Chapter 852 We Didnât Deserve It Following that, Alfonso exited the room.
As soon as he walked out the door, Asher received a phone call from his underling in Kingsview.
âMr. Asher, that Garcias was taken away from us last night! And the police just raided our headquarters in Kingsview!â
Asher abruptly stood up after hearing the devastating news.
âWhat did you say?â he yelled. âWhat happened? Give me the rundown!â
The subordinate babbled incoherently as he reported.
As Asher listened, his skin darkened. Angrily, he demanded, âWhere were they taken? Who did it?
You should at least be aware of this, right?
The subordinate swallowed nervously. He began to perspire heavily and said, âI donât knowâ¦â
âYou donât know? âYou donât know about something this important?â
âMost of our men have been detained,â the underling pleaded, his voice shaking with fear.
âThose who survived have gone underground. We cannot investigate this further at this time.
Please donât be upset with me. Weâll investigate once the situation has calmed down.â
âYou want me to wait?â Asher demanded indignantly. âFor what? If they can kidnap them and force the police to storm our base, they must command formidable forces. Itâs now or never; if we donât find them now, we never will.â
He abruptly hung up the phone and kicked the coffee table in frustration, deciding there was no point in continuing the conversation.
âWhat a piece of shit! Bunch of trash!â
When Emre saw what was happening, he dodged the coffee table and asked, âMr. Asher, what happened?â
Asher explained glumly.
Emre was truly taken aback. He reflected, âI doubt there are many people ] Kingsview who are capable of doing this. If we investigate, we might find some leads.â
Asherâs eyes narrowed with a murderous look in them. A stern voice came from his lips as he warned, âWhoever dares to attack us is courting death.â
At this very moment, in a rural Kingsviewâs bungalow.
Gladeon and Marnie were gradually awoken.
They were both startled to find themselves in an unfamiliar setting.
âGladeon, where are we?â
Marnie tightened her grip on her husbandâs arm. She was terrified.
She appeared disheveled after being confined to the black market basement for several days.
Although he was in a similar state to her, Gladeon was much more composed.
After taking a look around, he concluded, âThis should be a safe house arranged by the people who saved us yesterday. It seems harmless enough.
Marnieâs fear was evident when he brought up what had happened the night before.
âWho were those people? Why did they save us? Is this a trap?â
She was a nervous wreck who invariably imagined the worst.
Gladeon cast a glance her way. He was about to comfort her when the door swung open.
They were the blackâclad security guards who stood outside. They heard the commotion and went to get them some food.
The couple instinctively kept a wary eye on them.
The guards didnât seem to mind. They coldly set the tray down on the coffee table and said, âSince youâre awake, eat your food.â
The two looked intimidating. Marnieâs fear was palpable, but Gladeon wasnât quite as frightened.
He recalled that they were the ones who rescued them from the basement of the black market the night before. They obviously werenât bad guys since they brought them food.
When he realized this, he yanked Marnie out of bed and thanked them.
âThank you for rescuing us last night. If you donât, we donât know how long weâll be locked in that dark place. But, we donât know who you are,â
The guards remained indifferent.
Enough of that. You donât have to thank us. Our Mistress was the one who actively sought to rescue you. If she doesnât, we wonât bother getting involved in this mess.â
The couple was perplexed.
âMay I inquire as to who your Mistressâ¦â
In a sneering voice, one of the guards replied, âOf course, sheâs Mr. Beauvortâs beloved wife, Neera!
Surely you must be familiar with her.â
Neera?
The two were taken aback. They never expected Neera to be their savior.
The guards paid no attention and quickly exited.
Marnie sat on the bed, her eyes dazed and disoriented.
âI didnât expect⦠in the end, she is the one who saved us,â she murmured.
The effect was bittersweet for Gladcon.
They had previously devoted their lives to their son, only to be pawned off by that ungrateful son to a perilous situation in which they nearly lost their lives. It was their own granddaughter, whom they had always disregarded and devalued, who ultimately came to their rescue. In what they deserve this?
For a long time, the two were deafeningly quiet.
Finally, nothing remained but intense guilt and remorse. They should not have mistreated Neera in the past.
