Chapter 37:

Zayn POV:

I tapped my foot against the floor, starting to get impatient. Harry and I stayed at the hospital, waiting to see if everything was okay with Hazel and the others went back home since not all of us could stay. Mark went to get a coffee, not bothering to ask anyone if everything was okay with his girlfriend.

I let out an annoyed sigh and slid down further against the not-so-comfortable chair. Harry had his head rested against the wall behind him, arms crossed against his chest and eyes closed.

"What time is it?" he asked and I looked up at the clock on the wall.

"Eight thirty," I replied with a yawn.

He groaned and opened his eyes, hunching his back and resting his elbows on his knees. "It's been two hours man."

I shrugged, not bothered by the amount of time that we've been waiting for the results. "The real bother here is that Mark isn't even here."

Harry rolled his eyes and shrugged. "It's their problem, stay out of it mate."

I slumped my shoulders forward, mentally agreeing with Harry. I shouldn't get between their relationship shit, she had clearly moved on and so did I but after realizing that she was here, the memories from five years ago surfaced again and I didn't bother to shut out the memory lane.

"Do you remember the night of our first audition? The party at your house?" Harry asked after a few minutes of silence.

A smile formed on my lips and I nodded. "What about it?"

"You fucked Hazel man!" he replied, eyes wide. I chuckled and the smile on my lips grew wider. "How did that happen."

"Dunno," I replied with a smile and straightened my back, remembering that night. "Things change so damn quickly."

He nodded, agreeing. I heard footsteps approaching us and I looked sideways and noticed Mark casually strolling towards us with a cup of coffee in his hands.

"Any news?" he asked coldly.

"No."

He breathed out heavily and sat down on the floor, taking a sip from his cup. Silence took over and I stared at Mark in hatred, while he tried to avoid my gaze. Harry looked back and forth between us and after a few seconds, he sighed and looked away.

"So how do you two know Hazel?" he asked and I arched an eyebrow in his direction.

"We were in high school together," I replied and his eyes widened, his lips forming a smirk.

"Ah which of you is the jerk that dumped her before college?" he asked, looking suddenly interested.

Dumped? Before college? I never dumped her.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Harry butted in.

"Random guess it was you?" Mark replied, narrowing his eyes at Harry, staring at him wickedly.

"Actually, no," Harry replied through gritted teeth, starting to get pissed off. "What do you have to do with anything that happened five years ago?

Mark chuckled humorlessly and pointed an eyebrow in our direction. "Your friend said that I didn't know things but I do. I know that you," he said looking directly at me, "dated Hazel or should I say Zel. You broke her heart and ignored her for five years straight and who was there to help her back up on her feet and trust? I was. No one else was there for her. The five of you and Jesy ignored her and dumped her like she was a piece of trash!"

I gritted my teeth together in anger. I didn't ignore her. I don't know what I did but I know for sure that I didn't dump her. First of all, we were never dating or in a relationship. It never was even official, the both of us had just come out of a 'relationship' and we sure as hell didn't want another one so it was all fun-ish with emotion, love and care behind it all. But it was never official. So I technically never dumped her.

"I never dumped her, we weren't even official," I replied calmly, not showing him that I was starting to get pissed off.

"You might have not been official but she still loved you and you took that for granted," he replied and shrugged. "I thank you, though."

"Thank me for what?" I asked him, now confused.

He smirked but didn't respond. Hazel's door opened and a doctor came out, looking at his clipboard frowning slightly. He looked up and the three of us stood up. He gave us a tight smile and looked back at his clipboard.

"Alright, are all of you here for Ms.Hazel Anderson?" he asked and we nodded. "I'm Dr.Andrews but you can call me David. Okay so tests have been carried out and she doesn't have any internal damage or broken bones, just two broken ribs."

I let out a sigh of relief but the look on Dr.Andrews face said that he still had more to tell us.

"What's the bad news?" Harry interjected.

Dr.Andrews gave us a sad look, gave Mark a brief look then looked at all of us again. "That was the good news. The bad news is that when Hazel got hit by the car, she got hit from the front and the major impact was in her stomach, abdominal area and legs. Luckily, nothing was broken but she suffered from early miscarriage. Surgery will take place in fifteen minutes time. I'm very sorry for your loss, Mr.Hastings."

Dr.Andrews gave Harry and I a brief nod and walked down the corridor. We didn't move or talk, let alone breath. Two nurses rolled a stretcher down the hallway, into Hazel's assigned room and after a few minutes, an unconscious Hazel was strolled through the corridor and out of sight.

She was pregnant.

Hazel POV:

Beeping noises echoed through my ears, doubling in my brain. Pain steered throughout my whole body then centered back towards my abdominal area. I tried to recall what happened and then it hit like a ton of bricks.

No!

My eyes flew open and my hand immediately went towards my stomach, feeling around the area until my fingers made contact with the stitches. I didn't even realize that I was sat up on the hospital bed, white lights and white walls burning bright with light around me. Tears brimmed my eyelids and they rolled down my cheeks.

I looked around the room for any other life form. I turned my head sideways and noticed a figure lying down on the small sofa, passed out. I scrunched my face up and frowned.

"Harry?" I croaked out, narrowing my eyes and giving his lifeless form a confused look. "Harry!"

He gasped and sat upright quickly, his hair all fuzzed up. He looked around the room, his eyes landing on me. "Hey! You woke up!"

I didn't respond. I wanted answers to my questions. Answers that he could respond.

"You got hit by a car," he announced after a couple of seconds in silence.

I still didn't respond.

"Mark left you a letter," he announced again and my eyebrows furrowed together.

"What letter?" I asked, my voice still weak.

