Chapter 39:

Hazel POV:

*1 year later

I yawned, looking around the huge waiting area. I looked up at the ceiling clock situated behind me, wanting to know what time it was.

3:46am

The bloody plane landed an hour ago and they still haven’t come out of the arrivals section. I’ve been waiting here for two hours. If I could, I would sleep on the floor but then people with their suitcases would run over me and wouldn’t bother to see on what, or whom, they stepped on. British people and their pride.

The doors opened and people poured out. I woke up from my sleepy state and studied the faces that were coming out of the arrivals section.

Nothing.

I checked my phone’s calendar to check that today was in fact the day that they arrive. Yep, 23rd November at 2:34am. I breathed out heavily, sitting down on one of the blue plastic chairs, playing games on my phone trying to pass time.

From my side vision I saw people walking past me and out of the airport, their luggage rolling behind them. I heard the doors opening once again and less suitcases rolling on the floor. Someone whistled but I ignored it, wanting to finish the level I was on.

“You know, you could be a tad bit more excited to see me after eight months.”

My eyes widened and when I looked up, my heart did a somersault. A smile etched across my face and I literally leaped out of my chair and jumped on him. I wrapped my arms around his torso, pulling him as close to me as possible. I felt his chest vibrating and his arms wrapping around me, tightening his arms around me. I smiled and blinked back tears.

After spending eight months away from each other, feelings of being lonely and sad every day surfaced but they were quickly blocked with positive emotions. The tour in America extended to three months instead of two weeks, four months in Europe and the other month was the days in-between tour dates that were in America and Europe. The other two, we spent together but he soon had to leave for tour. In all, it made a year and I wanted him back here with me.

“Sorry about the delay but our suitcases got mixed up,” he mumbled and I smiled against his chest.

I pulled back slightly, standing on my tip toes and instantly found his lips.

How I survived eight months without him, are a mystery I will never solve and a feeling that I don’t want to ever experience again.

“Okay guys! Keep all the romance for yourself, please, I don’t want to feel like a lonely potato,” Harry interfered, wiggling himself between us.

Zayn and I both rolled our eyes at him. He turned around and enveloped me into a hug.

“I know you’ve missed me more than you’ve missed Zayn, love,” he said giving me a wink.

I chuckled, shaking my head at the idiot in front of me. “You don’t even need to worry about that,” I replied with a smile.

A couple of seconds later, Louis lifted me off the ground and tackled me into a bear hug which Niall soon joined in and I was squeezed in between the both of them making breathing difficult. Liam gave me a hug, asking how I’ve been and all.

Eleanor couldn’t make it because she had an important presentation at seven in the morning and so, Louis had told her to stay home and he’ll go there when he arrives. Liam’s girlfriend was back in America because she had a business trip over there. While Harry and Niall retreated to eating and having flings instead of a relationship for now but Niall was getting closer to one of his childhood best friends leaving Harry alone on the ‘Single Shelf’, as they liked to call it.

Paul came over and escorted the boys out of the airport. Zayn twined his fingers with mine and pulled me towards the back of the van and sat down on the back seats. There were only two seats so no one could come and sit next to us. I breathed out heavily, resting my head on his shoulders. He placed a kiss on my forehead, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

“Niall! I’m sitting there! Niall don’t you dare put that huge ass of yours on that bloody seat- Niall!” Harry screamed, making Niall burst in fits of laughter. “Niaaall.”

I felt Zayn breath out heavily and when I looked up to see his face expression, he was smiling weirdly. He probably felt me looking at him because he looked down at me. He smiled and locked his lips with mine while the others fought over who was sitting where.

“Night, lads!” Zayn called out, slamming the door shut while I walked up the stairs to our flat. I pulled one of his suitcases up the stairs, bumping against the door. I gritted my teeth together, turning around and tried to get the keys out of my jeans pocket. I heard the van drive off and Zayn walking up the stairs. I breathed out heavily and tried my other pocket but my tired fingers didn't grab the key.

An arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to their body. I let out a silent breath, closing my eyes. He nuzzled his face in my neck, leaving a kiss on my neck, sending shivers run throughout my body.

