She brushed her silky hair and said languidly, âLetâs talk about how to work together. Actually, to be honest, I donât like Olivia. Iâd rather be friends with you than enemies.â
I pressed my lips together with a faint smile. âFriend? Forget it. Your vision is too great for me to be friends with.â
There is nothing more terrible than making friends with those who put their interests first.
She raised her eyebrows. âThatâs human nature. Maybe youâll figure it out when youâre my age.â
In another ten years?
I smiled and said nothing. I looked at her and said, âThe Gibson family is out of my hands. Even if Link accepted me as her nominally adopted daughter, my words didnât make much difference. If you had nothing to do with the Gibson familyâs deaths, I donât think you need to panic. After that period of time, you can still return to the Gibsonâs as chairman.
Her eyes narrowed and her face dropped. âSo, youâre not going to work with me?â
I shrugged. âSince I want to fight Luna, I have my own plans. I appreciate your kindness.â
I went straight to my bedroom and Yara followed me and said, âClara, you donât have to turn me down immediately. I know you have a lot on your hands, and you donât give a shit about Lunaâs files I have. But, have you thought about what would happen to your marriage if Olivia stayed between you and Dennis?â
I stopped and looked back at her. âSo youâre going to mess with my marriage with Olivia?â
She pressed her lips together with some irritation. âYou donât have to be an enemy. I can help you more than that.â
Part of me wanted to laugh, but I held it back. I just looked at her and said, âYou and I can only have a non-interference relationship. I canât help you with your things, and I believe I have the ability to do my job, so I hope we will not interfere with each other in the future.â
Back in the bedroom, I felt uncomfortable.
I had a dull pain in my lower abdomen and realized I had my period when I went into the bathroom.
Iâve had black blood since the miscarriage, and I havenât had a normal period. Fortunately, my period was normal now.
Something happy finally happened to me. When Dennis came home, I was sitting on the couch in my bedroom watching TV. I felt a little cold, so I covered myself with a blanket.
There was still moisture in his hair and he was holding a bunch of flowers.
When he saw me on the couch watching TV, he came over, pulled up my blanket and said, âStill up? Are you waiting for me?â
I sat up, a little tired, and said, âYes!â
He put the flowers in a vase and rubbed my cheek with the palm of his hand. I must have been sitting for a long time, so I felt cool when I touched his hand.
âWhat are you waiting for?â He pulled me into his arms with a smile on his face, rubbing my face with his prickly mustache.
I looked at the flowers he had bought and knew they were expensive from the packaging and the brightness of the flowers.
He handed it to me, smiling. âDoes it smell good?â
âFor me?â I took it, sniffed it, and it did smell good.
He said in a low voice, putting his arm around me. âOf course!â
I lowered my eyes and said simply, âYara said Olivia is staying here for a few more days.â
He raised his eyebrows and said flatly, âSo?â
I loosened the wrapping paper I had touched and said dryly, âPut it in the living room.â
He frowned, and there was a faint anger in his handsome face, âSo, I gave you flowers, and this is what youâre going to do with them? Huh?â
I stood up and pulled myself out of his arms. "So, what should I do? Sleep with it?â
He closed his lips and dropped the flowers on the TV counter. Then he took off his coat and went into the bathroom.
It wasnât long before there was a running noise in the bathroom. I glanced dimly at the flowers he had left on the cupboard and went to bed.
I felt uncomfortable in my lower abdomen. After a few steps, I felt like I was bleeding like a river. And I was in a bad mood, so I was a little cranky.
Dennis came out covered in blisters and steamed up, his hair still wet.
Seeing that I was already in bed, he frowned slightly, threw the towel to me and said, âHelp me dry it!â
I frowned, shrinking in the quilt silent, did not want to talk to him.
When I didnât respond, he said crossly, âClara, straighten this out. Thereâs no need to lose your temper.
I messed up tonight, and you took it out on me. Just get up and do what youâre going to do, and donât sulk about it, okay?â
I was a little uncomfortable and a little sleepy, so I moved a little, looked up at him, and stood up to kiss him in the mouth, saying, âWell, thank you! I like your flowers very much, good night!â
Then I lay down on the bed.
Dennis kept his eyes on me. He narrowed his dark eyes slightly and said, âPerfunctory!â
Then he bent down and kissed me directly, with his elbow beside me. He kissed him hard, and I didn't resist. It was a long time before he freed me.
Then he said, âHow about tonight?â
I blacked out for about a moment, then a pain started in my lower abdomen, and I said, âDennis, Iâm tired!â
He understood me, but he didn't force me. He nodded. âWell, have a good rest.â
But even then, as he lay beside me and took me in his arms, he breathed heavily and kissed me.
I could tell he was taking it a long time.
I ducked and tried to hide, but there was the edge of the bed behind me, and then I would fall off the bed. I raised my hand to push him, but he took it.
Seeing that he had rubbed my shoulder strap, I frowned. âDennis...â
âHoney, don't be afraid!â
I held him down and said, âSorry, I canât!â
He smiled, then kissed me a few times and said, half coaxing, half seducing, âItâs okay. Weâll take our time.â
He might have misunderstood me, and I was momentarily at a loss what to say.
But even if I didn't say anything, it wasnât long before he found out. Looking down at me, he was surprised. âWhen?â
âTonight!â I said wearily.
