Chapter 587 Guarding Her
When Neera heard that Jean had arrived, she couldnât help but be surprised. She set aside her work and hurriedly left the laboratory.
A tall, composed figure of a man stood quietly just outside the door.
âWhy are you here?â She asked, laughter of surprise in her voice, a softness she hadnât realized crept into her
tone.
Jean cast a glance at her, and there was a faint hint of deep blue in his eyes.
âIâve come to take you home,â he said quietly.
The word âtakeâ tickled Neeraâs sense of humor, and she couldnât help but chuckle.
She pointed to the clock on the wall. âMy set of data will be ready soon. Can you wait for me a little longer?â
Jean raised an eyebrow. âHow long?â
âGive me ten minutes, Iâll finish recording,â she assured him.
Reluctantly, Jean agreed, and he waited patiently.
Almost ten minutes later, Neera changed her clothes and came out. Seeing his patient figure waiting for her,
her heart warmed.
âLetâs go home.â
âYeah.â
The two walked side by side and got into the car, where Jeanâs demeanor suddenly shifted.
âYou always say I donât take care of my body, but I think itâs you who doesnât take your health seriously.â
His expression was stern, his voice slightly deeper, and there was no hint of playfulness.
As Neera gazed into his deep black eyes, she noticed that he was mad.
Just because weâve started dating, and I should take better care of myself? Neera blinked, but there was no hint of dissatisfaction in her tone.
The feeling of someone caring for her was heartwarming, so much so that her heart melted, and she couldnât help but smile.
âI told you last night that these reagents are crucial in the early stages of the project. I need to invest a lot of effort now, but it wonât be this hectic later on. Donât be upset, okay?â She explained gently, trying to be reassuring.
In a coaxing gesture, she even took the initiative to hold his hand and give it a playful shake.
Jean, his thin lips slightly pursed, couldnât resist her charm and reluctantly forgave her.
âIâll only allow you to do it this time, you shouldnât let this happen again,â he warned.
Neera willingly smiled and readily agreed, âOkay!â
Jean started the car and asked, âAre we going home right away?â
âAuntie Zuniga has already taken the children to school. Iâll take you out for breakfast first.â
After filling their stomachs, Jean drove her back home.
âGet some rest,â he suggested.
âAlright.â Neera released his hand, âWhat about you?â
Jean raised an eyebrow and looked at her seriously. âIâm here to keep an eye on you, to ensure you donât overwork.â
âPftâ¦â Neera couldnât help but burst into laughter.
However, she was genuinely tired, so she let him go, took a shower, and fell into a deep sleep.
This time, she slept until the afternoon.
When she woke up, the sun was streaming in perfectly.
Jean was still there, seated on the sofa with the light behind him, his profile both strong and gentle.
Neeraâs eyes gradually cleared, and when she saw him, she couldnât help but smile.
Unexpectedly, he never left her side, guarding her.
Jean asked lan to bring some documents, and he was focused on reading when he heard her voice.
He looked up at her, setting aside his work.
âAre you awake? Take it easy and relax for a while. Iâll have Auntie Zuniga warm up some food.â
With those words, he stood up and left the room.
Neera glanced at his retreating figure until he disappeared, then buried her face in the blanket and giggled softly.
Jean watched her finish her meal, feeling somewhat satisfied.
âAre you resting at home today, or are you going to the research center?â
Neera hesitated.
Seeing her hesitation, Jeanâs gentle demeanor turned serious in an instant and furrowed his brows.
âAre you planning to pull an all-nighter tonight? You used to do that often for your research, didnât you?â
âWell, something like thatâ¦â
Sensing his concern, Neera quickly reassured him, âBut donât worry, I promise not to stay up all night tonight and come home early, okay?â
Jeanâs expression softened slightly.
Afterward, he drove her back to the research center before heading to his company.
âNeera, I heard from Luigi that you didnât go back until after nine this morning. How much rest did you get? Why are you here so early?â Osbert complained upon seeing her.
Neera smiled and replied, âYouâre all working hard, so how can I stay behind? Donât worry, Iâve had some rest.â
She glanced around and noticed that everyone else was present.
However, only Thora was missing.
âWhy isnât she here?â Neera asked casually.
Osbert knew who she was referring to, curled his lips, and shrugged.
âI donât know either. I knocked on her door when I left, but she didnât answer. Iâm not sure if sheâs still sleeping or if sheâs inside.â
A flicker of annoyance crossed Neeraâs eyes, and she made a call.
However, after calling twice, there was no response.
In the end, she didnât want to waste any more time on that woman.
âDonât wait for her, letâs continue.â
Thora deliberately chose not to show up.
She had no intention of following Neeraâs work ethic, which involved sacrificing her well-being for research.
She hadnât slept for half the night the previous day, and she was already exhausted.
Upon waking up, she had no desire to face Neera.
After a refreshing sleep, she felt relaxed and went out for a leisurely shopping spree.â
In the evening, having made a few satisfying purchases, she found a high-end restaurant and treated herself to a delicious meal.
Meanwhile, Jean finished work and was on his way home when he received a call from Fabio.
âJean, itâs been a while since we sat down together. Are you free this evening? Letâs have dinner.â
Jean agreed because he thought that Fabio had something important to discuss.