His free hand, got the key out of my jeans pocket and unlocked the door. I gave him a questioning look, wondering how I didn't even feel him take the key out. He gave the door a slight kick with his shoe and the both of us walked inside, the door slamming shut behind us. After going up the elevator and into our flat.

The door to our flat closed shut and darkness enveloped the room. The smell of cinnamon and honey filled the room, making me smile.

I heard him walking around the room, then him falling, something breaking and him cursing. I rolled my eyes and walked towards the light switch. I knew this flat like the back of my hand, the amount of time I've woken up at three in the morning without bothering to switch on the lights is uncountable.

Light filled the room and I turned around, finding Zayn sat on the floor and broken glass surrounding him. I arched an eyebrow at him and he gave me a sheepish grin.

"You've only been here less than a minute and you're already breaking things," I complained with a smile.

"I've only lived in this flat for what, two months? You've lived here for a year!" he replied, standing up. "That's unfair."

I shrugged, crossing my arms against my chest, smirking at him. He looked down at the mess he had caused and breathed out heavily, shoving the pieces to the side with his shoe. I rolled my eyes and walked towards the bedroom.

"Where are you going?" he whined like a little child.

"To sleep, it's already 4 in the morning," I replied with a chuckle, flopping down on the double bed.

He appeared at the entrance of the bedroom, grinning. I propped myself up on my elbows, biting my bottom lip while smiling.

"Is it present time?" he asked, giving me a smirk.

"Who said there was a present?" I questioned him, tilting my head sideways. He rolled his eyes and pouted. I chuckled and fell back down on the bed, kicking my shoes off.

I felt him drop down on the bed next to me and when I turned my head to look at him, my lips were pressed against his. He placed his hands on my waist, pulling me close to him. I climbed on top of him, deepening the kiss.

"I knew there was a present," he mumbled making me smile.

"Zaaaayn, can we go back home?" I whined as he parked the car in front of many shops.

We had been running around the city all day long, waking up at noon and leaving the house at two in the afternoon. It was five in the afternoon and I wanted nothing more than to have a nice warm bath.

"Okay, okay sorry just one more stop! It will only take a few minutes and you can stay in the car," he replied, getting out of the car and slamming the door shut, not waiting for me to reply.

I groaned, turning the radio on. I put it on a station that I liked, tapping my fingers against the window. I looked around the car and noticed that he had left his phone here. I literally hated when people left their phones behind. I didn't know where he went so I had no idea where to go if he didn't come back.

Hazel, you panic too much.

I breathed out heavily, running a hand through my hair. I pulled my hair sideways and ended up doing a fishtail trying to pass the time until Zayn came back. The car door opened and Zayn sat down in the driver seat and closed the car door. I looked up and searched his hands for anything or a sort of bag but he hadn't gotten anything. I furrowed my eyebrows at him.

"Did you just go out for a stroll or what?" I asked him sarcastically.

He looked up, looking confused. "What?"

"You didn't buy anything," I replied and he looked down at his lap then back up to look at me.

"Oh, yeah, um," he stuttered, making me curious. "There was a long line at the shop so I came back."

I raised an eyebrow, trying to hide my smirk. "Whatever you say," I replied turning my attention to the radio.

"So, what do you want to do tonight?" he asked, pulling the car out onto the road and driving onto the busy roads.

"Um, dunno, what did you have in mind?" I replied.

"I was gonna go and visit my family in Bradford then we can go someplace quiet?" he suggested and I nodded.

He smiled, turning the car quickly, reversing and driving through the route towards Bradford.

**

I got out of the car and looked at the two old houses in front of me.

My old house and Zayn's family house. Things changed too quickly and I wanted old times again. The witty, sarcastic comments, cold mornings to school, art lessons trying to sit next to each other without throwing a comment at each other, during pe lessons throwing balls at each other while getting the equipment needed for the lesson, prom night, movie nights, study nights, the XFactor audition and that one special night that evolved everything.

I looked at my old house and noticed that people were living in it, then looked at Zayn's family house and noticed the door opening and his mother's happy face appearing. I smiled and the both of us walked up the driveway, greeted by a hug from Patricia. A gave one last look at the house sat on the right side and smiled, closing that chapter and re-opening this chapter.

