Gianna sat cross-legged on her couch, staring blankly at the television. A rom-com she had already watched a dozen times played in the background, but her mind was too busy to focus on the cheesy love story unfolding on the screen.

Her heart was in a whirlwind of emotions-confusion, excitement, and nervousness all tangled together. The past few weeks with Hector had felt so natural, so effortless. They had been friends for years, and yet now it felt... different. But the question lingered in her mind like an itch she couldn't ignore: What exactly were they?

The sound of a soft knock at her door pulled her from her thoughts. Gianna's heart skipped, a smile already tugging at her lips as she stood to answer it. She didn't need to check who it was-she knew.

Sure enough, Hector stood on the other side, hands stuffed into the pockets of his jacket. His hair was slightly messy, as though he had just run his hands through it in frustration or thought. His signature grin spread across his face when he saw her.

"Hey, hermosa," he greeted, stepping inside when she moved aside to let him in.

"Hector," she replied softly, closing the door behind him.

He made himself comfortable on the couch like he always did, kicking off his shoes and leaning back with ease. Gianna hesitated for a moment before joining him, her legs tucked under her as she sat at the opposite end.

For a while, they simply sat in silence, the noise of the movie filling the room. But Gianna's heart thudded in her chest, and the question burned at the tip of her tongue. She couldn't hold it in any longer.

"Hector," she started, her voice quieter than she intended.

He looked over at her, his dark eyes soft and curious. "Yeah?"

She hesitated, fidgeting with the hem of her sweatshirt. Her lips trembled slightly as she worked up the courage to say what she had been thinking for days. Finally, she met his gaze, her brown eyes earnest and searching.

"What are we?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Hector's playful grin faded, replaced by a look of genuine surprise. He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees as he studied her. For a moment, the only sound was the faint hum of the TV.

"What are we?" he repeated, as if testing the words himself.

Gianna nodded, her hands twisting together nervously in her lap. "Yeah. I mean, we've been... spending a lot of time together. And things feel different now, you know? Not just like before. And I just-" She cut herself off, letting out a shaky breath. "I guess I just need to know where we stand."

Hector leaned back against the couch, his eyes never leaving hers. There was a moment of silence before he finally spoke, his voice low but steady.

"Gianna, we've known each other our whole lives. You've been my best friend for as long as I can remember. But lately..." He paused, running a hand through his hair. "Lately, it feels like you're so much more than that to me."

Gianna's breath caught in her throat as she processed his words. Her cheeks flushed, and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest.

Hector shifted closer to her, his gaze warm and unwavering. "I don't know how to put it into words, but I care about you, Gianna. More than I've ever cared about anyone. And if I'm being honest, I don't think I've felt this way about anyone else before."

Her lips parted slightly, her mind racing as she tried to take it all in. "So... what does that mean for us?" she asked, her voice soft.

Hector smiled, his hand reaching out to gently take hers. His touch was warm and comforting, grounding her in the moment. "It means I want to figure it out with you," he said simply. "I don't want to rush anything or mess this up. But I know I want to be with you, Gianna. Whatever that looks like, whatever it takes-I'm all in."

Gianna felt a lump rise in her throat as his words sank in. Her lips trembled, and she bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from tearing up. "You mean that?" she whispered.

Hector nodded, his thumb brushing lightly over the back of her hand. "I mean it," he said firmly. "I've never been more sure of anything."

A small, teary laugh escaped her lips, and she shook her head, a mix of relief and disbelief washing over her. "You're so annoying, Fort," she muttered, though her smile betrayed her true feelings.

He chuckled, leaning closer until their foreheads were almost touching. "And yet, you still like me," he teased.

Gianna rolled her eyes, but her smile only grew wider. "Maybe," she admitted, her voice barely audible.

Hector grinned, his free hand coming up to cup her cheek. "Good," he murmured, his voice soft. "Because I'm crazy about you, Giu."

Her breath hitched as he leaned in, their lips meeting in a tender kiss. It was slow and sweet, filled with all the emotions they had both been holding back for so long. When they finally pulled away, Gianna felt like her heart might burst.

"So," Hector said, his voice light and teasing again, "does that answer your question?"

Gianna laughed, wiping at the corner of her eye. "Yeah," she said softly. "Yeah, it does."

And for the first time in weeks, everything felt perfectly, beautifully clear.
