After concluding the examination, Neera remarked, âIt appears the antidote has done its job. Any traces left in your system have been eradicated. However, the surgery took a toll on you; the blood loss weakened you considerably. Itâll take a long time for you to recover to your original health.â
She retrieved a white vial from the medicine box.
âIâve prepared this, especially for you. Itâs useful for restoring or gan function. Consume one pill after every meal, three times daily. You will fully recover after a month.â
Dandy glanced at the vial. She sneered and mocked in a strange tone, âWhat exactly is this? Thereâs no label, no list of components. Can we trust it? Is it some kind of concoction? Given Wrennâs fragile state, the last thing she
needs is more trouble.â
Everyone present grasped Dandyâs insinuation.
Neera finally shifted her gaze to her, but her expression was very cold. She countered, âDidnât you hear what I just said? I developed this medicine myself. Whatâs wrong? What are you worried about?â
Dandy snorted coldly and challenged Neera, âOf course I am! This concerns her life. How can we allow her to ingest something of uncertain origin? If anything happens to her, can you bear the responsibility?â
âEvery doctor is responsible for their patients, myself included,â Neera retorted evenly, a trace of irony in her voice.
âMrs. Marks, itâs best if you hold back your opinions on subjects youâre unfamiliar with. All youâve showcased is your lack of knowledge. I am a professional. Itâs not your place to interfere with how I prescribe medication to my patients.
âMoreover, donât you think your skepticism is pointless? If I have ill intentions, wouldnât it have been simpler to let Joannaâs scheme take its course. Thereâs no need for me to go through all these troubles.
Are you a fool, or do you think so little of me?â
Her remarks were harsh and it silenced Dandy.
Dandyâs demeanor darkened and berated, âYouâ¦who are calling me a fool? Iâm your elder, right?
Shouldnât you show me some respect?â
Neera replied with a hint of disdain, âI believe Iâve been respectful. You, on the other hand, hurled malicious accusations without any proof. Youâre the one that lacks manners.â
Dandy was at a loss for words, a mix of frustration and anger evident on her face.
Kyra didnât appreciate seeing her mother being reprimanded.
Just as she was about to interfere, Jean spoke up.
He said, âMrs. Marks, while I understand your concerns for my mother, let me make something clear!
Neera is my wife. Your doubts are unnecessary, and I expect you wonât express them again.â
His voice carried a note of displeasure. It was evident where his loyalty lay.
Nobody should question my wife.
Embarrassed, Dandyâs complexion had turned ghastly pale.
Trying to ease the tension, Kyra said, âMom didnât mean any harm. Please donât misinterpret her concern. Sheâs just worried about Aunt Wrennâs well-being.â
She then diverted her gaze to Neera and softly mediated, âMs. Garcia, my mom, is blunt due to her worries. Please donât take her words to heart.â
Neera was not bothered to respond. She simply placed the medicine on the bedside table.
âIf you trust me, follow my directions. If not, thatâs your choice. Once youâre home, try to stay in bed as much as possible. Move your muscles and joints a little every day, but avoid strenuous exercise! Have a nutritious diet to regain your strength. With time, and youâll fully recover.â
After she gave the doctorâs order, she calmly added, âIf thereâs nothing else, I should get going now.â
Jean immediately approached her and said, âIâll walk
you out.â
Neera didnât object. The pair left the hospital ward side by side.
When they were at the door, Frederic suddenly called out to Neera.
âNeera⦠We owe you a great deal for this. Youâve worked hard, make sure you get some rest when you get home.â