**

We weren't even supposed to be on this beach at the first place. It was a private property of the Sunrise Hotel and we were seen by the security or anyone else working in the hotel, we would be busted. Famous or not, we would still be busted and probably fined for getting into one of the most popular hotel's beaches in the city.

"Zayn, I can't walk properly," I whispered, dragging my feet across the sand.

I tried to walk carefully without getting any sand in my boots but failed miserably at the first step. The sand was so soft and fine that with one little flick, my shoe was already getting sand inside. Within a few minutes of walking, my boots were getting heavier by the second until eventually I stopped in my tracks, sat down on the sand-covered floor and pulled my boots off.

I turned my shoes over and sand dropped down, a few particles flying back up as it hit the ground. I let out a sigh of relief and stood back up, brushing off sand from my butt. Zayn looked at me weirdly, raising an eyebrow at me.

"What? There was sand in my shoes," I complained quietly, frowning like a little kid.

He rolled his eyes, chuckling. We continued walking farther away from the hotel and making our way towards the part of the beach were it was only sand without any deck chairs, umbrellas, beach gazibo's, tents and bars. It was only the cream fluffy sand and the crystal blue sea.

Zayn sat down and he tugged at my hand, pulling me downwards. I smiled and tumbled over him. He pulled me on his lap, wrapping his arms around me. I nestled my head against his chest, closing my eyes.

I felt very tiny droplets of sea water spraying across my face and a slight breeze brushed against my skin, causing me to shiver. I got off his lap, sitting down between his legs. I turned around to look at him, welcoming him with a smile.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked him softly.

"What? I can't take my girlfriend on a date?" he asked with a smirk.

It gave me butterflies when he addressed me as his girlfriend. I rolled my eyes, chuckling.

"I never said that," I replied, a smile forming on my lips. "I was just curious."

He shrugged, giving me a peck on my lips. "Curiosity killed the cat."

I furrowed my eyebrows together, confused.

What did that have to do with what I asked?

"What does that have to do with what I just asked?" I asked him, my eyebrows still furrowed.

"Dunno," he replied with a shrug. "Just felt like adding a wise sentence."

I burst out laughing at the idiot in front of me. "You're such an idiot!"

"You're mean," he mumbled, pouting.

"Awh! Zaynie is getting offended!" I joked, laughing.

"Not with that name again!" he replied with a tiny smile, rolling his eyes.

"You know, if you keep rolling your eyes, your eyeballs will pop out," I stated seriously.

He arched an eyebrow at me. "Are you trying to sound intelligent?"

"Just stating the obvious," I replied in a sing-song voice.

I was just messing around with him, obviously. I turned back around, resting my back against his chest while he wrapped his arms around my waist. I closed my eyes, relaxing for a few minutes. The sound of the sea constantly going back and forth across the sand, the tiny sounds of crickets nearby, the distant sound of music and laughter coming from the hotel's outdoor party.

I let out a long soft sigh, cuddling closer to him.

"Haze?"

"Mm?" I mumbled, my eyes still closed.

"Do you want to know what I dislike about you?" he asked, resting his head on my shoulder.

My eyes shot open, I didn't dare to move. "Wh-what?"

"Do you want to know what I dislike about you?" he repeated calmly.

"Um, sure?" I asked, not sure what he meant.

"Your surname."

"What?" I asked in shock, turning around to look at him.

"I don't like your surname."

"What's wrong with Anderson?" I asked him, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Dunno," he replied with a shrug. "It doesn't really suit your name."

"You're confusing me, Malik," I said, still shocked and confused.

"I like that surname better on you."

I furrowed my eyebrows, even more confused. Then, it hit like a ton of bricks.

"Zayn Malik did you just propose to me?" I asked, my eyes widening.

He smirked, eyes twinkling.

Omigod. That did not just happen.

"So, do you prefer Hazel Anderson or Hazel Malik?" he asked, giving me an innocent look.

I chuckled, smiling at him. I rolled my eyes, my smile growing wider.

"The second one suits me way better."
