45: Catastrophic Killianâs POV âWhat could have possibly gone wrong?!â I yelled out loud and slammed my fist on the table, making Giselle flinch in her seat.
I gave her the simplest task, and yet she still managed ruin it. Our alliance with the Frostbite Pack is already a close deal. She just needed to get Alpha Everestâs signature make things official.
I donât understand how she managed to fuck things up.
âDonât yell at her, Killian, sheâs pregnant!â My mother scolded me as she softly caressed Giselleâs back to comfort her.
âJust relax, Giselle, okay? Stress is never good for the baby.â My motherâs brows knitted together as she spoke to Giselle in worry.
I clenched my jaw in anger as I watched how my mother consoled Giselle and how Giselle enjoyed my motherâs company.
She even dragged my mother into this, knowing that she would defend her and take her side. She couldnât even face me on her own and own up to her mistakes.
Giselle had just returned from her trip yesterday. I was waiting for her to report to me and submit the signed alliance papers, but I was told that Giselle was so sick from the trip that the Pack Doctor even had to check on her.
I waited for her to get healed, but when it was time for her to report things to me, she even brought my mother with her.
âWhat are we supposed to do now?
you know how beneficial this alliance would be for the future of our Pack?! I worked hard to make Alpha Everest agree to unite with us. It took me a lot of convincing to change his mind, but you ruined it in the end!â I pushed my office chair in anger.
âCalm down, Killian. Youâre fretting too much,â my mother looked at me like I was overreacting. âLosing this deal is barely our loss. Itâs the Frostbite Pack who lost such a good opportunity to ally with us. What good would it be if we ally with a Pack that is too far from âThere are better Packs out there that you should be thinking of forming an alliance with. Take the Shadowfang Pack as an example. You shouldnât be wasting your time with the other Packs. Think of a plan on how we can get the Shadowfang Pack to ally with us,â my mother lectured.
The Shadowfang Pack is the most powerful Pack in existence. They are so powerful that they refuse to ally with anyone because they could sustain their own Pack.
With their precious Luminite, their future is already ensured. It would be a dream to partner with them, a farâfetched dream at that.
âEven so, itâs humiliating that a small Pack declined an alliance with us? What would the other Packs think of us â I shot back at my mother, which she couldnât answer âI donât understand how Giselle can fail such a simple task so drastically,â I voiced out in astonishment at what she had done. âHow did you manage to make the Frostbite Alpha hate you so much to kick you and ban you from his Pack in just one day of your stay there?â
Giselle couldnât respond. I scoffed in disbelief when her lips. quivered, and she lowered her head like she was holding back tears.
âI thought you trained her? I wouldnât have given her this task if you didnât praise her too muchâ I spoke disdainfully towards my mother.
She turned her head away from me, not able to meet my gaze anymore.
âIâIt wasnât my fault,â Giselle sniffed. âWhen I arrived at the Frostbite Pack, Alpha Everest was already talking to people from the Nightsong Pack.â
My body stiffened at her words, âWhat?!â My mother blurted out in surprise. âBut hasnât he already agreed to ally with us? Why is he still entertaining people from a different Pack?â â
âI donât know either,â Giselle answered. âWhen I asked him that question, he just told me that he had changed his mind and that he was not going to sign from us anymore.â
âSo itâs all the Nightsong Packâs fault then?â My motherâs eyes narrowed into slits as she thought of the betrayal that had happened.
âIâm not sure. I donât want to put the blame on them when I donât have any proof,â Giselle replied her brows bent downwards. âI tried to ask Alpha Everest for a reasonable explanation, and I tried to convince him to honor his words, but instead, he lashed out at me and demanded his guards to drag me out of his Pack.â
Giselle choked back tears, trying her best not to cry out. âThat 34 !â My motherâs lips curled in anger. âIf something happened to my grandson, I swear I would wage war against them.
donât care if I enrage the other Packs.â
âYou hear all this, Killian?!â My mother turned her attention back to me.
swallowed hard when she looked at me, expecting that I would do something.
âYouâre not going to turn a blind eye to this, do you? Drystan might be your Uncle, but he disrespected us first by stealing this deal from us. You need to talk to him and teach him a lesson,â my mother demanded of me.
Giselleâs tears suddenly shrunk back, and she reached for my motherâs hand. âThereâs no need for that, mother. I donât want to start any conflict.â
My mother pushed her hand away. âYou donât have to worry about that.â
âItâs okay,â I butted in. âI heard that the Nightsong Pack was chosen to host this yearâs assembly. Itâs best to be on their good side; we canât afford to lose an invitation to the werewolf assembly. We have no idea if the Shadowfang Pack would come to the event this time or not.â
