Chapter 29:

Hazel POV:

I gritted my teeth together and narrowed my eyes at him coldly. He smirked as he noticed my reaction towards him. His eyes flitted towards Zayn, then back to me.

"Found someone to fuck with?" he asked, every syllable perfectly pronounced. I flinched but gritted my teeth.

"He's a friend."

"Oh, so you finally found a friend to hang out with?"

"At least I found real friends, Jace," I replied coldly and attempted to walk around him but his hand shot out and grabbed me from my waist and pushed me towards him.

I pushed him away and felt Zayn's strong hands pulling me backwards. I stumbled backwards and hit Zayn in his chest.

"Move Jace, unlike you I have things to do and places to get to," I said coldly.

His eyes slightly narrowed and I could feel eyes on us. His lips rose upwards and I noticed his famous smirk playing on his lips. I knew that smirk and it only meant one thing. Trouble. I stiffened and took a step backwards.

"Now, don't you get all big headed just because you moved and found a fuck buddy you little s-"

"Excuse me sir! But there are little children in this restaurant! If you want to say bad words, say them elsewhere!" a middle aged man told Jace. Jace gave him a cold look, his eyes narrowed and without another word he turned around and left the restaurant, his gang following him.

I let out a shaky breath and turned back to look at Zayn. He was looking at me curiously.

"Let's just go. I'll explain everything on the way back home but we have to go," I replied and without one word, he followed me out of the restaurant and we started walking towards the train station since it wasn't far away.

We exited McDonalds and I nervously looked around before walking on the pavement. I breathed out heavily and rubbed my neck. I was walking fast and Zayn was casually walking in pace with me since his steps were bigger.

"So what's the deal with Jace?" he asked after five minutes of making distance of having the chance of Jace finding us.

"He was a friend of Seth's," I replied and trailed my tongue across my teeth. "He's such an asshole."

"I know right."

I spun around and my eyes widened when I noticed Jace and another guy that I didn't recognise.

"I'm such an asshole, aren't I Kyle?" he asked in sarcasm, turning to look at the guy next to him.

Kyle smirked and raised one eyebrow, then shot me a dirty look that made me shiver.

"What do you think, pretty boy?" Jace asked turning his attention on Zayn. "Do you think I'm an asshole?"

For a second I looked at Zayn and noticed his jaw tighten, either in anger or he was getting scared of Jace which I doubt.

"Yeah, I do," he replied and Jace's eyes blazed with fire.

"Oh, really?"

"Yep."

"Huh," Jace said and trailed his tongue across his teeth.

My heart literally stopped when his balled fist made contact with Zayn's nose. I gasped and automatically I covered my mouth from shock. Zayn stumbled backwards, holding his nose and wincing in pain while Jace took a step backwards, massaging his hand. Kyle looked shocked and amused and I just wanted to rip both of their heads off and feed them to dogs. Zayn was heaving in deep breaths in anger.

He walked forwards towards Jace, fist raised. My eyes widened and stepped in front of Zayn and Jace, my hands on Zayn's chest pushing, well trying and failing, him backwards.

"Zayn don't! He's not worth it!" I told him and pushed him backwards.

"Get out of the way," he growled but I pushed him backwards firmly.

"No! He's not worth it, Zayn!" I replied through gritted teeth, I looked behind my shoulder and noticed that Jace was looking pretty much amused.

"C'mon pretty boy, hit me! I know you want to," Jace said, his voice sounding challenging.

Zayn growled and attempted to walk around my short frame and hit the asshole. I grabbed his jacket and pulled him backwards which ended up in me tugging at his jacket. I groaned and kicked him in his leg.

"Ow!" Zayn said and whimpered slightly, giving me a 'what the fuck!?' look.

"Jesus! You three are like little children! Just get over yourselves. And you," I said, looking at Jace. "Have to accept the fact that you're a fucking asshole and a waste of oxygen."

Brutal Hazel, brutal. That was very mean of you and unlike you.

"Just go and leave me alone, Jace. You're a little kid and an idiot and just want revenge on Seth because he was a better man than you were to Amanda. Just go."

Jace gritted his teeth together and looked as though he was going to kill someone but I wasn't scared of him. Not anymore anyway. I was sick of his silly stupid games trying to hurt me which results in hurting Seth. He was too much of an egoistic guy to admit that he wasn't one of the 'good' guys.

He turned around and literally stomped off like a little kid. I repeat, he's an egoistic guy that doesn't want to admit that he is actually an asshole. Kyle followed him in silence and gave me one last look and they disappeared around the corner. I let out a shaky breath and turned to look at Zayn. His eyebrows were slightly raised at me in amusement.

"Don't give me that look," I replied coldly.

"What look!?" he asked chuckling, putting his hands up in defence.

"You're an asshole, too."

"Oh, I feel the love," he replied sarcastically.

"Why didn't you just fucking walk away from him!? You knew he was trying to tempt you to fall for his little games, Zayn!"

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry!"

"You're not. You wanted to hit him."

"Well yeah but I am sorry."

"Sure you are," I replied sarcastically.

He rolled his eyes and my eyes travelled to the bruise on his face. My eyes widened slightly and I took a few steps towards him and softly poked his cheek.

"Ow! What the hell Hazel!?"

"It's purple."

"Thank you Captain Obvious."

It was my turn to roll my eyes this time. "Right, let's go catch the train and I'll try and clean it up?"

He shrugged and breathed out heavily.

**

"Zayn! Stay still for a minute. Jesus!" I said, annoyed.

I almost fell off of him because I padded his cheek with a wet tissue trying to get the dried blood off his face. I was sat down on his lap so that I could get a clear-ish view of his bruised cheek. Every time I touched his cheek with the wet tissue he would move and the train was moving which really wasn't helping with me keeping my balance.

"Zayn!" I whined and he smiled. "There's only a tiny part left and you can rest in peace!"

"You're really bossy!" he replied through gritted teeth and winced as I placed the wet tissue on his face and swiped it across his cheek to get rid of the dried blood.

I shrugged and shifted on his lap, resting my knees on the seat, one on each side of his thigh. This was quite an awkward position but I tried to ignore the fact that this was really awkward and that people were watching us and eyeing us curiously.

He groaned and grabbed my wrist, taking the tissue out of my fingers. "I'm going to go to the bathroom and do it myself because you are torturing me sweetheart."

I pouted and got off his lap and sat down on my seat. "You're welcome!"

He chuckled and stood up and walked through the corridors to find the bathroom. I breathed out heavily and took out my phone but before I could unlock it, a voice interrupted me.

"You two look cute together," a girl's voice said from my side.

I turned my head to look at her. "What?" I asked her, sounding confused.

"You two look cute together," she repeated while chuckling. "He looks like an amazing boyfriend."

"Boyfriend?" I asked, sounding even more confused. "Oh, he's not my boyfriend."

"Well you two act like you're together, anyway," she replied with a smile.

"No, no, we're just friends. Good friends, I guess."

"For now probably."

"What do you mean?"

"A boy and a girl will be friends, sure. But at one point or another one will fall for the other and if the other falls for them then you two are soul mates but if not, well then that's just unlucky."

I furrowed my eyebrows together, confused. "But we're just friends and I'm pretty sure it'll stay that way."

She smiled and shrugged. She continued reading her book and I looked away, my eyebrows furrowed together. Her words replaying in my mind.

"But at one point or another one will fall for the other and if the other falls for them then you two are soul mates but if not, well then that's just unlucky."
