The rehab facility was quiet, save for the faint hum of equipment and the occasional echo of laughter from another room. Gianna sat on the edge of the treatment table, her heart thudding against her ribs. Today was her last session-a milestone she had been chasing for weeks.

Her knee brace lay on the table beside her, a symbol of everything she had fought through to get here. The once-dreaded exercises and painful routines had become her lifeline, each step forward reminding her why she loved the game and how much it meant to her.

Her physical therapist, Sofia, entered the room, her clipboard tucked under one arm and a warm smile on her face. "You ready, Gianna?"

Gianna nodded, forcing a smile despite the nerves twisting in her stomach. "As ready as I'll ever be."

Sofia chuckled, setting the clipboard down and gesturing toward the open space where Gianna had spent countless hours rebuilding her strength. "Let's do one final round of drills. Just to make sure you're good to go."

Gianna pushed herself off the table, the weight of her body evenly balanced on both legs. Her knee felt stronger, steadier, but there was still a small flicker of doubt in her mind. What if she wasn't ready? What if something went wrong again?

"Start with a jog," Sofia said, stepping back to observe.

Gianna took a deep breath, then began jogging across the room. Her movements felt fluid, natural, and she couldn't help the smile that crept onto her face as she picked up speed.

"Good," Sofia said, nodding. "Now some lateral movements."

Gianna shifted into side steps, focusing on keeping her form tight and controlled. Her knee held up, and with each movement, her confidence grew.

The session progressed through more drills-sprints, balance exercises, agility work-and with each completed task, Gianna felt a weight lifting off her shoulders. By the time they reached the final stretch, she was grinning from ear to ear, sweat dripping down her forehead but her spirit soaring.

Sofia clapped her hands together as Gianna finished her last drill, a look of pride on her face. "That's it, Gianna. You're officially cleared."

Gianna froze, the words washing over her like a wave. Cleared. She was finally cleared.

For a moment, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Her lips trembled as she blinked back tears, and before she could stop herself, she let out a small, disbelieving laugh.

"I did it," she whispered, more to herself than anyone else.

Sofia stepped closer, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You've worked so hard for this. You deserve it. Now go out there and show everyone what you're made of."

Gianna nodded, her throat too tight to speak. She grabbed a towel to wipe her face, then turned to Sofia with a genuine smile. "Thank you. For everything."

Sofia smiled back. "You don't need to thank me. This was all you, Gianna."

As she left the rehab facility, the cool evening air greeted her like an old friend. The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, and for the first time in months, she felt a deep sense of hope.

Hector was waiting for her outside, leaning casually against his car. When he saw her, his face broke into a wide grin, and he jogged over to meet her.

"How'd it go?" he asked, his voice tinged with anticipation.

Gianna couldn't stop the smile that spread across her face. "I'm cleared."

Hector's grin widened, and before she could say anything else, he scooped her up into a hug, spinning her around as she laughed.

"I knew you'd do it," he said, setting her down gently but keeping his hands on her shoulders. "I'm so proud of you, Gigi."

Her cheeks flushed, and she looked away, biting her lip to hide the overwhelming emotions bubbling to the surface. "Thanks, Hector. For, you know... everything."

He tilted his head, studying her. "Always."

As they walked to his car, Gianna felt a warmth in her chest that had nothing to do with her victory and everything to do with the boy who had been by her side through it all.

For the first time, she allowed herself to think that maybe-just maybe-she didn't have to face the next chapter of her life alone.
