.
And it was harmonious.
As I sat back down in my seat, Nathan looked at me and smiled. âI didnât know you couldnâât eat shrimp when Iâve known you so long."
I looked over at Dennis and saw him looking down at the bottle and trying to open it. His eyes were warm and graceful.
âNot all of it,â I said, looking over at Nathan. âClariana loves it, so I'll eat it once in a while.â
It was a disease that came with having a baby. Seafood would make me feel a little uncomfortable, but that didnât mean I couldnât eat it.
Nathan smiled. Dennis offered to pour him a drink. âThank you for taking care of her all these years.â
I never told anyone about my relationship with Dennis. Nathan had his doubts, but he was a gentleman, and he wouldnât have asked if I hadn't said.
The two of them were drinking, and it was harmonious.
Please Love Me, Mr. George ï¤Chapter 320: Hi There, Old Friend 1 After a few glasses of wine, the conversation and atmosphere warmed up, and the two men seemed to share a lot of topics.
Dennis was the City Pâs business genius. If his years in Newton Town had been a time of concealment, these four years in City P had been a time of revelation.
In four years, he had become more and more dazzling. In just four years, he built the George Group into one of the most prominent publicly traded companies.
He invested aggressively in almost every industry and made a fortune.
A man like him was not only dazzling among women, but also looked up to among men.
The children went to bed early. Clariana went to her bedroom, and Joey leaned on Nathanâs lap and fell asleep.
Seeing that, they said no more.
Nathan left and Dennis got up to clear the table. I looked at him as I wiped the table and said, âDennis, youâre getting staid.â
He looked at me and smiled. âHow can I compliment you? That you are becoming gentler?â
I laughed and took the rag into the kitchen.
He collected the dishes and took the cloth from me. âI'll do it,â he said. âYou wash your hands and go check on Clariana.â Knowing I couldn't beat him, I didnât say much. I washed my hands and went to look in Clarianaâs bedroom.
By the time I got out, he was already packed. He lay in the drawing-room, his eyes closed, his breathing easy, and he seemed to be asleep.
I went to the bedroom, grabbed the blanket and put it over him. I touched his shoulder and he woke up.
Too late to avoid it, our eyes met. I didnât know what to do for a while, so I was a little stunned.
There was a light in his eyes, and it was very bright. âIâve seen you in my dreams several times. When I wake up and youâre not there, I always wander for a long time."