Harry stood up and grabbed a piece of paper, neatly folded from the table and handed it to me. I took it from him, resting my back against the headboard behind me. I flicked it open and read the letter, while Harry sat down on the bed, waiting for my reaction.

Hazel. I'm sorry I couldn't do this face to face but I couldn't do it. You know how much I hate talking out things face to face. It's always been our thing to talk things out either by a call, text or letter.

I told Harry and Zayn to not tell you about what happened. I wanted you to find out through this letter. We lost our baby, Hazel. We lost the baby. I blame myself for sending you out to buy me something to eat but I had no control over anything.

Whilst you're reading this paragraph, I want you to remember that I do love you. I really do but like I said before, I had no control over anything. I was drunk and it was a stupid mistake. When I was back in America, I did a stupid drunk mistake and I don't know how I even let myself do it. Drunk or not, we still have control over things that we're doing.

I love you, Hazel. I really do but I can't live with you knowing that I cheated on you and that you probably secretly hate me for doing so. I was planning to tell you after you came back from buying me food but then shit happened and events snapped out of control.

I'm sorry. I know sorry is just a word unless you give it meaning. This sorry has meaning behind it and I hope you realize that. If you want you can call and we can talk it out, if not I understand.

Good luck with Zayn, my love. Love always, Mark xxx

"Shred the paper," I said through gritted teeth, handing the balled paper to Harry not wanting to see it again. "Burn it."

"Hazel," he started but I shook my head, not wanting to hear anything else on the matter.

He cheated on me when he knew that I was bloody pregnant with his child? So.fucking.mature.

Harry frowned, tore the paper into pieces and dumped them in the bin. He then returned to sit down on the bed, looking at me. One of my hands was slightly placed on my abdomen, my fingers tracing the stitches that traced a curved line across my abdomen. I looked up at Harry and met his eyes.

"Who else read the letter?" I asked him quietly.

"Zayn and I," he replied and I gave me a tiny nod.

"Speaking of Zayn, where is he?" I asked him, suddenly getting curious.

He licked his lips and frowned. "Um he went home around half an hour ago but he said he'll be back in an hour or so. Why?"

"Nothing, I just haven't had the time to talk to him about ... well everything, basically," I replied quietly.

He nodded and breathed out heavily. "So what happened exactly? As in with you and Zayn."

I shrugged, not knowing the answer myself. "He seemed to have moved on, so I moved on too."

"He didn't move on, he hasn't moved on till this day," Harry replied slowly, studying my face expressions carefully.

"What do you mean?" I asked him, confused. "If he wasn't over me than why did he stop calling me?"

"Why didn't you call him?" he asked, arching an eyebrow in my direction.

I opened my mouth to say something but clamped it back shut, not knowing how to respond. Why didn't I ever try to call him? Why had it always had to be him that called me instead of me calling him for a change? Maybe that's what he wanted. Me to call him. Maybe he thought that he was bothering me.

But ... he knew that he wasn't bothering me. Right? Or did I just assume that when he actually thought that he was bothering me when in fact he wasn't? Yep. Probably, yeah.

I breathed out heavily, cris crossing my legs and pain shot up from my abdomen, making me wince. I ran a hand through my messy hair and took in several deep breaths.

"Harry, I'm such an idiot."

He chuckled and shook his head, smiling at me. "No you're not. Not anymore anyway.'

I rolled my eyes, frowning slightly.  "I should have known, though."

"Known what?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"That I should call him," I replied with a sigh.

I took in a large breath but pain shot up from my abdomen and I let out a wince. "You okay?"

I shook my head and slid down the bed, laying down. The pain reminded me of my lost baby. How could I have been so stupid that I didn't see the car coming? Was I really that deep in thought about all of the bullshit that was happening that I didn't heard the car approaching?

I closed my eyes, trying to stop the tears from escaping but a stray tear managed to roll down my cheeks. I felt a finger wipe it away, my eyes opened and I came face to face with Harry.

"It's gonna be alright, Lezah," he replied with a smile.

I chuckled, remembering the nickname he gave me five years ago. Memories flashed across my eyes but I pushed them away, needing to sort out my current problems. And those included wanting to know if I was okay and ready to leave the hospital. I literally hated hospitals. The stench was horrible. It reminded me of my dead grandparents. Jackie Malik Anderson and Keith Anderson. My grandpa died a few months after my grandma. Apparently it was too much for him on his wife's sudden death. I don't blame him really.

And then there was my cousin, Seth. Died in action back in Libya while trying to save his friend that was having his throat cut open by one of the Libyan children that was in the building. That was five years ago. Two months after I left for college, Zayn cut contact from me and I lost Jesy. No one was there to catch my fall from my cousin's death. Mark and I weren't even close at that time and I didn't open up to my other two roommates.

"Hey, I'm going to go get something to eat, need something?" Harry asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Nope," I replied, popping the 'p'.

"Alright, need anything call me on my phone," he replied and gestured to the bedside table where my phone was. "I put all our numbers in it, just in case."

He gave me a cheeky smile and left the room, shutting the door behind him.

I closed my eyes, turning on my side giving my back to the door. I started drifting off to sleep, not wanting to bear the memories and pain for a little while. The door opened again and I guessed it was Harry so I didn't bother turning around and checking it was him. I left my eyes closed and continued drifting off to sleep.

Sleep was quickly enveloping me and before I knew it, I was asleep. I felt someone's fingers slightly brushing my cheek, tickling me awake but I ignored it, wanting to sleep.

"I'm so sorry," I heard someone whisper.

I didn't recognize the voice instantly but when I did, sleep quickly enveloped me and I was too weak to protest and wake up.

You shouldn't be sorry, Zayn. I'm the one supposed to apologize.

Well, isn't school a bitch. Two weeks in and I already have tests, projects and shit.
