Stunned, Dennis followed me and whispered, âWhatâs wrong?â
âIâm sleepy!â After I answered him, I went into the bathroom to wash up.
I was caught in his grip. He frowned deeply. âClara, be straight to me, OK?â
âArenât you tired after a long day out?â I wasnât angry. I was even smiling when I said it.
âNo,â he answered rather grimly. âIs it because I came back late?â After a pause, he frowned and said, âI'm sorry. I wonât keep you waiting. Iâll try to get things done soon next time.â
âNo, your work is more important.â With that, I pushed him away and went into the bathroom.
He came in before I could close the door.
Seeing that I still seemed unhappy, he frowned slightly and hugged me from behind, his chin resting on my shoulder.
His voice was low and subdued. âNothing is as important as you.â And he kissed me gently.
The scent of other womenâs perfumes filled me, making me a little irritable. I pushed him away and pressed my lips together. âDennis, get out of here.
I need a shower.â
My words were indignant. He frowned. âShall we wash together?â
âDennis, you donât understand what Iâm saying, do you? I said Iâm going to take a bath, and if you want a bath, go to the next room.â
He pressed his lips together and his face darkened. âWhatâs the matter? Why are you angry? What have I done?â
âNothing!â
I didnât even want to talk to him right now. If he didnât go out, I would.
But he wouldnât let me go. He pushed me up against the wall and bit me hard on the shoulder. âTell me why youâre angry, okay? Donât make me guess.â
âGo take a shower. You smell terrible.â I said, frowning.
He raised his eyebrows, then raised his hand, sniffed, and asked, curling his lips, âClara, can you smell it?â
âGo to your bath!â I said with some irritation.
He smiled and said patiently, âSheâs sick, and I happened to be with Marcus, so we went there together. I am your husband, and I will be faithful to you all my life.â
I pressed my lips together and pushed him away.
âGo take a bath.â
He chuckled and went into the bathroom.
When he came out, he changed his bathrobe, and his chest muscles showed his strong personality.
Seeing me sitting in bed reading, he sat over and said, âWhy are you looking at this? Do you want to go there?â
âI want to go to country M. Diana and Alex have been there for ages, and I havenât heard from them. I donât know what happened to them. I want to check it out. I havenât seen them since my accident, not even Luis, and I donât know whatâs going on with them.â
He nodded, took my travel guide, put it aside and said, âIt doesn't work. Itâs no use reading this thing. It just so happens that I am planning to go to ountru M sometime later. You can go with me then.â
âWhat are you doing there?â With so much going on at the office, could he walk away?
He pressed his lips together and kissed me on my forehead in his customary way. âThere have been problems in some of Marioâs hospitals, and I have to go over there. There are several in the country, too. Things are getting a bit serious.â
I was stunned. That was why his phone kept ringing today.
I didnât take Jackieâs words seriously. But thatâs the way people are. Once the seeds of doubt were planted, they would start to germinate and grow like crazy.
After thinking about it, I said, âAre all the hospitals in trouble run by Mr. Bennett?â
He nodded. âHeâs in charge of all the medical stuff.â
âWell, could it be...â Having said that, I felt that my words were a bit of a wedge. So I said, âHow long have you and Mr. Bennett known each other?â
He smiled and looked down at me. âWeâve known each other since college. Why do you ask that out of the blue? What, are you interested in my past now?â
I smiled and said, âSo how do you two become such close, trusting friends?â
People always had to have a period of unforgettable, heart-to-heart days before they became trusted friends, at least that was how I understood it.
I looked up at him and saw that he had a sharp jaw. Good-looking people were extremely good-looking from that Angle.
âIâll talk to you about these things later.
Are you sleepy?â
It seemed that he didnât want to talk, so I didnât force him. I just said âokayâ!
Then he said no more.
His phone rang a couple of times and he wasn't going to pick it up. I looked sideways. It was Olivia calling.
I frowned, looked at him and said, âItâs very noisy!â
He raised his eyebrows and put the phone on silent, but I saw it anyway. The phone was beside him, and even though it was silent, the screen always lit up.
One after another. I got annoyed and said to Dennis, âCanât you answer it? Itâs annoying.â
He frowned and there was a bit of gloom on his handsome face. âYou want me to pick it up?â
âDennis George, cut the crap, pick up the phone if you want or go find her if you donât. Stop being so annoying.â It was really annoying. Calling other peopleâs husband in the middle of the night, only Olivia could do that.
Stunned by the words, Dennis paused, his handsome face went cool. âWhy would I go to her? Clara, are you crazy?â
âYes, I am. Please either turn it off or go out and turn left. Youâre welcome.â
He picked it up, put it on speaker, and said grimly, âYes?â
âDear brother, I am alone in the hospital now. Could you please come and accompany me? I am a little afraid of being alone.â
Dennis said, his voice deep and cold. âIâm not your parents. Why should I be there whenever you call me? Olivia, everything has its limits, and your brother asked me to take care of you, not to sacrifice myself.â
Please Love Me, Mr. George ï¤Chapter 214 The Gibson Familyâs Complicated Past 2 After a pause, he added without emotion. âAnd please donât call me in the middle of the night again. My wife is a light sleeper with a bad temper and I have to coax her up for a long time. Sheâs very difficult to coax.â
Then he hung up the phone and turned it off.
He looked at me, his eyebrows raised. âSatisfied?â
I rolled my eyes at him.
Then I tucked into the covers and he lay down after me, rubbing kisses on me.
It was getting late. I closed my eyes for sleep as usual, but suddenly I realized something was wrong.
Frowning, I pushed Dennis away from me and yelled, âDennis, what are you doing?â
