Chapter 999 He Is Counting On You It was plain that the hospital employees were the only ones who could have freely entered Isabellaâs office.
The study door was pushed open abruptly, and Jean entered.
âI looked for you in your room, but you werenât there. Sure enough, I find you here instead, up so early and already on the computer. What are you working so hard on?â
Upon catching sight of the figure within, he sighed helplessly before walking over.
âBreakfast is ready. Why donât you come downstairs and have some? We can deal with everything else later.â
However, he caught a glimpse of the image on the screen, which caused him to raise his eyebrows.
âHas King restored the surveillance footage?â
Neera nodded and played the original video that had been tampered with.
âLook. This was the person who sneaked into Bellâs office and did something to her computer. It must have something to do with the prescription! I need to see Bell later.â
Jean nodded. âPerfect timing. lan just sent a message saying that he has found Mr. Lopez.â
One piece of good news following another made Neeraâs eyes light up. âReally? Where is he now?â
âDonât get too excited just yet. I heard he isnât doing great from being kept hidden in the basement of a private research institute. If possible, have Isabella come over.â
Neeraâs expression turned grim. Pursing her lips, she nodded.
Before heading down the stairs, she contacted Isabella.
Upon hearing the news about her grandfather, Isabella hastily ended the call and rushed to Imperial Gardens.
Neera personally answered the door. Upon noticing Isabellaâs haggard face-a clear indication that she had not been resting well-her heart clenched.
âHow are you doing?â she asked with concern.
Isabella gave her head a weary shake; she could not hide her anxiety. âIâm fine, but where is Grandpa?
How is he?â
Sighing, Neera led her in. âLetâs talk inside.â
Dragging her friend to a seat, she informed Isabella about the surveillance video and everything that Jean had told her.
At the same time, she showed her the original surveillance video.
âTake a good look. Do you recognize this person?â
Isabella stared intently at the figure on the screen, seething with rage.
âOf course I know him. Heâs my Uncle Harrisâ assistant, Tomas! I canât believe it. My own uncle is the one stabbing me in the back!â
She was livid, and her voice was becoming shrill. A flush of anger spread across her pale face.
âAs for the address you mentioned, thatâs a research institute where my uncle is a partner!â
She did not like to think ill of others, let alone speculate about the motives of her own family members.
Ultimately, however, reality gave her a harsh slap in the face.
Jean spoke up in a calm voice, âYou need to calm down, Ms. Lopez. Getting angry wonât help. The most urgent thing is to rescue your grandfather. My people have found out that there are men standing guard at your uncleâs research institute. Itâs going to take some effort to rescue your grandfather.â
Isabellaâs heart was pounding with anxiety. âIs there anything we can do?â she demanded. âCan we call the police?â
âThereâs a high chance it wonât work.
Neera shook her head, her eyebrows knitted tightly together. âWe donât have a legitimate reason,â she warned. âBesides, weâre the only ones who believe your grandfather is being held captive. If the police do come knocking, they can simply use your grandfatherâs treatment as an excuse to refuse to hand him over. After all, your uncle and your grandfather are family. Itâs not appropriate for the police to intervene in family matters.â
âWhat can we do then?â
The thought of her grandfather being imprisoned there and falling ill was driving Isabella mad with anxiety.
Jean remained calm. âDonât you worry about this. Iâve already ordered my men into position, and it would be a trivial matter. Weâll send him directly to Neeraâs research institute as soon as we manage to rescue your grandfather. All you have to do is be patient and wait.â
Isabellaâs emotions were fraught from oscillating between extremes. Upon hearing the news, she almost burst into tears and expressed a profusion of gratitude.
âNo need for such formality,â Jean said breezily. âYou are Neeraâs best friend. itâs only right that I help you.â
Then, he got up and went to his study, giving the two friends time to themselves.
As Isabella watched his figure disappear around the stairwell corner, the tears she had been holding back finally fell.
âThank you, Neera. Thank you both. I wouldnât have known what to do.â
Neera felt her heart sear painfully. She hugged her friend and soothed her.
âAll right. Stop crying, now. Thereâs no need to be so formal with me. Iâm going to be really upset if you wonât stop crying!â
Only then did Isabella stopped crying at once.
Neera patted her on the back. âThatâs more like it. Save your strength to punish those who have wronged you and your grandfather. You look exhausted. Take a short nap in my room. Iâll wake you up when thereâs news.â
Isabella, however, remained uneasy. âHow could I possibly be at ease while Alvin is currently in charge of the hospital? Though the surveillance has been restored, it only proves that somebody has been in my office and has used my computer. Evidence of the prescription mix-up still needs further investigation, and thereâs no doubt that Tomas wasnât the only one involved.â
Neera chimed in, âI believe the staff of the hospitalâs pharmacy is involved. After all, if they hadnât dispensed the wrong medication, how could the patient have gotten it?â
After a moment of contemplation, Isabella said, âI think I should go to the hospital first.â
âDidnât you say someone was watching you? Alvin will be on guard against you if you go now, and you might not be able to find out anything.â
âNo worries, Iâll figure something else out. Thereâs something else I need to ask of you. If my grandfather is rescued, I need your help to deal with his condition.â
Seeing how determined her friend was, Neera decided not to stand in her way any longer.
âAll right, stop worrying about your grandfather. Let me handle it.â
