Carryover/Spillover/Missing Script/Deferring

Not everyone is meant to pass all courses. That you failed isn't a sin. I don't know why it is a big deal when you don't pass any exams/tests in Nigeria. You get called all sorts of names.

That you failed just means you have to work harder to get to the next level. Failure is not a barrier. I am not sating you have to fail but there is no shame in failing. You only get to realise what isn't working and make it work for you.

Some people panic when they have a carryover. They withdraw from their mates and even change their lifestyle. This carryover discourages them. They feel a world apart.

Please, when you have a carryover or know of someone with a carryover, just try to encourage the person. There is a second chance and maybe their grade would be better than the other one. It just means more focus.

There are other causes of carryover not from you but from the lecturers. Some of then do not mark their scripts. They give to students to help them mark and if you turn out to be an enemy to any of the markers, they attack you with a carryover.

I don't like the idea of students marking for a lecturer. It is better the lecturer marks his student's scripts because he most definitely will have a better understanding of what the student is trying to explain.

Whereas the students the lecturer gives scripts to mark, mark according to the marking scheme given to then by the lecturer and they mark with no mercy. Not caring about your own rightful understanding.

That is why admission should be given to a reasonable number of students so that lecturers will lecture and be able to know if truly students understand him and his studies or not.

The issue of missing script is a disgrace to the tertiary institution. I wonder why scripts miss and to think there is provision for that is alarming. It just means sometimes it is a deliberate action. There are students that do not submit their scripts and walk out if the examination hall because they have signed attendance. This calls for missing script and leaves the lecturer confuse because the student can defend him/her writing the exam even with evidence of his/her signature.

Students should be thoroughly checked before and after exams to avoid any future misunderstandings and care should be taken in distribution and submission of scripts.

Spill over is for those unserious students. When you have loads of carry over and it can't even occupy your course load, then it is spill over. Some students have deliberate spill over just so they can get transferred to another faculty or department. Some just want to start all over again. Instead of starting all over again, why not deferred the semester.

Deferment. Most people say it is for those going on medical or vacation leave or those with not enough school requirements.

Just don't allow a carryover or missing script disrupt your dreams. It is just failure and how you handle it determines how you handle future failure(s). There is no success story without a failure.
